Avistar Administration is now following The Typepad Team

Actually, two colleagues at Avistar, which makes desktop videoconferencing software, recently conducted videoconferences while on American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic flights, using in-flight Wi-Fi. While I don't know if they tried it in-flight, Avistar does let users place multi-party videoconference calls.

The questions in this post are great, and should be very helpful to organizations evaluating videoconferencing. One question you didn't address is cost. Room size systems can cost $300,000 or more to install, and a number of research analysts estimate that the economy is accelerating demand for low-cost desktop systems vs costly telepresence systems. Avistar has an interesting promotion for organizations interested in trying out desktop videoconferencing, 1,000 Hours of Value.
