Sorry that you are just finding out, Yvonne, but really appreciate your kind words about Murry...I will try to pass them on to his wife.

Absolutely, Artoniworld! I treasure the responses I get from people that take my work to another place that I never imagined...That happens a lot, too! Thanks for your insight!

Sharon, the answer is different for every artist-just as the art varies...I think that everyone should be able to explain what they are doing...remember it only needs to be from your perspective. Sometimes people may not be satisfied with your answer, but that's not your issue. My intuition plays a role in making my art...I figure out what it means during the process of working, and afterwards.

Absolutely, Noreen, unless an artist is intending to create a forgery! That's a whole other story! Thanks for adding your voice!

Hey Jeff: Why did Deidra change careers? Anyway, most of the artists I know teach some place. Many have other streams of income, including lecturing, writing, curating - even the ones we consider monetarily successful such as Dawoud Bey, Theastor Gates, Deborah Willis and Kerry James Marshall, Nick Cave and others teach, write, etc. Always great to get your input my friend!

Thanks much, Lucille...Your insights are always appreciated. I hope to encourage people to understand that the richness artists share should be paid for, for two reasons: 1. art is a commodity like a purse or a chair, though probably one-of-a-kind and not mass produced. 2. "Artist" is a job that we need to derive income from so we can continue on our creative paths. I really appreciate your contributions on these topics. You are a gift, Lucille!

Thanks for commenting, Dominic! I started writing just to figure out what I was thinking! I encourage my students to write... And yes, writing is an art if one writes atfully!
