Mark spent today building a new shelf for our bedroom. I moved the Longaberger bakers rack, that was near my side of the bed, to the shop and that left an empty spot and a lot of stuff on the floor. Mark stopped at Target to pick up a new shelf for me and then put it together so that I could get myself a... Continue reading

Grateful for the generosity of our school community and for the determination of our 2nd graders to make a difference this Thanksgiving by sponsoring a food drive for the local foodbank. After listening to Uncle Willie and the Soup Kitchen, the students felt compelled to help. Mindfulness of others is our focus this year and I am so grateful for a community that stepped up... Bright white sheets and a freshly made bed, Sunday evening I am grateful for both! Staying home all day on a Sunday is one of my favorite things. It gives me the opportunity to catch up on my "home" chores which includes laundry and a bit or organizational work. Usually it is also the day when I catch up with school work although that did... Grateful for the gift of flowers this late in the fall and a little late start on a Saturday which gave me time to walk around the yard and take a few photos. Usually Saturday is an early "demo day" but this Saturday was a little later start and I was grateful for the little bit of extra sleep! Continue reading

This tree makes me smile. I planted this tree in the yard in the fall of 2007 in the hopes that one day it would shade the corner of the house. Mission Accomplished! Not only that, the color it produces is amazing. Grateful for the beauty of fall and the stark contrast of a leaf-losing tree against a gorgeous autumn sky. Wonderful. Continue reading

No work on Friday meant that I could play on Thursday evening. So grateful for the opportunity to spend an evening playing with paper. It has been so long since I had the chance to do something creative that didn't involve quilting. So happy I decided to take a chance and register for the class. I had such fun even though I attended solo. This... Continue reading

So very grateful for the opportunity to travel, especially this past summer. We made a trip out to Wyoming to visit Mark's brother and sister-in-law at their cabin. Such a wonderful respite from our day to day responsibilities. We hiked, we visited museums, we traveled to National Parks and just celebrated the opportunity to be together in this wonderful place. It was a great trip,... Continue reading

Grateful for the opportunity to vote for a new governor, it has been a very long 8 years. Also grateful for a much better school day. Sometimes things just seem to click! Finally, new eyeglasses, so very grateful! Today has been a real blessing and I get to end my evening with the sound of rain outside my bedroom window. Wonderful! Continue reading

Grateful for this evening, truly needed to be done with the work day about 2 hours after it started. On my way back from Target I captured a glimpse of the waning full moon, Beaver Moon, and I decided that it is absolutely the best representation of how grateful I am that it is evening and really close to bedtime! Grateful today for The Village Quilter. I start my Saturdays early with Demo Day at 9:30. It is such a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by so many creative women. We laugh, share and celebrate each other and our community. I can think of no better place to spend my time! Continue reading

T Tonight I had the opportunity to play with fabric and boy was it the perfect way to spend this Friday evening after a very stressful week at school. Tonight was UFO night and I had the help of several Bonnie Hunter Mystery veterans! So much fun! So grateful that I have The Village Quilter and the wonderful women that I work and play with... Grateful today for Bonnie Hunter's annual mystery quilt and the opportunity to sew along. Perhaps this will be the year I actually finish? Well, maybe not, but it is such a fun process to select fabric for a new project. I love seeing the progress posted by other quilters and I especially love seeing the work done by our customers. The first clue arrives on... Continue reading

Trying to get back to blogging after having been away for far to long. I must admit that I was completely unaware of how drained I was after the passing of my dear friend, Bunkey. Each time I have tried to sit down to post, I get the feeling that everything is just so, unimportant. Now that's not true and I know it, but I... Continue reading

Our adventures in July took us to a little town in western Pennsylvania, Ohiopyle. We enjoyed the slower pace and the beautiful surroundings. We camped one night in Ohiopyle State Park after being rained out our first night. It is no fun setting up a campsite, especially a walk in site that takes you up a steep hill, inthe pouring rain. While it rained our... Continue reading

Summer trips, for me, are usually a cross between exploring a new area (Gettysburg) and seeing something that I have always wanted to see. This trip was precisely that. I have always been intrigued by Falling Water and the opportunity to camp in an area where we had never been was an absolute plus. As a child I was blessed to spend a part of... Continue reading

just for a bit. We left home on Sunday, late morning and arrived in Gettysburg not long after lunch. Our bed and breakfast, The Brafferton Inn, is the oldest building in Gettysburg. The home was built in the late 1700’s by the Codori family. When I selected our room I had no idea that I was selecting the oldest master bedroom in Gettysburg. It was... Continue reading

Summer, like so many things in my life, is defined by what’s happening in the shop. June 21st, the official start of summer, also denotes the beginning of the Row x Row Experience. Row x Row is an international quilters’ shop hop. Quilt shops around the world register to be a part of the Experience. This year we were a little better prepared for the... Continue reading

Bunkey turned 60 on April 3rd, 2017. When she was diagnosed with pancreatic neuro-endocrine cancer in the spring of 2011, we were told she would have 20 years. She passed away, peacefully, on June 11th. I am a stream of consciousness writer. I do not edit well and punctuation, especially the correct use of the comma, escapes me. As a result, I have stayed quiet.... Continue reading

This video, which I haven’t seen in several years, is weighing heavy on my mind these days. My dear friend Bunkey, who has been battling cancer since 2011, is losing her battle. Hospice has given her a few weeks to live, but knowing Bunkey, as I do, she will manage the end of her life on her terms. She and I met relatively late in... Continue reading

Today at school, well before 9:10, I had delt with at least two eight year old meltdowns. I am convinced that children experience loss on a level we cannot fathom. They are resilient, in the long run, but they truly have not experienced enough life to deal with death. They cannot understand why someone they love needs to be taken from them and the best... Seriously difficult to get to work on time. I am so not a morning person. Thursday with only two more school days this week to get through. Fortunately, on this Thursday, there was a faculty meeting scheduled so I would only be working one job. As the week moves on, I get more and more tired. Trying to arrive on time to work. Unfortunately, 8:09... Continue reading

Sleeping late midweek was a real treat. I woke up feeling refreshed and relatively pain free. A bonus half a personal day allowed me to spend a late night out with the kiddos without having to worry about not getting enough sleep. There was lunch at home then a quick trip to school. There was a quick trip to the shop. Wednesday is the first... Continue reading

Tuesday’s story seems to focus on the evening and spending quality time with these two. The Jason and Jessica show had our server in tears of laughter. “I have never had as much fun waiting on any table.” We laughed, giggled and celebrated our very special family. Continue reading
