Our adventures in July took us to a little town in western Pennsylvania, Ohiopyle. We enjoyed the slower pace and the beautiful surroundings. We camped one night in Ohiopyle State Park after being rained out our first night. It is no fun setting up a campsite, especially a walk in site that takes you up a steep hill, inthe pouring rain. While it rained our... Continue reading

Summer trips, for me, are usually a cross between exploring a new area (Gettysburg) and seeing something that I have always wanted to see. This trip was precisely that. I have always been intrigued by Falling Water and the opportunity to camp in an area where we had never been was an absolute plus. As a child I was blessed to spend a part of... Continue reading

just for a bit. We left home on Sunday, late morning and arrived in Gettysburg not long after lunch. Our bed and breakfast, The Brafferton Inn, is the oldest building in Gettysburg. The home was built in the late 1700’s by the Codori family. When I selected our room I had no idea that I was selecting the oldest master bedroom in Gettysburg. It was... Continue reading

Summer, like so many things in my life, is defined by what’s happening in the shop. June 21st, the official start of summer, also denotes the beginning of the Row x Row Experience. Row x Row is an international quilters’ shop hop. Quilt shops around the world register to be a part of the Experience. This year we were a little better prepared for the... Continue reading

Bunkey turned 60 on April 3rd, 2017. When she was diagnosed with pancreatic neuro-endocrine cancer in the spring of 2011, we were told she would have 20 years. She passed away, peacefully, on June 11th. I am a stream of consciousness writer. I do not edit well and punctuation, especially the correct use of the comma, escapes me. As a result, I have stayed quiet.... Continue reading

This video, which I haven’t seen in several years, is weighing heavy on my mind these days. My dear friend Bunkey, who has been battling cancer since 2011, is losing her battle. Hospice has given her a few weeks to live, but knowing Bunkey, as I do, she will manage the end of her life on her terms. She and I met relatively late in... Continue reading

Today at school, well before 9:10, I had delt with at least two eight year old meltdowns. I am convinced that children experience loss on a level we cannot fathom. They are resilient, in the long run, but they truly have not experienced enough life to deal with death. They cannot understand why someone they love needs to be taken from them and the best... Seriously difficult to get to work on time. I am so not a morning person. Thursday with only two more school days this week to get through. Fortunately, on this Thursday, there was a faculty meeting scheduled so I would only be working one job. As the week moves on, I get more and more tired. Trying to arrive on time to work. Unfortunately, 8:09... Continue reading

Sleeping late midweek was a real treat. I woke up feeling refreshed and relatively pain free. A bonus half a personal day allowed me to spend a late night out with the kiddos without having to worry about not getting enough sleep. There was lunch at home then a quick trip to school. There was a quick trip to the shop. Wednesday is the first... Continue reading

Tuesday’s story seems to focus on the evening and spending quality time with these two. The Jason and Jessica show had our server in tears of laughter. “I have never had as much fun waiting on any table.” We laughed, giggled and celebrated our very special family. Continue reading

Monday mornings are so very difficult. My alarm is set for 6:45 but this bright Monday morning I finally got out of bed at 7:24. Not bad for a night person. A new regimen in the evening with my medication and I am hoping that there will be some relief in the next couple of days. Before I know it I am late out the... Continue reading

Really excited to take part in Week in the Life yet again. Welcome to my week and my life. I am a Sunday starter, if I were to try and begin on Monday, I would feel that it wasn’t quite right. I take my Sundays as a way to regroup and manage my week. I generally do not go into the quilt shop on Sundays.... Continue reading

Thirty years ago this beauty joined our family and I will be forever grateful that I get to call her my daughter and my friend. Jessica you are one of my favorite travel companions, one of my closest friends and one of the nicest people I know. I am so proud of the woman you have become. I am so happy that we were able... Seriously, isn’t he just the cutest? Jason, I am so very proud of you. You have become a very kind and principled young man. Today I celebrate you. Not only who you are now, but who you will become on your journey. I am just a bit sorry that we were not able to spend this day together although I know we will catch up... Continue reading

Bunkey turned 60 just a week ago. As I sit here this evening I am amazed at her resilience. No one I know would handle all that she has handled in quite the way she has handled it. This latest round of chemo is taking its toll on my dear friend. She works hard to manage the syptoms without taking any steps back. Each day... Continue reading

Saturday, April 1st, we celebrated our first anniversary at the shop. What a great day we had! So many wonderful customers, who are now friends, joined us for a great day! Looking back, I cannot believe that we have come as far as we have. Seriously, we now have very little room to move in the shop. Last year we were busy looking for creative... Continue reading

Home, that’s where you will find me on any given Sunday. But this Sunday, a couple of weeks ago, Mark and I ventured into Fishtown to visit with Jess. Actually we traveled over to Northern Liberties for brunch at Heritage, one of the places where Jess is currently working. We had a wonderful time catching up with Jess before her adventure to New Orleans for... Continue reading

Connect is the word that I have chosen to guide me through the current year. On this perfectly wonderful spring like day just a week ago, Mark and I ventured outside to forge a connection with nature. It was a short walk, just out to Three Pond and back, but it was just what we needed. Since we have opened the shop we have become... Continue reading

Giddy, there is no other word to describe the way we felt when the smart board was installed. Seriously, it has been a long time coming. Now I have to learn to make use of it! Fortunately I have a student teacher this semester and I believe he will help me through the learning curve. The biggest challenge we had this week was arranging the... Continue reading

Sometimes I feel like my life is just circling in around me. When I begin to feel overwhelmed by body just shuts down and I spend a great deal of time being unproductive. After being sick for a fair amount of our winter break Mark and I decided we needed to get a better handle on some things. One of those things being food shopping... Continue reading

Taking down Christmas makes just as much of a mess as putting up Christmas. I am not really good at either and I absolutely hate the mess. Having said that, I can do a very good job of ignoring the mess if I have to! Yesterday I did just that. After starting my Sunday chores of laundry and changing the sheets, I delved right into... Posting for my December Daily even though I am clearly done with December! Why, because I sometimes use this space, here on my blog, to keep track of those stories that best describe my life at any given moment. That was so very true of my life in December. I had no time to decorate at home, but in the shop I was able to... Continue reading

There are times when I attempt to accomplish more than I am capable of. It happens. I feel it usually around September or October and then BAM! My body comes to a screeching hault. I experienced just that knock down, drag out, winner take all kind of moment just about a year ago. Being me, I ignored it and believed that I could work through... Continue reading

Trying to make some sense of the fabrics I bought to make holiday gifts. In hindsight, I could have saved myself some time just by putting the fabric right in a box. Today I know, there will be no sewing for this holiday. I had every good intention, but I have given into fatigue by napping nearly every day. No regrets, no preconceived notion of... Mark’s writing group had their Christmas Party at a local restaurant that we had not yet visited. I am usually hesitant to commit to an event on a school evening but this was just what we needed. The food was delicious and we spent the best part of the evening getting to know some really awesome people. I was so happy we decided to hang... Continue reading
