Santa Claus arrived in Mt. Holly this evening just in time to light the Christmas Tree! The evening was truly magical. At the shop we had our first Friday of the month UFO night so the classroom was full. I was looking forward to spending some quality time with our UFO group. I even planned on sewing! In the end my obligation to the evening... Continue reading

Each December 1st we receive a very special gift from Mark’s sister Karen and her husband Chuck. It is one of my very favorite parts of early December. I am being flexible in my expectations for the holiday this year. For the first time in many years, I have not started to decorate for the holidays and I am okay with that! Now that I... Grateful for these two. I cannot count my blessings without counting these two among my greatest. They have given me so much in terms of experiences, laughter, kindness, love and support. For me, the best thing about these two is the way they love and support each other. Thankful for them everyday! Love them to pieces! Continue reading

Tonight I am grateful for the opportunity to get a haircut with my hubby and then home for an early evening. Leftovers for dinner and into jammies early. It truly feels like a dream come true! I will catch up with my posts for my earlier days but tonight - it’s time for bed! Continue reading

Grateful for people that find a need and then make a plan to fill it. I don’t have that ability. I am happy to find charities that serve and support them. Distributing Dignity is just one of those charities. The bags you see above are the donations I was able to collect at the shop. If you are interested in supporting women from all walks... Grateful for the opportunity to experience a dream come true! I have always wanted to own a quilt shop. Each day I head to the store I realize how fortunate I am to be living my dream. Seriously, I get to play with fabric! I work with wonderful women who inspire me on a regular basis. The have remarkable integrity and truly care about everyone... Continue reading

Grateful for the changing seasons and the beautiful fall sunshine. Our birch tree in the front of the house is among the first trees to lose its leaves in the fall. That works for me because the tree in the background holds onto its leaves for a few more weeks. It is such a blessing to lay in bed and see the beautiful foliage right... Continue reading

Grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dream of owning a quilt shop. For me, this includes the opportunity to travel to Quilt Market in Houston to learn, see and grow as a store owner, a quilter and someone who is committed to inspiring others to find their creative niche. I have experienced so much since Quilt Market 2015 and I am so grateful. Related... Continue reading

Posting a day late. Yesterday, as I was leaving the house for work, I took a nasty spill on the sidewalk leading to our front door. I was home for the day and a trip to the doctor confirmed a concussion. I am so grateful for my colleagues at work who were able to pull together lessons for my class and absolutely made sure that... Today as I was walking through Target I happened across this large fellow. Instantly several “ninja turtle related” memories popped into mind. I remember Jason and Jessica dancing to Vanilla Ice when we saw the first Ninja Turtle movie in the theater. I also remember an afternoon at MGM Studios in Florida that included tears because Donatello or Leonardo didn’t hang back for a photo... Continue reading

October has mostly come and gone with very little posting. I have decided that at my age I cannot live an exciting action filled life and write about it also, I get too tired! Back on October 15th, after a busy morning at the shop, I rode the train into Philly to volunteer at Bloktoberfest. This event has been a pet project of Jason’s for... Continue reading

October arrived while we were away for a quick weekend. The October daisies, which usually bloom at the end of September, waited until I was gone. This is the first year that they have bloomed in October, seriously! We have been really busy this month and I cannot imagine why. The school year started rather calmly and the shop is into a very nice rhythm.... Continue reading

Bunkey has entered a new phase of her treatment brought on by an agressive form of her cancer. We have been extremely worried as she started a round of chemo a week ago that is extremely rough on the body. It is a 4 day treatment every other week. Last week was difficult for my dear friend. As she undergoes treatment, I keep my distance.... Continue reading

Quiet critters are in production as I post this blog. I am hopeful that the appearance of a cute fuzzy critter on my students’ desks may encourage them to be a little quieter than they are currently. My class is nearly full with 21 second graders and they love to talk! It’s not that talking is bad, not at all. It does get in the... Continue reading

Lately, we have been burning the candle at both ends. Opening and managing the quilt shop has added quite a bit of responsibility to our plates. It is nice every now and then to spend a quiet evening together enjoying what we love. We are lucky to live in an area where we have the opportunity to enjoy high quality, live theatre in several venues. Continue reading

I absolutely love this time of year! My Sundays are much more productive when I am listening to football from the tv upstairs. Although, I really do believe that I went into this weekend much stronger than I have in a long time. Yesterday we made such great progress in the shop and today, lesson plans first and then a few school administrative things before... Continue reading

Kaffe Fassett has always been one of my favorite fabric designers. I love the way he mixes colors and patterns, much the way nature seems to get away with certain combinations. The quilts in this book are exquisite and inspirational. On September 10th at The Village Quilter we will be celebrating a Day in Italy. In addition to eating Italian food and listening to Italian... This summer was way too short as far as I’m concerned. As I sit here preparing to head into school tomorrow, I can’t help but think that summer just flew by too fast. Both Mark and I knew that this summer would challenge us in ways we couldn’t imagine; we weren’t wrong. There were a few things that I wanted to be sure we did... Continue reading

I am definitely a Starbucks mug addict. I have quite a few plus several different incarnations. My favorites would have to be the architecture series. My first purchase was in Las Vegas and I found the tree ornament size of that particular mug. Then, I couldn’t find that mug any longer so I switched to purchasing the “city” mugs. I was on a pretty good... Continue reading

Generally the mall is the last place you will find me, ever, but Wednesday I needed something and I had already been to Target so I thought I would give Macy’s a try. I did find what I was looking for, but then I also found this t-shirt. It immediately brought me back to a Christmas when Jason was 2 or 3. All he wanted... Continue reading

Trying to move quicker than the incoming storm, Mark and I managed to do some yardwork on Monday. Our yard has really suffered neglect with us opening the shop this past spring. A quick mow and once over with the trimmer seemed to make a great deal of difference in the appearance of the yard. Not to mention the weeding, I think we filled 6... Continue reading

Saturday afternoon, after closing the shop for the day, Mark and I headed over to the Burlington County Farm Fair. The last time I experienced a fair like this was the summer Mark and I drove cross country. It turned out that his hometown of Olney was having their fair during our visit. As it turns out, this farm fair was much larger in scope... Continue reading

Don’t ask me how I ended up with this book, I really couldn’t tell you. But, it was next in the pile so I picked it up and started reading. Before I knew it, I had reached the end. I do that. I have a hard time reading novels because once I become engaged, I have a hard time putting the book down. Even books... Continue reading
