Giddy, there is no other word to describe the way we felt when the smart board was installed. Seriously, it has been a long time coming. Now I have to learn to make use of it! Fortunately I have a student teacher this semester and I believe he will help me through the learning curve. The biggest challenge we had this week was arranging the... Continue reading

Sometimes I feel like my life is just circling in around me. When I begin to feel overwhelmed by body just shuts down and I spend a great deal of time being unproductive. After being sick for a fair amount of our winter break Mark and I decided we needed to get a better handle on some things. One of those things being food shopping... Continue reading

Taking down Christmas makes just as much of a mess as putting up Christmas. I am not really good at either and I absolutely hate the mess. Having said that, I can do a very good job of ignoring the mess if I have to! Yesterday I did just that. After starting my Sunday chores of laundry and changing the sheets, I delved right into... Posting for my December Daily even though I am clearly done with December! Why, because I sometimes use this space, here on my blog, to keep track of those stories that best describe my life at any given moment. That was so very true of my life in December. I had no time to decorate at home, but in the shop I was able to... Continue reading

There are times when I attempt to accomplish more than I am capable of. It happens. I feel it usually around September or October and then BAM! My body comes to a screeching hault. I experienced just that knock down, drag out, winner take all kind of moment just about a year ago. Being me, I ignored it and believed that I could work through... Continue reading

Trying to make some sense of the fabrics I bought to make holiday gifts. In hindsight, I could have saved myself some time just by putting the fabric right in a box. Today I know, there will be no sewing for this holiday. I had every good intention, but I have given into fatigue by napping nearly every day. No regrets, no preconceived notion of... Mark’s writing group had their Christmas Party at a local restaurant that we had not yet visited. I am usually hesitant to commit to an event on a school evening but this was just what we needed. The food was delicious and we spent the best part of the evening getting to know some really awesome people. I was so happy we decided to hang... Continue reading

Jessica’s first Christmas, 1987, and Jason’s third Christmas. Every year as I prepare to decorate the house, I am bombarded by memories of earlier Christmas’ spent with my children. I hold onto momentos as I hold onto memories that warm my heart. Of course, Jason and Jessica are now fully grown and they would probably not remember much from this day. But I remember much!... Christmas music, one of my most favorite things about the season. Earlier this month we took my mom to see Manheim Steamroller for her birthday, of course I enjoyed it also! I have a cd container filled completely with Christmas cd’s. Just before Thanksgiving, my cd player broke. Mark volunteered to put all of my Christmas music on our home server so that I can... Balance. A Monday, back in school, reminds me that the best thing I can offer myself this holiday season is balance. My weekdays take me from school to the shop and then home. I realize that the house will get decorated and we will be ready for Christmas all in good time. Continue reading

There are no rewards for constantly being “too” busy. Every year my husband sends off this advent calendar to anyone and everyone he thinks might enjoy its simple message of joy during the holiday season. I have always feigned busy-ness and asked him not to include me. This year he ignored me. In my inbox I received my first ever copy of the Jacqie Lawson... Continue reading

Making room for joy and saying yes whenever possible brought us to the Academy of Music for the Mannheim Steamroller concert. We started the evening with dinner locally and then drove into Philly for the concert. It was such a great evening. So glad I pushed myself to make this evening happen. Continue reading

Santa Claus arrived in Mt. Holly this evening just in time to light the Christmas Tree! The evening was truly magical. At the shop we had our first Friday of the month UFO night so the classroom was full. I was looking forward to spending some quality time with our UFO group. I even planned on sewing! In the end my obligation to the evening... Continue reading

Each December 1st we receive a very special gift from Mark’s sister Karen and her husband Chuck. It is one of my very favorite parts of early December. I am being flexible in my expectations for the holiday this year. For the first time in many years, I have not started to decorate for the holidays and I am okay with that! Now that I... Grateful for these two. I cannot count my blessings without counting these two among my greatest. They have given me so much in terms of experiences, laughter, kindness, love and support. For me, the best thing about these two is the way they love and support each other. Thankful for them everyday! Love them to pieces! Continue reading

Tonight I am grateful for the opportunity to get a haircut with my hubby and then home for an early evening. Leftovers for dinner and into jammies early. It truly feels like a dream come true! I will catch up with my posts for my earlier days but tonight - it’s time for bed! Continue reading

Grateful for people that find a need and then make a plan to fill it. I don’t have that ability. I am happy to find charities that serve and support them. Distributing Dignity is just one of those charities. The bags you see above are the donations I was able to collect at the shop. If you are interested in supporting women from all walks... Grateful for the opportunity to experience a dream come true! I have always wanted to own a quilt shop. Each day I head to the store I realize how fortunate I am to be living my dream. Seriously, I get to play with fabric! I work with wonderful women who inspire me on a regular basis. The have remarkable integrity and truly care about everyone... Continue reading

Grateful for the changing seasons and the beautiful fall sunshine. Our birch tree in the front of the house is among the first trees to lose its leaves in the fall. That works for me because the tree in the background holds onto its leaves for a few more weeks. It is such a blessing to lay in bed and see the beautiful foliage right... Continue reading

Grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dream of owning a quilt shop. For me, this includes the opportunity to travel to Quilt Market in Houston to learn, see and grow as a store owner, a quilter and someone who is committed to inspiring others to find their creative niche. I have experienced so much since Quilt Market 2015 and I am so grateful. Related... Continue reading

Posting a day late. Yesterday, as I was leaving the house for work, I took a nasty spill on the sidewalk leading to our front door. I was home for the day and a trip to the doctor confirmed a concussion. I am so grateful for my colleagues at work who were able to pull together lessons for my class and absolutely made sure that... Today as I was walking through Target I happened across this large fellow. Instantly several “ninja turtle related” memories popped into mind. I remember Jason and Jessica dancing to Vanilla Ice when we saw the first Ninja Turtle movie in the theater. I also remember an afternoon at MGM Studios in Florida that included tears because Donatello or Leonardo didn’t hang back for a photo... Continue reading

October has mostly come and gone with very little posting. I have decided that at my age I cannot live an exciting action filled life and write about it also, I get too tired! Back on October 15th, after a busy morning at the shop, I rode the train into Philly to volunteer at Bloktoberfest. This event has been a pet project of Jason’s for... Continue reading

October arrived while we were away for a quick weekend. The October daisies, which usually bloom at the end of September, waited until I was gone. This is the first year that they have bloomed in October, seriously! We have been really busy this month and I cannot imagine why. The school year started rather calmly and the shop is into a very nice rhythm.... Continue reading

Bunkey has entered a new phase of her treatment brought on by an agressive form of her cancer. We have been extremely worried as she started a round of chemo a week ago that is extremely rough on the body. It is a 4 day treatment every other week. Last week was difficult for my dear friend. As she undergoes treatment, I keep my distance.... Continue reading
