Bunkey has entered a new phase of her treatment brought on by an agressive form of her cancer. We have been extremely worried as she started a round of chemo a week ago that is extremely rough on the body. It is a 4 day treatment every other week. Last week was difficult for my dear friend. As she undergoes treatment, I keep my distance.... Continue reading

Quiet critters are in production as I post this blog. I am hopeful that the appearance of a cute fuzzy critter on my students’ desks may encourage them to be a little quieter than they are currently. My class is nearly full with 21 second graders and they love to talk! It’s not that talking is bad, not at all. It does get in the... Continue reading

Lately, we have been burning the candle at both ends. Opening and managing the quilt shop has added quite a bit of responsibility to our plates. It is nice every now and then to spend a quiet evening together enjoying what we love. We are lucky to live in an area where we have the opportunity to enjoy high quality, live theatre in several venues. Continue reading

I absolutely love this time of year! My Sundays are much more productive when I am listening to football from the tv upstairs. Although, I really do believe that I went into this weekend much stronger than I have in a long time. Yesterday we made such great progress in the shop and today, lesson plans first and then a few school administrative things before... Continue reading

Today was our first full day of school. Just teachers, no students, and I am exhausted. How will I feel once we have students? Oy! Continue reading

Kaffe Fassett has always been one of my favorite fabric designers. I love the way he mixes colors and patterns, much the way nature seems to get away with certain combinations. The quilts in this book are exquisite and inspirational. On September 10th at The Village Quilter we will be celebrating a Day in Italy. In addition to eating Italian food and listening to Italian... This summer was way too short as far as I’m concerned. As I sit here preparing to head into school tomorrow, I can’t help but think that summer just flew by too fast. Both Mark and I knew that this summer would challenge us in ways we couldn’t imagine; we weren’t wrong. There were a few things that I wanted to be sure we did... Continue reading

I am definitely a Starbucks mug addict. I have quite a few plus several different incarnations. My favorites would have to be the architecture series. My first purchase was in Las Vegas and I found the tree ornament size of that particular mug. Then, I couldn’t find that mug any longer so I switched to purchasing the “city” mugs. I was on a pretty good... Continue reading

Generally the mall is the last place you will find me, ever, but Wednesday I needed something and I had already been to Target so I thought I would give Macy’s a try. I did find what I was looking for, but then I also found this t-shirt. It immediately brought me back to a Christmas when Jason was 2 or 3. All he wanted... Continue reading

Trying to move quicker than the incoming storm, Mark and I managed to do some yardwork on Monday. Our yard has really suffered neglect with us opening the shop this past spring. A quick mow and once over with the trimmer seemed to make a great deal of difference in the appearance of the yard. Not to mention the weeding, I think we filled 6... Continue reading

Saturday afternoon, after closing the shop for the day, Mark and I headed over to the Burlington County Farm Fair. The last time I experienced a fair like this was the summer Mark and I drove cross country. It turned out that his hometown of Olney was having their fair during our visit. As it turns out, this farm fair was much larger in scope... Continue reading

Don’t ask me how I ended up with this book, I really couldn’t tell you. But, it was next in the pile so I picked it up and started reading. Before I knew it, I had reached the end. I do that. I have a hard time reading novels because once I become engaged, I have a hard time putting the book down. Even books... Continue reading

Meet Gary. Gary was Jessica’s bike and is used to tooling around Brooklyn. Tomorrow, bright and early, Gary will be embarking on a very long road trip with Mark and Ted. I think I may end up calling this “Ted and Mark’s Excellant Adventure”. From what I understand, Ted has planned this excursion to the beach. Which beach, I am not sure, but any beach... Seriously, this cat is the strangest cat that has ever graced our home. Last evening, after working late, I came home to find him very agitated. Not sure why, but I chose to just go on with what I had planned to do - shower and then finish my latest novel. I was sitting in the dining room, preparing to place an order for the... Reading is something that has always been a huge part of my summer. I remember as a child, curling up in a livingroom chair and reading Nancy Drew Mysteries or the Boxcar Children for hours. Then I would run to the library to return the books I read and take out another 4 books to start the process all over again. These days I still... Continue reading

Each year I set forth a manifesto for my summer. This is the time of year that I need to remind myself about doing what’s right for myself and my family. Health is usually at the top of my list along with relaxing and taking the time to smell the roses. This year, now that we have the shop, I feel it is even more... Continue reading

Wednesday morning Mark and I headed off for an adventure. I love to travel with my hubby because we travel so well together. We had no set agenda and no time frame. I just had two expectations. First, that we would have a late lunch at Millers’ Smorgasbord because Mark had never been there. Second, I wanted to stop by the classroom of The Old... Continue reading

Fridays are a great night to hang out at the shop. The first Friday of the month we have a UFO group that gathers to work on their current projects. This past Friday was no different. We were all gathered in the shop, milling around, taking a peek at new arrivals when we heard the sound of rocks against the window. Hale. I tried to... Continue reading

Actually, no hopping happened today, vertigo and all that. Today I rowed to two quilt shops that are close to my home. I have been curious about what is happening in the quilty world outside of my quilt shop. Also, I am a sucker for Row x Row patterns and... Continue reading

Jessica texted and asked me out on a date. Her intent, to purchase me a decent mascara that would not run all over my face when I had a hot flash. The reality is that I have not been happy with my mascara for quite a while. I have actually stopped wearing mascara just because of the racoon eyes that it gives me! We met... Continue reading

Most of my time this past week has been spent at the shop. Boy has it felt good. I feel like I have a better understanding of things although, what I understand does not hold a candle to all of the wonderful women I work with each day. I have decided that beginning next week I will spend at least a couple of days at... Continue reading

The joke of the evening was that I waited until Beer Week was over. Seriously, it wasn’t a joking matter. I have been suffering with a cold since last Wednesday. I should have noticed the warning signs but I didn’t. It is not in my nature to slow down. The cold, as it were, took the traditional route. Meaning that by Friday, I had no... Continue reading
