I made this picket-fence fancy fold card for something else entirely, but once again I was irresistibly drawn to This Little Piggy. I am just having too much fun to put those naughty little critters back on the shelf and move on to other sets. They are too fun to color and cut out to create all kinds of funny barnyard scenarios. I really went overboard on this one--not only is it a punch art fancy fold card, it's also a pop-up! Using the easy "two snips" trick I share in the November Class of the Month Club (details here!),... Continue reading

I never EVER miss convention, but I did not even try to go to OnStage this year due to health issues, and wouldn't you know... I won a big award and wasn't there to get it! Yesterday the numbers were released and I discovered to my utter shock that I'd been named #38 for overall demonstrator performance in the United States, and ranked 80th total worldwide. WOW!! You could have knocked my socks off. I had NO idea at all. I'm just over here playing with stamps, people! It still surprises me they pay me to do this job. I... Continue reading

For many years, seventeen, in fact, I served in a capacity at church to which I was both uncalled and unqualified. It was beyond stressful--and while I improved at it, I topped out eventually, even though I practiced faithfully, because I just wasn't GOOD at it. The service (piano playing,... Continue reading

if you've followed any of my blogs for any length of time, you've probably noticed I'm pretty chatty. I love words, and I really love how stamping and words go together. We choose this medium to express ourselves. We write directly on or in our creations, and sometimes our creations do the speaking for us, when we can't find the words. Every week I have a little personal blurb in my Stampin' e-News. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's serious. I pretend we're just us, chatting over a mug of something and moments away from heading into the craftroom to laugh... Continue reading

Multi-step stamping? Bring it on! You'll never waste cardstock trying to line things up again. Multiples of the same card? No problem! Set it up once and stamp as many... Continue reading

Oh my, did I have FUN with this card! This is one of the bonus projects in this month's online club. It's a bit of a labor of love, with the fussy cutting and the cute little punch-art picket fence, but I bet you know a friend that would just freak out if she got this! Those naughty little piggies have escaped and are gleefully rolling in the mud. Good thing they're so cute, or they'd be bacon! Get the detailed instructions and full measurements for four This Little Piggy projects plus 2 bonus layouts and an easy pop-up card.... Continue reading

If you haven't yet jumped off the fence into the wonderful world of Stampin' Blends alcohol markers, let me give you another gentle shove... one of the best qualities of alcohol-based inks is their ability to dry almost anywhere. So you can color on all kinds of fun things, like acetate window sheets, clear card boxes, glass, tile, wood, etc. That means you can color your embellishments with them (turn plain buttons pink! Color glitter dots purple! Change ribbon hues to coordinate!) It also means, as I discovered last night, that you can color directly on dry embossing paste backgrounds... Continue reading

Last night I was at loose ends (and in a bad mood because I'm not able to be at the Stampin' Up convention this week! I've made tons of progress on my adrenal fatigue and anxiety disorder, but I still have a ways to go before I can handle crowds and several days of a sun-up to sundown schedule.) Anyway, I happened on a pile of embossing paste backgrounds that I made in advance so I could just grab them whenever. Well, whenever finally arrived, and I got a bunch of these "sweet" cards done yesterday. As always, I was... Continue reading

(written November 2001; published November 2017 in honor of Daniel's 16th birthday) You are not yet born. In silence you squirm and wiggle, long since too cramped to kick and punch anymore. In darkness I think of you, sucking, sleeping. Your father says “good morning” to you in the sleepy... Continue reading

We were on a cleaning kick, spurred by a summer unexpectedly off-track. Canceling our trip to Thailand with just one week to go left us with an awkward, three-week hole in the middle of our summer. We handled it in different ways. For my son, it was three weeks to... Continue reading

I had another "eureka!" moment in the stamp room this week, so here comes another brand new tutorial! I'm on a roll right now--of course, right when I haven't really got the time to be... it's Murphy's Law, I guess! This is a fun technique you can do when your new Stampin' Blends alcohol markers arrive. All you need is 2-3 colors of marker, a piece of clear acetate window sheet, and cardstock. If you don't have any acetate, you can use the throw-away sheet from a set of photopolymer stamps, or a clear envelope. Let's learn something new! My... Continue reading

I'm super excited to share this new photos tutorial with you. I have been messing around in the craft room (emphasis on the MESS) and came up with something cool! This stained glass acetate window card with embossing paste is a lot easier than it looks, so don't be scared to give it a go, because it's a real WOW technique! It's very fitting that I made this card while listening to a podcast on the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona, Spain! Mike and I had the privilege of touring this amazing on-going construction. I will never forget the light... Continue reading

I'm excited to announce the arrival of our new line of alcohol-based markers! I can't believe the gorgeous shading and saturated colors available with these lovely tools. They leave NO lines or streaks, never get muddied, and dry almost instantly. I used to not be very much of a fan of coloring. Markers were too harsh, and watercoloring can be really iffy. But these alcohol blending markers have made it so that I am successful EVERY time I color! You will be seeing a lot of coloring from here on out as I play with these new tools. Some of... I had one of those brief blips of time where I was fussy-cutting all sorts of things... something I normally find pretty tedious! But the large roses from the new Petal Garden paper stack are not difficult to trim out, and they look great layered up against the flat printed papers. Add some Scripture verse stamps from Rose Wonder, sprinkle some pearls around, and these easy, encouraging notecards are all done! The double-sided Petal Garden papers coordinate with Pool Party, Calypso Coral, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive. Here's what you'll need if you want to recreate this look... I promised y'all a tutorial in my last post about my craft fair displays and bestsellers, and here it is! This is a totally cute holder for two hot cocoa packets and a Treat Tube of M&M's or mini marshmallows on the side. I took a picture of each step, so there are a lot of pictures, but don't be intimidated. This is actually a really easy project. To begin, you'll need the following: For my Christmas version, I used Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler cardstock, Old Olive patterned papers from the Merry Little Christmas pack, and the Merry Cafe...
