The Israel Transport Ministry and the Netivei Israel Company announce that because of the risk of sinkholes close to Road no. 90 near Ein Gedi, changes have been made to traveling routes in the area. "Desert Kites" is a nickname to ancient structures first discovered by RAF pilots who flew over the Near East during the 1920's. Over 4,000 kites are currently known between Yemen in the south and Armenia in the north, most of them only through Google Earth images. So far about 1% has been thoroughly surveyed, and less than 30 kites were ever excavated. Continue reading

Israeli police arrested six Palestinians suspected of stealing antiquities from a cave near the Dead Sea, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) said Sunday, according to Israeli media. According to the IAA, the suspects, who are from the village of Seir near Hebron, attempted to steal ancient documents, such as Dead Sea Scrolls. Continue reading
