I read the entire Shopaholic series and found the books hilarious and very entertaining. Rebecca is the EXTREME of everything she does, and I think that's what makes her so funny and endearing. I know a few people who shop almost to the point of addiction, but not quite as much as her. I think the movie was well done, but reading the books will give you more of an appreciation of the character's struggles and how she manages to talk her way out of some very uncomfortable and embarassing situations. I agree with you - these books are for a more mature reader, and there are some important lessons that can be learned about what NOT to do with your finances!

I just finished reading Uglies - interesting book. The book takes place sometime in the future. The modern world as we know it has been replaced with a genetically engineered society. Once you turn 16 you undergo total body cosmetic surgery that turns you into a "perfect" being. Until then everyone is considered "ugly". But there's a price to pay for being "pretty" - you'll need to read the book to find out what that is. Now I'm hooked too - I'll need to read the rest of the books in the series.

We still have the Jamberry book you gave our daughter as a gift when she was a baby. It's been one of her favorites and the spine is all torn apart from being well-read! We always loved the rhyming. Good Night Moon is an all time favorite of ours too! Another really good one worth mentioning is Owl Babies. My younger daughter still asks me to read this book to her some nights because it's such a comforting bedtime story.

My 13 year old was reluctant to read science fiction too, and then discovered a series of books by Scott Westerfeld. So far she has read Uglies and Pretties, and is now hooked on the series. I haven't read these books myself, but my daughter is encouraging me to read them - she says if I read them I'll really enjoy them. I'd like to read them because then we'll be able to discuss them.
