Thanks for your comment, I've not decoupaged a photo onto canvas, but I would think there's no reason why not. I tend to use silicone glue for sticking things onto canvases as it is a strong glue then, should you want to change anything, you can easily remove it. Any residue of glue can be rubbed off.
Any form of thickish card or photo paper would be ideal.
