The idea that yeast is a common allergen is a misinterpretation of some blood tests that often get run in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like Crohn's, ulcerative colitis (UC), and celiac. When someone suffers from these diseases, they frequently also have compromised integrity of the intestinal lining. This allows more potential antigens to enter the blood, which will stimulate an immune reaction. Anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) can be used as a diagnostic tool for IBD, because people with IBD can be expected to frequently have compromised linings compared to healthy controls. Thus, people with IBD tend to produce ASCA when... Continue reading

This is a recipe that will help anyone following the PEERtrainer Cheat System or doing the cleanse. It is a yummy, nutrient dense, detoxifying powerhouse of a recipe that will fill you up and make you feel great!!! What I like about this recipe is that it uses just one spice/herb in addition to salt and pepper. This makes it easy! Cauliflower with sweet onion and bacon Inspired by COOKFRESH 2 slices of Bacon (feel free to rock your inner bacon if need be) 1/2 pound of fresh spinach leaves 1 lb of chopped cauliflower. Usually a large head, chopped... Continue reading

This is a variation of the PEERtrainer Energy Soup that we have been making for years. This variation takes less time, and I find it very easy to make in the morning, and it lasts 2 days usually. It also has a very different taste and color. Ingredients 1 box (32 fl oz (1 quart) 946 ml of PACIFIC organic soup starter: Chicken Pho Soup Base 3 large heads of organic fresh broccoli (only 1/2 the stems) 1/2 of a large head of organic fresh cauliflower 10 shitake mushrooms (or 1 box of regular button mushrooms, washed) 1 can of... This is the first half of notes from the latest Q and A. People had asked us for an easier way to digest the calls, so we are experimenting with this. We are also publishing this for the whole PEERtrainer community to see. We have a lot of people who are successful right away- and some for whom it takes some more effort. We are making a big effort to paint as realistic picture as possible, to show you the full range of results. The rest of the notes will be published tommorrow on this same post. Question 1: A... We recently asked our friend Jonny Bowden the following question: "Can stress prevent you from burning fat-even when you exercise and eat right?" His answer is interesting because it is a component of something called 'Weight Loss Resistance"- that sense... Continue reading

This is a segment from a larger guide to sweeteners: Do Artificial Sweeteners Promote Weight Gain? The biggest reason to avoid artificial sweeteners is not related to their potential toxicity, but is rather related to their purpose. The only reason to use a zero-calorie sweetener is to avoid... the excess calories one would ingest through the use of a real sugar, in an effort to reduce total daily caloric intake. While this goal is achieved in the very short-term, all evidence suggests the use of artificial sweeteners perpetually leads to increased daily caloric intake. Research shows that when we consume... This is a small excerpt from a new guide to protein on PEERtrainer. This section helps to shed light on an interesting subject. So often we hear that vegetables are not a complete protein. Here is what that really means: "One concept always brought up when debating animal versus plant protein is the completeness of the protein. Animal proteins offer a complete array of the amino acids our body needs, and has always been set as the golden standard of protein completeness. Vegetable proteins, on the other hand, are derided as being "incomplete", or lacking in certain essential amino acids.... Continue reading

One of the biggest challenges we have at PEERtrainer is when we are introducing a new idea that contradicts a deeply held belief or thought. The areas of cleanses is a prime example. When most people think of cleanses, they think of things like The Master Cleanse, colonic cleanses, juice fasts or other things where there truly is a negative connotation. These cleanses feature water, sugar and juice and no other food. They are essentially liquid fasts. The most important concept to communicate here is that your body detoxes naturally. And there are two distinct phases of this process. Step... Continue reading

By Habib Wicks, PEERtrainer co-founder At PEERtrainer we have been following Stephen Covey's advice, being very mindful of the space between stimulus and response, following the publication of an article on the difficulty of weight loss from a widely followed blogger at the New York Times. Many people have read the article and asked our opinion of it, because the conclusion it reaches is completely, 180 degrees opposite of everything we have learned running this company. We have talked to a lot of people in our industry, and also considered our own experience helping guide people toward healthy, long term... Continue reading

We were sent the following email: "I read the edited transcript of the call with JJ Virgin on detoxification. JJ mentioned that The Master Cleanse helped in getting the toxins out, but no way of flushing it out of the system. Part of The Master Cleanse consists of having a herbal tea in the evening along with water and sea salt in the morning to flush the toxins out. Please advise if that is really true. Thanks." In the call linked to above JJ said: "We detoxify in two phases. The first thing is to make them able to get... Continue reading

"Clean" by Alejandro Junger, M.D. is an ambitious and important book. It might be the first published manual of a broad and rigorous cleanse or detox protocol. Junger also runs The Clean Program, which is an online cleanse program that one can choose to do separately from the book. Clean will present to you a new view of what could be possible for your body. It is a big vision. In the words of Dr. Junger himself "Clean requires a fairly radical reorientation toward food." For those of you who have been around PEERtrainer and whose primary motivation has been... Continue reading
