Jim, congregations will only need one subscription to the online edition of "Glory to God". Because the edition is online, subscribers will be given a username and password, accessible from any computer with internet. No physical information will be given on CD or stored on an individual computer. Each congregation will be responsible for deciding how many staff (or members) have permission/access to the database; each congregation may share the username with whomever they deem appropriate.
Large Print Edition Clarification
Many people have questions about the large print edition of Glory to God. Here are a few answers: Each pew edition page (words and music) will be enlarged and printed on 8 1/2 x 11" paper. Because the volume of the book will require approximately two reams of paper, it will not be bound (in on...
Bob, all copyright information will be printed underneath each hymn or song. If there is no copyright (c) line, users will know that the text, tune, and arrangement are public domain. A page of contact information for copyright holders (like pg. 2 in the current Sampler) will be included in every edition of "Glory to God".

"Christian Century" Article
Are you still wondering, "why a new hymnal?" Is your congregation asking the same question? Presbyterian Committee on Congregational Song chair, Mary Louise Bringle, wrote an article published in this week's Christian Century. (May 1, 2013) Here is a brief excerpt: In the current political climate, such hard-won compromises seem... Continue reading

Indexes
The indexes are often the most-used section of a hymnal. Often frayed and battered from weeks and years of regular use, the final pages are the first place many turn when seeking a particular hymn or topic. The pew edition of Glory to God will be published with a topical,... Continue reading

Bill, many Presbyterians wanted a large print edition with both words and music. This publication is an attempt to meet their need. Unfortunately, enlarging both words and music required a larger page size, which then prevented anyone from comfortably holding the resource. The decision was then between a bound volume with words only, or a loose-leaf edition with words and music. Research found that words and music was the overwhelming preference.

Randy, unfortunately copyright law doesn't provide for a "blanket approval" approach. Our office would enjoy that simplicity as much as congregations. If anything is copied, pasted, or handed out separate from an original source, permission must be gained unless it is public domain. The good news is that it only takes a few minutes (literally 2-5) to confirm coverage or request coverage. Most rights' holders are easily found online or through email. Worship planners and administrators must make this part of their monthly and weekly preparation.

Ordinary Time
These past weeks included travel from coast to coast, with worship and workshops near and far. People often ask, "where is the hymnal? why is it taking so long?" Although the current work is not as easily shared as the committee process, here are the things keeping us busy: Seeking... Continue reading

Online Electronic Hymnal Pricing
Many Presbyterians are excited about the three different electronic editions of Glory to God. In addition to an eBook and a projection edition, an online hymnal is being designed for pastors, musicians, and other worship planners. Users will be able to search by keyword, country of origin, lec...
These are important questions. The Office of Theology & Worship oversaw the liturgical section of the hymnal. Almost all of the liturgy is taken directly from our "Book of Common Worship". You may be interested in this webpage about the liturgy: http://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/worship/glory-god-hymnal-liturgy/ . They are very open to dialogue with interested folks!
Sinners or Debtors?
The first pages of the current Sampler are filled with liturgical material that will be included in Glory to God. Within the Eucharist, the ecumenical version of the Lord's Prayer is printed. Some wonder if the PC(U.S.A.) has adopted new language, or if the hymnal committee simply preferred th...

That is a good and tricky question, Carl. The easiest answer (though perhaps not the best) is that the denomination does not classify congregations according to average worship attendance, but by membership.
Updated Plans for the Electronic Editions
The Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) has been finalizing plans for the electronic editions of the new hymnal, Glory to God. Three different electronic editions will be released in the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014. The online hymnal will be primarily for pastors, musicians, and worshi...

Assuming you have appropriate copyright permission, words & music will be available for downloading, copying and pasting. We are aware of a number of rights holders, however, that will not give the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation permission to publish the words and music electronically; thus, where we do not have rights, a page-holder will show something like, "refer to Pew Edition #xxx".

Common Worship: From Revolution to Revelation
A guest post by David Gambrell from the Office of Theology and Worship: Fifty years ago, something revolutionary happened in the world of Presbyterian worship. In 1961, the UPCUSA (the former northern church) adopted a new Directory for Worship. For more than 300 years before that, the church had been... Continue reading
