By the time the last day rolls around, a completely flat stage, the leader is usually so far ahead that it's impossible for him to be challenged. It's also considered bad cycling etiquette, though it has happened -- most notably in 1987 and 1989. In 1987, Stephen Roche almost lost a 40-second lead when Pedro Delgado broke away on the Champs-Élysées. The final day of the '89 Tour was a time trial and Greg LeMond outraced Laurent Fignon to win the race by 8 seconds.
KC: You also can find links to live video feeds at http://www.steephill.tv/tour-de-france/#live but the problem is the sites have so much traffic that they often are very slow or don't respond at all.
KC: I believe you can view a live Tour de France feed online at Versus.com. The URL is http://www.versus.com/tourdefrancelive When you go the the page, unless you want to pay, choose the "free" option that will pop up, though the video quality might not be the best.
Thanks for the kind words, Steve.
