So well said! "It's that crappy land between leaning in and letting go..." Great comment.

WOW, Cathy. So beautiful. I LOVE this part: "It's one thing to cling to that idea, an idea that the internet loves, and that is the idea of I am enough. But when you find out that you actually aren't in the ways the matter the very most, change is not only possible, it is required." I was so touched by this post. And I know it sounds weird, but I found myself feeling PROUD of you. Like, way to GO Cathy! Way to open up and be real. Way to give other people permission to acknowledge their own imperfections. We all do paint ourselves in the very best light publicly on the Internet, and none of us are. This was so important and honest. Go you.

Very true! I am rarely this succinct when speaking.
Haha! Best comment ever. After the stories Ive heard from you, I dont expect much sympathy about a little old Almond Joy. :)

Thanks for this perspective, Monika! I think Ill rename my fear of decorating commitment as patience, and then Ill see it as more of a virtue. ;) And I definitely look like a hobo while working on any and all outdoor home projects, too!

You are down to earth for sure, my friend, but you do everything in your life with such care, purpose, and intention (including your lovely memory-infused decorating), and while Im not exactly intimated by you anymore, these are qualities I wish I had in greater abundance! ;)

Thanks sweet ladies! I AM responding to individual reader comments, but they've stopped showing up automatically in my comment lists. I shall see if I can remedy that!
Wow, this comment did my heart good! Truly, thank you for saying such unbelievably kind things. Im recording this one in my compliments journal! (I really do have one. I think everyone should for those days when they need a little pick-me-up.) Ill happily be compared to Kate Winslet any day; I very much admire her.

Good for you! And I hold firmly to the belief that its better to lose 50 pounds slowly than quickly. You have a MUCH better chance of keeping it off! You should be proud!

You are so right. I used to get stuck in unproductive lifes not fair thinking cycles, and in my 20s I worked really hard to embrace the idea that we all have different mountains to climb. It doesnt matter if its easier for someone else than it is for me in this area. Because there are other areas (like schoolwork) where I have never struggled but others have. What I need to do is focus on my own path. Good luck to you, Deb! 35 pounds in a year is definitely a victory. Hope things smooth out for you soon!

I hope I havent oversold my little strategy! ;) Im looking to make a series of small and simple (and therefore, I hope, permanent) changes this year. Im just tired of getting geared up for radical transformations that dont stick! And thanks for the compliment, by the way!
