believe it or not--and none of what follows is meant to defend his stance on this particular matter--Sanford is pretty much the best we can do in South Carolina. His first term was 'good enough' to keep from losing the governorship to the dems(a long shot in SC no matter what Sanford had done). He won't be hailed as the State's savior any time soon, but he's upset his fellow GOPers nearly as often as he has the democrats. Sanford is pretty middle-of-the-road as far as SC politicians go. Do remember, this is the State that didn't stop re-electing Strom Thurmond until he died. At the age of 100. I've read that his rejection of the stimulus money is based on the fact that States are not allowed to spend it where they see fit rather than having to put it mainly into education and health care(he wanted to use it to help pay off SC's debt, and even put in a special request to the White House for an exception). Props to Clyburn (whose District in SC is quite obviously gerrymandered to include most of the poorest people in the State) for his foresight on the bill. Palin's just nuts. I'm not so sure it's healthy for people to live so far away from the rest of the country out by themselves. Maybe Alaska should be on a time share with Arizona, so the people can get a little sunlight when they need it.

UPDATE: The "U" is back in action. This may, in fact, be a ploy by the city as part of their bid to bring the Olympics to C icago...

T anks, Mi hael! i wasn't sure of the status of the deal. googling "Tribune sells Cubs" gets you the announcement from 2007 on the Cubs website and similar stories. wikipedia says that in January it was announced the Cubs will be sold to Tom Ricketts for $900 million. I guess i should work on my journalistic research process...
