IT all began with Gustel. In 1992, Edith Lodes-Now- otny came across a teddy bear pattern at a craft store while looking for other items. “I made the bear from the pattern and called him Gustel,” said Edith. “He was a giant of 50cm. A few weeks later I found... Continue reading

Finding a way to showcase a finished piece of jewellery can be just as difficult as making the piece itself. You want to make sure you capture the beauty of the piece while showing it in a pleasing manner. A poorly laid-out piece, whether in person or in a photograph, can ruin an otherwise stunning piece. Neena Shilvock of Caprilicious Jewellery has come up with a way to decoupage your own mannequin! We think this is a really great idea, as it allows you to customise your mannequin to your own desires. You can find her directions here: http://bit.ly/DecoupageMannequin What... Continue reading

I'm back from Sweden bursting with new ideas and techniques to try, a suitcase full of beads and some wonderful new friends. As I mentioned in my last blog I flew out on Thursday to stay with Bead designer and fellow guinea pig enthusiast Anna Lindell. Anna had invited me to join her for the weekend with a large gathering of beaders at their annual event; PUSS Parltraff. PUSS, which means 'kiss' in Swedish and stands for Pärlor (beads), Utmaningar (challenges), Skojigt (fun), and Stimulerande (invigorate). It was just that; a whole 3 days of beading, workshops, chatter, competitions and... Continue reading
