Snow? No!!!! Your sink and counters are GORGEOUS.
Awesome / Not Awesome
AWESOME: mudding over old backsplash, cabinet, previous owner's security system panel, windowsill (after removing wood sills) and the many, MANY holes in the wall from their old window coverings (forget we've lived here for ten years, will you?). NOT AWESOME: I'm tired of looking at it, but d...

There's a similar recipe on epicurious but with LOTS of butter. Sigh. It's my favorite kind of caramel corn now.(Maple-Pecan Caramel corn, if anyone's interested.)
A Year of Popcorn: Maple Popcorn
You saw this one coming, right? It's March...sugaring season....of course that must unite with the very food staple by which we Soules sustain ourselves. Yes, yes...this March, I bring you Maple Pecan Popcorn. Sweet - but not too much. And deliciously crunchy with those nuts. This one goes ...

I need to track down my electronic copy of the recipe. Until then, if you google "carrot cookies with orange icing", and choose any of the sites with the word "grandma" or "aunt", that's the recipe! It seems to have been a popular one with the grandmas...
Cookies!!!!
My litany the past two months has been, "I wish that someone would show up on my doorstep with cookies." Yep, that's how pathetic I've been. But look! My cousin Alyson sent me cookies!!!! And her daughter made me a duct tape rose. Just because they thought I needed them. They're carrot cookie...

Oh, I agree. I think that I probably pieced part of this quilt during Call the Midwife! Then took a break to read the book.
Nice, mindless therapy
It's been a rough two months - trying to iron out some issues with a project at work, while wanting to hide under the covers and never come out. Not the hard stuff that most of you deal with. Just my not-so-hard stuff that feels very hard in my admittedly pampered world. But there was a wonderfu...

Your father does look so kind. I believe that he does know your boys. I hope that his wonderful traits shine through in them.
sunday stories-dad
This is one of my favorite pictures of my dad. Next to him, is my sister. I think why I love this picture so much is it really shows in his face what a kind man my father was. He loved children, he loved to joke and tell stories, he truly loved to be with people...especially his family. T...
Beautiful quilt - I love the back!
I don't know why I bother folding the quilts...
... it's been so chillly they end up like this - always. There is often someone snuggled up in them. I keep walking by and folding them, but why bother? Speaking of quilts, here are some closeups of the redhead's birthday quilt. Our latest 'Nana-Made' quilt. I LOVE it! It uses a lot of...

Cozy little apple crisps, with some ballet thrown in
As long as we're on the baking theme... Little apple crisps, made in muffin papers for the church party. I was really happy that these were so easy and fast, and that they turned out so well. You need wax-lined papers, though - otherwise the butter seeps through a bit. I dropped these off and...

winter games
There's another snowy winter's day ahead today. I know for certain that means a few things will happen - there will be cross country skiing for some, there will be tea for all, and a game...or two or four will be played by quite likely every single one of us. Morning, noon and ...
Aww, thank you. It was a wonderful Christmas season! And it would have been all the better if I could have spent some of it with you.
The 2012 cookie dough
Once again, I've had too much fun delivering cookie dough. And I've managed to get two dinner invitations out of the process. Much thanks to my friends for taking such good care of me! I'm not done delivering yet, and that "Happy Holidays" label looks pretty silly in mid-January. Oh, well. T...

Cozy Christmas dessert
Christmas dessert at my parent's house. Sticky toffee pudding cottages. Set against my mom's dining table centerpiece, it really was ridiculously cute. My office has been working at a Boston church for some years now. Right across the street is a wonderful restaurant where we discovered the j...

Thank you! I use my cousin Mariannes frosting recipe (with one modification). Beat 1 cup butter until fluffy. Add 1 pound powdered sugar and a dash of salt, and beat well. In a 1/3 cup measure, pour 1 tbsp vanilla and a few drops of almond flavoring; fill the rest of the measuring cup with 1/2 and 1/2 (or milk or cream). Add to the butter/sugar mixture, and beat until smooth. Her original recipe uses that much liquid for 2 cups of butter/2 lbs of sugar, but Ive found that I like softer icing for cookies. I often add more vanilla after I taste the final product.
It sets up okay if you frost the cookies the night before; cookies can be bagged, but some of the frosting will smush With that much butter, it chills well and then goes softer as it warms. But it tastes incredible!
Cozy cookies
As we continue to pretend that my life is filled with cozy, wrapped-up-in a-quilt days, let's look at cookies. Dogs in hand-knit sweaters (lower left corner) Bears in hand-knit sweaters and scarves. Fluffy clouds. And gnomes. All for the office cookie exchange, where we had hot apple ci...
