I've had a birthday! And it was lovely. And I have lots to write about it. Maybe tomorrow? In the meantime, this article from the New York Times Magazine illustrates the beauty of reading online - the article is fifty... Continue reading

Since you were kind enough to ask: this wonderful fabric is from mummysam's designs at Spoonflower. She has another "portraits hung on the wall" design but with knitting! I love her style. She authored the book/pattern for my "I wish... Continue reading

Thank you! I've been looking for fun valentines to send out. You're so kind to share them.
Depressing? I'm so sorry! Just remember that it's the January-February time of the year when so many of us look around and say "what am I doing?" and "Why aren't I doing more?" and "Why aren't those goals met yet?" If you're me, it's also the "Why did you ever think you COULD do that?" time of the year. But it's also a new year, so exciting and full of hope and snow days. Anyway - what you do is enough! I love your designs. I've given dishtowels embroidered with your Christmas elves for years. And my friends' children still love their Olives and Archies.

The Arizona kids and I have sung certain songs together since they were babies. Now that the oldest of those babies is getting married!!!!! I thought that it was time that we actually knew the words. We tend to sing... Continue reading

Terry Pratchett is among my absolutely favorite authors! There's a volume of his short stories that's just waiting for me to sit down and read!

It's the last week of October,so I suppose we should end the summer reading program at the end of this week. Even though I still haven't met all my goals! Between comfort reading during deadline season, then snatches of reading... Continue reading

So, did anyone read something funny? I'm glad that I put this goal on the list, because I then HAD to re-read some P.G. Wodehouse. In honor of the dog/balloon, I went back to Wodehouse's short story, "Goodbye to All... Continue reading

They might not get any more stalwart than Stanley Potts, the hero of David Almond's "The Boy Who Swam with Piranhas." He's kind and true, he runs off and joins the fair, and he communes with fish. What more could... Continue reading

City of Bells is my very favorite, followed (or matched) by Linnets and Valerians. Some of hers are now on kindle (which means I can read on my phone, at night, under the stars), so that's what I read: Pilgrim's Inn; The Dean's Watch; and Gentian Hill. I can only hope that City of Bells will be reprinted (or digitized) someday!

I have, in fact, read this summer. But not in an adventuresome sort of way. I'm facing another deadline, and I've been rather desperately grabbing for comfort reading. Re-reads, mostly. Lots of Elizabeth Goudge. But don't feel sorry for me.... Continue reading

Wow! I hope you order that in a really big size and frame it. Such a beautiful photograph. It captures that magic of childhood summers.
