After seeing Lulu's portrait of Optimus Prime, an incredibly kind friend of ours at Hasbro sent Lulu a box of Transformers. She was ecstatic! Amazing! It's not even her birthday and it felt like Christmas all over again! THANK YOU, Secret Uncle! So very sweet of you to think of Lulu! Continue reading

We used to live next to the Sullivan St Bakery in New York City. Every day we would succumb to the smells of Jim Lahey's amazing bread and I am proud to say, I can bake my own loaves at home now that we live thousands of miles away. This no-knead recipe is dummy-proof and a crowd pleaser. Give it a try. And savor it! Ingredients: 3 cups (430g) flour 1½ cups (345g or 12oz) water ¼ teaspoon (1g) yeast 1¼ teaspoon (8g) salt olive oil (for coating) extra flour, wheat bran, or cornmeal (for dusting) Equipment: Two medium mixing... Surprise! Courtesy of Ba Ngoai for the Chinese Lunar New Year, Lulu received a Kickboard MiniKick today. And it's everything she ever wanted. We quickly scooted down to the beach so Lulu could take her new wheels for a test drive. And after hours of pushing around, she happily passed out at home. Continue reading

We are great big fans of all the Miyazaki movies. The female lead characters are strong and smart. They're great role models for young girls!

We had the great fortune of catching Miyazaki's classic animated film, Kiki's Delivery Service at the Aero Theatre with Lulu's BFFs, NUF, RAD and Mi-chan. It was the first time screening a movie in the theatre for the pals and they were all incredibly excited! The kids enjoyed Japanese snacks made by Mi-chan and fresh popcorn from the theatre. They knew to be quiet and received booster chairs to help them see the screen. While some parts of Kiki's proved to be a little scary, the posse did great! If you're interested in catching another Miyazaki film in the theatre,... Continue reading

Michelle shared this "Hello Kitty In Space" video with me knowing our family would enjoy the video tremendously (we did). While it's near identical to last year's "A Toy Train In Space" video, it's just as fascinating to see an every day object in near space propelled by a child's imagination and doing. Lauren Rojas, a 13-year-old Californian sent Hello Kitty up into the atmosphere to test the effects of altitude on air pressure and temperature for her school's science fair. More about the video: Cornerstone Christian school 7th grade science project. The effects of Altitude on air pressure and... Continue reading

Look what Lulu got! I'm incredibly excited that Astronaut John "Danny" Olivas, a real live spacewalker, took the time to write a few inspirational words for my little Princess Scientist! Dr. Olivas is a retired American astronaut who spent 27 days, 17 hours, and 5 minutes in space. He was selected by NASA in 1998 and served on two missions. On spaceflight STS-117, the 118th Shuttle mission, Dr. Olivas accumulated 14 hours and 13 minutes of extra-vehicular activity experience (the first on-orbit EVA repair to Space Shuttle Atlantis). On spaceflight STS-128, the 128th Shuttle mission, Astronaut Olivas accumulated 20 hours... Continue reading
