One of the funnest things for a blogger is to meet in real life the friends she's made online. Over the weekend, I had opportunity to do this very thing. Leigh Kramer and I met a few years ago at a blogging conference, but I've gotten to know her much... Continue reading

I'm writing this before I've had a chance to preview Lisa Leonard Design's new summer collection, but this I know: with over 50 new amazing pieces including a limited edition artisan line, I'll find something to take advantage of the one-day 20% off sitewide sale she's offering. I just hope... Continue reading

Are you a believer in the two-fold joy of shopping - and buying - at your local farmer's market? I am. Chattanooga has a burgeoning local food movement, and I'm slowly coming around to paying a little more to support farmers and local initiative. Joel Houser, in the Spring 2013... Continue reading

The anguish in her voice broke my heart. She had just confirmed her father's affair with another woman after months of speculation, separation and conversation. Hers is a version of the same story I've heard before from others I love, and it stings my heart to listen again. She asked... Continue reading

Diane, YAAEEEE--so glad you're planning to take part (and I'll have DaySpring send a book your way IF YOU ENTER THE GIVEAWAY and your name is drawn ;) ). I'm counting on a new voice when I get to heaven; cause right now my noise? She ain't so joyful.

When I'm quiet on the blog, it usually means one of two things: Life offline wants more of my attention. ~ or ~ I'm writing elsewhere. As a regular contributor to (in)courage, Simple Mom and Deeper Story's family channel, there's always a chance I'm writing something for one of them,... Continue reading

Rose, While there are many things I could say in response to your honest, direct comment, I will only say this: though I expressed conflict in processing why I felt compelled to write that piece, my general feeling is it was more about freedom to speak the truth to one another than anything else (though I understand why readers took away more of the convo re: modesty). The expression on my face in the picture you referenced was my favorite to express how much fun my sister and I had that day; but if it sends an inconsistent message, I certainly don't feel the need to leave it up. My husband, friends and family have a link to our fun photo shoot.

Mark, Welcome back :). Funny, those LinkedIn suggestions... I would love for your wife to read this...as long as you are sending it in the right spirit :). To think this might be a conversation starter for healthy dialogue makes me even happier to have written it!! :)

Good for you, Stacey, to see this! Maybe if you haven't already done this, have a conversation with him when you AREN'T in the middle of one of those times; assure him that it's okay to disagree (and then don't punish him when he does ;) :)).

Jess, Yeah...the shorts comment didn't play that well when he said it, either (or a LOT of other things he's spoken in truth...). But we are fortunate if we'll have one of those guys who tries to tell us what he REALLY thinks; even if it takes us a while to hear, huh?

In case you were unaware, I feel it is my civic duty to alert you to Very Important Things you might otherwise miss. Of course it's near impossible to miss a blasted thing these days with the Twitter and the Facebook SCREAMING AT YOU EVERY SECOND if you don't mute... Continue reading

Dani, Actually that depends on where you live but you bring up a good point; people should find out if it's permissible where the recipient lives (in TN you don't have to have one.).

Ahhh, thank you for chiming in, Juliana :). Based on that Amazon order summary, I discovered it's actually one of the most frequently purchased items from the list :).

Sophie Hudson speaks my language: Southern, Story and Sass. Mounds and mountains of all three. And she understands and rightly uses ALL CAPS (and parenthetical asides) EXACTLY and APPROPRIATELY when necessary to maximize effect. That's an art. Perhaps better known online as BooMama, she celebrated the debut of her first... Continue reading
