My word for 2014 is whole. I thought it was going to be a more personal word, but I realized as I've looked back at this year, that what I have been doing most with my work is trying to... Continue reading

it never even crossed my mind people would think that. but I guess the "spring arrival" gives that idea. I would just never end a business story with a pregnancy announcement. (or call my baby a product). ;)

Sadly, no, those were limited editions. But if you want a smaller 4x6 size plus some other images you can pick up a postcard pack here : http://elisejoy.com/make29printpack

read part ten here. After having a baby in 2013, I entered 2014 feeling a bit more like myself. I had a plan to close the stamp shop, launch MAKE29 and start the podcast. Basically in that order. As I... Continue reading

I am taking a less traditional approach to Project Life in 2014. Often that means not many layouts, just one or two a month. It's been fun to just make SOMETHING each month without worrying about documenting EVERYTHING. click to... Continue reading

These past few months I have talked about my attempt (and so far success) with the capsule wardrobe plan. I've also talked about how I don't care to organize my digital archives. And I have mentioned that there is nothing... Continue reading

read part nine here. One of the greatest mistakes that I have ever made was assuming that I could do it all at the same time. I planned to take a two month "maternity leave" when I had Ellerie. But... Continue reading

read part eight here. I entered 2012 without much of a plan for how I'd make money. There was no plan for anything really. Paul was still deployed. Our new townhouse was mostly decorated. I was running out of steam... Continue reading

it's like a weird popcorn. :) And I might! I think it will be so much more fun when she can TELL me what she wants the photos to be of. :)

Yes! It will definitely be a book. I think I'll print two copies. One for my shelf and one for her shelf. :)

Thank you so much! yes, I am SO GLAD I have grown over the past decade. How sad it would be if I hadn't! ;) That's a good question - the story is written and there is not a lot of talk about Paul because he's been so chill throughout the whole thing. Paul is incredibly supportive, and his steady income is what made it work for me to only contribute $30K in the early years. Thankfully, I have never gone into debt for what I am doing, either with a bank or with our finances. I keep my business separate from our accounts, so it's not like we'd spend $5000 of our money on something for the business, I would spend $5000 of Elise Joy money on something for the business. Because of that, I don't think he worries too much. He also knows I'm absurdly practical about this stuff. This is my dream job, but I'm awake from a practical standpoint.

net = gross income minus expenses. so I paid state and federal taxes on $30K I don't know what the tax rate was in 2011, and I filed jointly with Paul. $30,000 felt like a lot for working for myself but it's not a ton, especially in CA. :)

read part seven here. Sometimes when I start talking money or financial goals people get a bit nervous. "Oh, I hate to think about the money." Or "Oh I'd rather not discuss money." But, let's get real, to make money... Continue reading

Oh no Big Reason - I just think it's hard to have your name and your brand be the same thing. It's (much) harder to separate who you are and what you do. But obviously it works for some (ahem, Martha Stewart!) ;)
