One of my favorite sewing projects that i have the kids make at my preschool are simple wool mice the same pattern can be used to make a bird. http://kleas.typepad.com/kleas/2009/03/how-to-make-a-simple-stuffed-mouse.html
Here you can see the work that my 3, 4 and 5 years olds made. I just love them! http://kleas.typepad.com/kleas/2012/02/what-we-made-at-the-preschool-wool-mice.html
Hand Sewing with Kids :: Getting Started
Maia has been sewing up a storm the last few of months. She started out by hand sewing simple pillows and doll accessories and has since been been asking for (and getting) basic sewing machine lessons from me. She now claims sewing is her second favorite hobby. The first is variably art or, f...
How wonderful! Sure filled my snowy morning with light.
It's Frankie's fault.
They had a magazine full of painters and painting and the kitchen table was free and who needs to clean houses anyway? The more I look at it, the more despair I feel, but what the heck. There are worse ways to spend a Monday afternoon.
those are adorable!! and it seems my 5 year old puts holes in the knees of his pants faster than i can buy them! i love the froggy. thanks Kajsa!
Mending knees in kids jeans tutorial
Today I did something that made me very proud of myself! I managed to mend little e's jeans that have been lying in an annoying pile in my studio for quite some time now. It took me about 20 minutes to get two pairs done! I had fun and used some scraps with heat n' bond (that's the iron-on adhes...
it looks like such an inviting place to create. thank you for sharing with us where all the magic happens. it warms my heart. xx
a glimpse at where the making happens
the thing about my studio is that it is really just a corner of my home so that i am always close to my family and i am also always surrounded and inspired by the art of my friends I can snuggle with the kitties, fetch myself a warm drink from the nearby kitchen and in the morning i can hear the...

Back home. This necklace was waiting for me ... isn't it beautiful? It's made by Anna Wiscombe and you can't find more here. Everything in her shop is lovely and I had a really hard time choosing only one thing! The washing machine beckons... sigh.
ahhh...but when they are so gosh-darned cute no one really minds now, do they??
Oops. I lied.
Not quite ALL of the Christmas decorations are down...

beauty
I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I dyed my hair. Not permanently and not really even noticeably but I did it because I wanted to know how I would feel about it. I am 40 years old and my hair is at least 50% grey. I hardly notice it but then someone will say something unkin...
you are your beauty. and you wear it well.

18**2013 - crochet headphones -
This was a present for a gorgeous girl we know, No 2's friend. Her lovel mum saw a picture of something similar and asked me to re-create it... So I did. The headphones are just standart Sony headphones and I used bamboo yarn to avoid 'itchy' wool issues. Oh I was very nervous... you all k...
Hi Josie! I love to see what you are all reading. I'm chiming in too to share that my eight-year-old boy has also been loving the entire Wimpy Kid series. He recently devoured the entire Beast Quest series and can recommend those if your son hasn't read them yet. Also, he has been flying through the Percy Jackson books (he loves everything Rick Riorden has written.) I think he would love the Hobbit so that may be next.
Hope you are all staying healthy!!
what we're reading
With the cold weather, the flu and the winter in general we've all been reading a lot recently. What could be lovelier that curling up in front of the fire with a good book and a cute dog? Here's some of the books we've been interested in of late. Please share any good books you've enjoyed r...
we had our bouts with the flu in December...yuk. no fun at all!! I'm happy to hear you are all on the mend though. xx
where we've been
Home, mostly. A few little outings but nothing much because we've all had the flu. We were sick for a long time, weeks really, but now it is done I'm kind of glad it happened. There has been a lot of reading together, baking together, a little art together and...

Bead Icicles
A bunch of these pretty bead icicles would look so nice hanging in a window! Found at Kleas.
what a great idea Monica!!! it will be so fun to look at and see how many projects you've completed once you've covered every square inch.
(as for the C.O.D.E. I've got it too...bad. Add to the boxes of letters, i even have old school projects of mine from when i was a 7 or 8...geez)
7**2013 - project bag revisited -
I don't know about you, but I have three children who do lots of things and whilst THEY do all their things I get to do lots of waiting around. Sometimes I read, sometimes I knit or crochet or whatever which means that I always carry around a project bag. For the past few months I've used the s...
yes Marjorie, you have my permission to use this idea in your classroom.
Mother's Day Gifts
Here's what we made at the preschool today. These are clothespin refrigerator magnet clips. There are many ways to decorate these but we chose to go with a flower theme. They are quite easy for preschoolers to make once all the pieces are cut. Here are the materials we used...wooden clothe...
ah...the time...usually when the boys are in gymnastics, or during free play at the preschool-it's best to have handwork in my lap so I am busy while they are busy at play.
Thanks for the dye info! I did not know that. I'll try giving it a wash and see if that makes any difference...maybe it will get some of the dye out.
crochet, this time
I was a knit and crochet maniac in November/December, but failed to photo or post most of my projects before they went to their new owners...you know how it is. Here's where I left off on my scarf making. I've moved into the world of cowls. It was this free pattern from Lion Brand that got my ...
Funny...I just finished some cowls using this very same yarn (posted about it yesterday) Do you find it too scratchy to wear around the neck? I used different colors and only one of them felt a bit rough...maybe blocking would soften them up.
knit
I finished the Amarillo Cowl yesterday. See it here on ravelry. I really like how it turned out. It was a little bunchy before I blocked it but now it's nice and drapey. I don't love my cast on and bind off but I never do. For the project I'm working on now I'm trying to figure out the provisi...

Preztel Pincushion Tutorial
This clever pretzel is actually a pincushion with white pinheads for salt! It's easy to make and is a fun addition to any sewing room. Let's get started. Fold the strip lengthwise. Using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, stitch down the long side, leaving a 2 inch opening halfway down. Stitch th...
you were SO good!! not only did you not keep them...you finished them!! i do love that blue!
and i snuck in some margarita "me" time, so yes, i believe Santa very well could be in Pina Colada land. x
4**2013 - wingfeather 2 and 3 -
Now that Santa Claus is sipping Pina Coladas and bleaching his beard in the sun somewhere (what? don't you think so? Isn't he entitled to some me time?), it is safe to show you the two shawls I crochet(ed) for my mother and sister. Wingfeathers 2 Yarn: Jade Sapphire, Cashmere silk 2 ply. C...
This just cracks me up Josie! I remember a similar trip where I was praying that my boy and his sled would not find the ONLY tree within 200 yards...but...thud, screams...thankfully he was ok. It's like the sled is destined to go to the one place you hope it won't. sigh.
whatever you do
Son, whatever you do, don't sled into that giant muddy puddle at the bottom of the hill. It was like he aimed for it.
Loving it Monica!

366: Day 359-366
Christmas Eve with Wille, Martin and Cecilia. Can you spot the extra special gift under the tree :)? Changing trains at Hässleholm on my way to mom’s. A six hour train ride in total and I was lucky not to have anyone on the seat next to me the whole way down. Oh and I didn’t bring my cam...
