[10 Tuesday] tomorrow is May 1st
May 1st is around the corner, and ever since college that has meant May Day at Fenmere. Now, I haven't been active in the SCA for more than a decade a long time, but it is still a remembrance of... Continue reading

I would be willing to pay for Google Reader. While I have an app (currently running off of the Feed API) that is expected to update before July to being Google free, I'm finding that my reading habits require that I read via a browser, so I am not tied to any one (or two or three) machines.
Thoughts surrounding Google Reader's demise
First off, I'm sad to see Google Reader is closing up soon (why so soon when other Google apps came with 12-18 months of notice?). I know some people that developed and worked on the product and to this day I use it several times a day to keep up on a few hundred blogs I follow (as well as weird...

[10 Tuesday] thank goodness for March
This week's 10 for Tuesday is 10 reasons you are happy it is March. Now thinking about the months always makes me remember a story that I probably read in the Fairy Tale Tree. Google failed me this morning, so... Continue reading

I can understand that. And patterns allow the creative among us to build their own doll aesthetic based on yours. So many options out there!
Of course, I have craft eyes bigger than my wallet or time, so I would happily buy one too!
slow moving
It takes me three episodes of Fringe to sew on two sets of arms. That should be my answer when people ask me why I don't sell finished dolls but just patterns. Any Fringe watchers out there? I'm losing interest. 4th season has been a drag I think. I'm feeling sort of like a hostage like I did wi...

The Proposal was hilarious! I love it almost as much as I love your bouffant-ed doll.
bouffant and some videos
I'm working on some dolls for an auction at school. I have a 60s thing in mind so I made this first gal a bouffant. I love it so much I might have to do bouffy hair for all of them! to watch.. I can't wait to see this documentary! I hadn't heard of Vivian Maier before this. So intriguing! ...
I love your method of doing doll hair. I wish I had seen this before I did my last knitted doll. Her head was so heavy that I needed to use a pipe cleaner to give her neck and body the necessary structure to hold all the hair up!
loopy moppy yarn hair how-to
This gal is getting her hair first and here's how it is going down... First I pinned and sewed short bags and a base of hair around her head. Then I wrapped the yarn around cardstock and sewed down the middle. I try my best to keep it evenly spaced but it inevitably bunches up. It doesn't...
The sweater looks wonderful on you. Congrats on a project well done and hopefully you will not need another long project like this to sooth you during your Grammie's recovery.
my sweater is done and now I am wearing it
Thank you for all your support this week. We've been feeling a huge internet hug and it's wonderful. I finished the Toulouse Sweater (here's my project link) a few days ago and I can't tell you how big of a deal this is. It's my first ever knitted sweater. My 3rd attempt. My first sweater atte...
That would be awesome. Please count me in. This is one of the few crafts I've never really done, but I've definitely been interested in.

a complete mess before it gets better
I'm sure others who have moved or, heck, even just done a thorough spring cleaning know and understand the sensation that the mess always gets worse before it gets better. Always. Despite the empty days of the blizzard, the excessive... Continue reading

Very cool. I remember seeing his hunting trophy quilt before, but the others are amazing.
friday favorites: quilt artist luke haynes
Today I bring you the quilted world of Luke Haynes. I learned about Luke through his exhibition at Island Quilter last year that I couldn't attend (boo!). A self-proclaimed "architect turned quilter", he creates quilts often using used clothing (my favorite fabric for quilts). His piec...

I'll have to make that tart. It looks like it would be an awesome fit for most of my group of friends.
raspberry-marzipan tart
I made another dessert from the December Martha, this time a raspberry-marzipan tart. It was very good. I made no changes, except I did cook it about 12 minutes longer and used a slightly small pan, so it was taller. I actually chilled it overnight and then served it room temperature Christmas...

This is by far my favorite shop in the area. It is a testimony to how beautiful the community at Gather Here is and how wonderful and supportive Virginia and her team are that I go consistently to Gather Here even though there are shops closer to where I live that sell similar ranges of products. None of them compare to the camaraderie of a single visit to Gather Here.
Gather Here: An Amazing Local Fabric Shop
There was a poster up in my dentist's office when I was a child that said, "Ignore your teeth and they will go away." This pronouncement had a profound impact on me, sitting there waiting for my turn in the chair. Because you know what? The same holds true for most things that we appreciate in l...
