I'm more of a non-fiction girl - you can get the same amount of drama and intrigue and a good story with juicy details in a non-fiction as you can in a fiction and it comes alive more because it was a life and story that was actually lived! I loved 7 and was a little discouraged when my life wasn't radically altered after reading. I've learned it's all in the steps and heart application, one choice and one day at a time.
three non-fiction books that got me thinking
I've been reading a lot of non-fiction lately. I was so surprised by the recent conversation here about fiction vs. non-fiction, and how many of you said that you vastly prefer novels. I love a great story, of course, but I can't go long without reading a good memoir or personal essay. R...
Oh, lovely, your words are a beautiful time capsule! With my baby being now just 7 years, I too wonder if I would even know what to do if I opted to go back in time to those baby days! I love your words and desire, to fight the longing to be memory-led more than Spirit-led. These words and your example are a necessary reminder even for me, even in these days of older kids and unfamiliar roads ahead. Oh, God let us be a generation that seeks your face and follows where your Spirit leads...! hugs, d
white noise
Oh, white noise machine. Welcome back. We've missed your strangely hypnotic non-melody. Your tune speaks to me of nap time and nighttime and the creak of the rocking chair and of babies tucked in. As I've moved through the past seven weeks, I've found I can't help but to go back and retrace t...
amazing...two beautiful miracles brought into a wonderful life made so by their sweet mama! enjoy these weeks of newborn bliss and know that there are already friends upholding you in prayer for the tougher moments, too. love, d

scars of glory
She wears hers visibly, in plain view for the whole world to see. The tiny scar under her nose is her memorial, a witness to the story of her passing from death to life. Told by those in the know that she would never survive her birth or, if she did, only as one horribly misshapen and void o...
thank you for the sweet comment! I wish you lived closer so we could have these chats in person! come and visit us again in the new year? that's an order! ;) hugs, d
thank you, baby jesus
These are the smiles from forever ago, from that holiday of turkey and thanks that gets us remembering about how and when it all began. The plan was for the whole family to travel back home to celebrate. I'd bring the Native Americans and my sister would bring the Pilgrims, a...
thank you, little brother! :) you were a blessing to us, too...first in the drive down and then through the times we shared and the generosity you showered on us all. I love you and am praying for you daily! much love, d

precisely! and just exactly why we need to seek them out and mine them out of the dribble of celebrity so readily available to our kids.
beautiful people
Selena stood Sunday on a stage in front of thousands. She patiently listened to her introduction, demure in her waiting. Black hair, dark eyes downcast. She wasn't there for her glory - she went for His. My daughter often gets told she looks like Selena. Selena Gomez. The tween tv actress, t...
wow! here I was a week later wondering if my post had actually qualified and today I find myself as the feature! thank you, megan, for your gracious kindness! :) big hugs to you, friend!
Your Green Resource - Week Fifty-Eight
Welcome back, sweet friends, to Your Green Resource! As I mentioned earlier, we are shaking things up heading into the second year of YGR. Last week, we announced the new Wednesday night (9 PM EST) posting time, and this week, we are excited to add THREE new hostess to the YGR line-up! This me...
sister love...beautifully conveyed! the hard times are often what bring us closer and make manifest what truly are the ties that bind - commitment, compassion, and carrying each other's burdens. so glad I have the same with mine!
sister
It’s time I told you about my sister. I’ve droned on about my mom, sung the praises of my dad, and expressed the importance of my brother. But my sister - the person I’m arguably closest to in the world - hasn’t been much of a presence online. For as long as I’ve had this blog (and much long...
Oh thank you, long lost friend! Your words today are a gift...and a reminder of how much I miss your presence in my life! :)
God's best gifts
I still wonder what I might have grown up to be. Not who, but what. I know that no matter my vocation, I would have continued to be me, right down to my inner character and core. But what would I have done? What would I have created if not this family, these children? Besides th...
the link is fixed, just for you, erin! enjoy! :)
weekend worthy
Paper Flowers: My sister-in-law asked last week if I could host about 15 of her friends at my house for a looooong night in India. Sure, she'd bring the food, drinks, and entertainment but I had the impossible task of pulling together instant decor for my freshly painted naked walls that woul...
Just passing on what our Papa is teaching us, sisters in this glorious family!
tender love for tough hearts
These mom days are hard. The tough love too rough on this mama's tender heart. The impulse too strong to want to be so soft. I'd rather coax and cajole and plead and persuade them to choose right, to do what is required instead of choosing to do wrong. I'd rather wait insufferably than to ...
I haven't watched a single episode of this show and so I never read your thoughts on them. Until today. And, girl, did you deliver!! I didn't even need to understand the context, your words were truth and wisdom in a combo power punch! And the Sally Lloyd Jone's quote...one I'm printing out right now for my girls!! Hugs, you brilliant mama, you!
Once Upon a Time Tuesday: We Are Both (part 2)
I am one of those people who believes that all truth is God's Truth. I find that the themes that run through the entire narrative of the Bible are the same ones that permeate Story in all of its forms - books, television shows, movies, poetry, and song. I get chill bumps all over when I come...
oh my gosh diggity darn, those are darling! I am in LOVE right now with brilliant hues of velvet and that prairie trio is the perfect combo of my lvg rm decor! I know as an American residing in Canada I'm not eligible but I so wish I were for this one!! Lucky you! :)
darling and decadent plush pumpkins - win a trio!
I have to start with a confession: I'm not great with decorating. I was born without the decorating gene. My mother had that gene to the max and pulled out seasonal decorations every year. Starting in fall and continuing through the end of the holidays, there were signs of the season all over...
I love the yellow AND grey!

One of my favorite things to constantly switch up at home is the bedding. I love throwing together a mix of sheets, pillow cases, and duvets in various patterns so it always looks a bit different every time. I'm not one of those people who can sleep without any covers, even if it is a warm sum...
Just saw you on the home page of typepad!! So happy for you, you have earned it with your hard work of making this place a safe and happy one for so many! Congratulations, Megan!!
and so I told her she is strong (and that I am, too)
You'll be glad to know I didn't freak out this time. I didn't go all crazy-eyed intense like I did the last time my beautiful seven year old daughter invited me to a conversation about beauty, body, and what it means to be a girl in this culture. She was standing in front of the full-length mi...
wonderful surprise to see megan featured on the front page! what a beautiful blog authored by a beautiful spirit!

weekend in st. louis
We spent the weekend in St. Louis where The Gorilla was honored at his alma mater, Washington University, with a presentation and a dinner. We've traveled so much in the last few weeks (to Vegas and Nashville), but this was the first time we had some true down time and rest. And for the re...

salvageable faith
A faith in flux. The dark night of the soul. Wrestling... These are the descriptions of Christians, true believers, who for a period of time, however brief or lengthy, have found themselves questioning the foundation of their faith. Perhaps this uncertainty comes because of unimaginable tragedy ...
that is where I've landed...the TRUTH about Jesus is real, the TRUTH of His word is solid, the questions remain about what I intend to do with it. thanks for 2 cor 11:3, it really did mean it all to be so simple didn't he? :)

laughed pretty hard when I realized it was a list for a future daughter in law! interesting to note! :)
avoiding proverbs 31 in my new year's resolutions
I think that the Proverbs 31 Woman gets too much publicity. Judging from the sheer abundance of bloggers that have either named their sites some derivative of her description from scripture or boast posts on how you too can be such a woman, I'm probably outnumbered a bazillion to one on this one...
so you really, really like it! ;) thanks for your encouragement!
