I am thrilled to have a pretty good feel for who I am, and to still be learning exactly who I am.
Interests: Animated movies, The Muppets, old Saturday Night Live, nature commentary writing, Scrabble, baseball (Yay Tigers!), and everything edible (except maybe lima beans or apple yogurt). I have just recently discovered the tv show "Creature Comforts" from the British Studio that did Wallace and Gromit, etc. Love that show!

I have plenty (understatement) of seeds coming along now. Below you'll see 12 of the original 18 planted, just transplanted into bigger pots today (6 tomatoes and 6 bell peppers). Also 18 of 21 things started at the "regular" time... Continue reading

I need to either learn to trust the seeding process for indoor starts, or plan to give away lots of plants every year. 27 seedlings coming along now, with potentially 18 more still working on starting. Yep. Twenty-seven. Continue reading

Today is April 2nd, and I last blogged on October 27th. What's up with that? I don't know, exactly. But here I am, and I'm ready for some things. You know, the usual - primarily spring, green, and growing. I'm... Continue reading

Phew. Almost two weeks ago, I put my plot in the community garden near our condo to rest for the winter - and for the foreseeable future. It's sad to me that I can spend 50+ hours of preparation and... Continue reading

So there's this tattoo on my right shoulder blade now. It is not very small, and it is exactly what I wanted to have there - but some friends and family have been surprised by the size of "my ink"... Continue reading

We have success in the tree-removal column. Little crappy weed-like tree is gone! Next comes utility marking and then I can start doing stuff! The yard is looking a little naked and even sadder now, but I see those things... Continue reading

You are correct. That - tomaybe - is not a word. But I'm not convinced yet that these are tomatoes. They did, however, come out of my extremely disappointing and completely given-up-on garden. It remains to be seen if any... Continue reading

I finished the battle with the unidentified shrub thing in front of Prune Ridge this morning! The spot where it was in the garden bed picture is kind of shiny - like maybe it's muddy? Yes - I assaulted the... Continue reading

I have mapped out the next three reinvention projects I want to tackle outside, ideally in the week ahead. We shall see on the timeline, this all may be too ambitious for one week. I will get this stumpy old... Continue reading
I'm quite certain that everyone has the experience of putting down something that you use frequently, only to find that you have no idea where you left it next time you need it. Eye glasses? Car keys? Cell phone? How... Continue reading

I am extremely pleased with my progress and rather proud of my tenacity in clearing the neglected front garden so I can make it better. All in the large plot is cleared as of this morning, with the exception of... Continue reading

I have all but given up on my gardening in the community plot a short distance from our house this year. I have already "pulled" nearly everything out of the garden ("pulled" because so little grew that there was very... Continue reading

The condos at Chapel Hill are slowly being painted, and our building is up next. Power-washing the siding and trimming back all the greenery that has grown up against buildings happens first, and our grounds crew has been hard at... Continue reading
The number of "bricks" (2 different sizes of rectangle paver stones) I estimate I need for the patio I intend to build. Yep. Continue reading

These are the only remaining old ugly metal horizontal blinds at Prune Ridge. We have a new bamboo roman shade, but it's not installed yet. Maybe next weekend... Continue reading

This is our relatively fancy new wireless printer/scanner thing. It's awesome, and very shiny and pretty. And our house is not necessarily free from dust. And our cat is not well behaved (most cats aren't, really). She thinks it a... Continue reading

Ideally, next spring and summer will find us with a lovely back yard space at Prune Ridge. This remains to be seen, because I plan to tackle this transformation pretty much by myself... but I think I can do it!... Continue reading

Yesterday morning's work, followed by this morning's work. Pictures are fantastic for seeing progress as opposed to just feeling it! Continue reading

John has been "down for the count" for just over a week now since his pretty scary pinched nerve adventure late last week. He's hanging in there, and spending a good portion of his time on the couch. Olive is... Continue reading
On August 1st I did something I would guess many people might assume I have "always wanted to do," but I'm not sure that's the case. I started thinking many months ago about getting a tattoo - and I did... Continue reading

By now, any of my readers will either already know or guess correctly that my gardening this year has been nothing short of almost a complete failure. I still have tomato plants that believe they might ripen some fruit for... Continue reading
That is all. I'm back and I'm trying to jump-start this blogging thing again. Here goes! Continue reading

Looking good to start with: Even better in the crust: Decorative cuts weren't very even or centered: But the end product? Looks fantastic! I found this recipe online after a simple search when we came home with a box of... Continue reading
