I've been trying to sketch regularly. At least the sketching part, the coloring part can wait usually, although if there is a particular color I'm trying to match, I keep that in mind when choosing what my subject will be.... Continue reading

Aw, sorry to hear that. She had both the Noodler Creaper, and the Noodler Ahab- I wrote with both in the journal page shown. She told me she spent time adjusting the nib on the Ahab- you can place it further in or out to change amount of ink that is released.

Thanks! Well, on these I used all different pens and sometimes a brush. On all of these I put the pen down first (when used)...meaning, I drew first and colored in second. Although, I didn't like the blue "grandpa" cactus so I did go over it with a fine black pen afterwards. If I'm painting like you describe, and want to write or draw on top (like in my art journals), I have found what you describe to be true, so I use less expensive pens, experimenting with ones from office supply stores vs. art stores. In MA's Sketchbookery class she goes over all different pens and sketching techniques, many I used here, so you might find it to have the answers and demos that more directly answer your question...
