Well, I just tried to look up how old something has to be before it is considered vintage - and it's only 7 years. I feel so much better. I remember those buttons. I think I had some on something my mom made me - perhaps a polyester jumper with frilled sleeves...vintage all over the place!!

Happy Mother's Day! A few months ago, when I was doing the big studio cleanout, I came across a pattern that had some fabric tucked into it. It was an old pattern - dare I say vintage? Is a publication... Continue reading

Do you ever have those moments where you see a pattern, and you love it right away, and you're pretty sure that you should get it right away, but you hold off because it's just a pattern and you have... Continue reading

I can see that this idea may become the default when you can't think of a pithy framework for a post. Here we go... 1. I altered a grad dress for a client - took in the side seams and... Continue reading

Last week while I was ironing, something wonderful happened (how often can you say that?). I picked up one of my husband's shirts and the cuffs were worn out. This particular shirt is one that I have had my eye... Continue reading

Well, so much for my master plan of catching up with the blogging. Ah well. Sometimes life gets in the way of my fun. Onward and upward... A really exciting thing is happening here in Alberta. Spring might actually be... Continue reading

I love words. Just sayin'. I am a little late to this party, but I am in love with the Scout Woven Tee from Grainline Patterns. I have made two versions, and they are both good and bad. Let's dig... Continue reading

It's Monday of Catch-Up Week. And as such, it's Blanket Day. When last we heard of the blanket (here) I was engaging in extreme diversionary tactics - starting a new project to entice me to finish the old project. Apparently,... Continue reading

Shortly after the last post, I came down with the cold of the century - otherwise known as The Plague. It rendered me absolutely incapable of doing anything but sitting and watching the third season of Downtown Abbey. I have... Continue reading

Recently, a former neighbour called and asked for a little help covering a foam cushion with quilted plastic to make a mattress for a cradle that her husband had made for their imminent grandchild. I hadn't seen her in a... Continue reading

Since I am unusually obsessed with my present project it would have to be that (a blanket made out of Noro Silk Garden). But when I am done, I think it will have to be a Puffin Sweater. The colours are fabulous.

Congratulations. Spinning is magical on many fronts. For me, it is the magic of connection with generations past, as well as the land and my heart. It all comes out in the beat of the treadle and the draw of the yarn. This time of year, when the land is hidden, it seems even more appropriate and lovely. Thanks for your writing.

It has finally happened. The January Urge to Purge has reached the sewing studio. At the moment, I am in the "worse before it gets better" stage: That's a view down the corridor where my machines live. Aaand that's my... Continue reading

While I was planning this week for all bras-all the time, it turns out that I have a reasonably good fit right out of the gate. Combine that with the usual slow down in January, and I ended up with... Continue reading

First of all, I would like you to take a moment and look at the title of yesterday's post....did you notice that? "When the starts align?" That was supposed to be "stars" aligning. I think my Freudian slip is showing.... Continue reading

One of the things on my winter list over there (to the right) is to make myself a well-fitting bra. I've made a few bras, and tweaked the fit a bit, but I haven't come up with one that fits... Continue reading

I've been at this sewing thing for awhile. I'm pretty good at it, even. The thing about sewing, or most things really, is that the moment you have those kind of thoughts - you know the ones: "A dress for... Continue reading

I love snow. I don't neccessarily love winter. But I do love a good snowfall. It changes the tone of the world outside and in. Everything is quieter - the sounds muffled by the new layer of insulation. The quality... Continue reading
