FairTax Chronicle of the Day: Between 2003 and 2012, the IRS cost U.S. taxpayers between $110.8 billion and $132.6 billion in faulty earned income tax credit (EITC) payments. Under the FairTax plan, no EITC, no IRS, no faulty payments. Here is an update to get Xero to become a much better propgram, with more VOTES for this Peter McCarroll Faster Editing of Xero Transactions post (New Feature Suggestion). Faster Editing of Xero Transactions I agree too. Xero also might start with the QuickBooks Accountant Data Review, Reclassify Transactions approach. I also like the Unix Grep program, which came to... Continue reading

Xero will be a much better propgram if we get more VOTES for this Peter McCarroll Faster Editing of Xero Transactions post (New Feature Suggestion). I'd like to see a faster way of editing transactions. As an accountant I do LOTS of editing of transactions and it is frustrating to have to find the transaction in a report or screen,... When Intuit stock dives back to where it was TWO years ago (not even keeping pace with the Dow), while Xero stock soars almost 500%, the market is telling us what to expect in company product excellence and related growth. That is why even QuickBooks insiders like me have been dumping Intuit products for Xero and Drake Software (pro tax).... Continue reading

We now have some more Florida Unemployment insanity. This time it involves the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). It says that a Florida Unemployment online application violates federal civil rights and nondiscrimination laws. A Miami Workers Center complained that the Florida Unemployment Compensation (Reemployment Assistance) Program was inaccessible to people with disabilities and those with limited English skills. In August... Continue reading

TypePad HTML Email Hi Very Disappointed with ATX This is exactly the type of reaction I had when I left ATX. I see that they still have not solved their many problems. I am sure we both expected much better, since CCH supposedly has a good high-end product. However, I now believe that CCH is only using ATX to try to get increased sales. Sage also once justified the purchase of Peachtree in this way. In both cases, I believe the bad handling of low-end products caused many adverse reactions to the entire company. I do not know what type of paradise we might expect from professional tax software. However, Drake gives us something is much better than any tax software paradise that most of us could possibly imagine. Drake does this is by answering support calls in NINE SECONDS OR LESS, even on April 15. It also ONLY employs tech support agents that can solve problems FAST, immediately or a few seconds after you send them your tax return. All this is only $1,500 a year, less discounts. I am sure we have all seen so many wireless (cell) phone signatures that we barely notice them. Howerer, a very long-time friend of mine has the best Verizon wireless phone signature I ever saw: .. sent from my worthless Verizon Wireless Phone, on a network which is no more dependable than two tin cans & a piece of string!... The PBS NewsHour has a post titled Why Paul Krugman, Others Think Reinhart and Rogoff Are Wrong About Debt (government debt limits). Krugman is an economist who favors Keynesian government stimulus spending and no effective government debt limits. Even Keynes later realized he was wrong about the effectiveness of such spending, partly because he personally failed to get an agreement... Continue reading

On 1 October, 2009 cloud accounting program Xero was celebrating 12,000 customers. “Just 12 months ago we had 2,200 customers,” CEO Rod Drury wrote that day on the company blog. In three years it shot up to 135,000 customers, 65,000 in New Zealand alone. How? The secret behind this stratospheric rise was a bold go-to-market strategy that aimed to turn... Continue reading

It’s been almost a year since I (Ian Vacin) left Intuit and put on my Xero T-shirt and oh how great that year has been – beautiful online accounting software, wonderful people, incredible growth and, most importantly, amazing customers. TERIBLE VEND - XERO DEFECT FIXED I over-dramatized above because an associate did not involve me quickly, Vend did not answer in a day and it is an insane time of year for CPAs. Peter Wen, an excellent Xero San Francisco CPA, quickly called and wrote repeatedly. He found a Vend button, next to invoiced sales tax, to quickly and easily delete tax. He also made me recall my 40 year old workaround. Create one billable item for each rate, with no inventory quantity tracking. Use names like VA Sales Tax, NC sales and so forth. Price each at one rate (.07, 08, ...). Enter one, with the invoice total as the quantity. This instantly gives you any tax you need. Right after I realized this I got a nice long email from Nick Houldsworth (nick@vendhq.com), copied to 5 other Vend people. It said Vend will have Tax Groups for Canadian provinces this week and the U.S. tax changes we want soon (no ETA). By then I also realized that U.S. taxes are very different from the uniform GST or VAT taxes in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. We can even use several Vend stores, with an inexpensive Bizelo add-on, for multi- location sales and inventory. I will gladly help others having problems. Try to have more patience than I did. http://www.linkedin.com/groupItem?view=&gid=1415817&type=member&item=229525599&commentID=129720537&report%2Esuccess=8ULbKyXO6NDvmoK7o030UNOYGZKrvdhBhypZ_w8EpQrrQI-BBjkmxwkEOwBjLE28YyDIxcyEO7_TA_giuRN#commentID_129720537

Here is my follow up: Hi Josh I am wildly happy at how quickly you and Xero support respond and what a terrific job everyone there does. I was a QuickBooks insider for about 12 years, with countless fast email exchanges to two CEOs and their top assistants. Despite this, I can guarantee that QuickBooks would not have made an actual video or other correction as fast as you did. Mike Block --------------------------------------- Josh quickly responded Thanks for the great feedback Mike. That's really nice to hear and I'll share that with the team. The video is all fixed now including the contact fields. Kind Regards Josh
