Eighteen months ago, Joey was very tiny! And couldn't walk or talk or tell me he loved me! It's hard to believe any of that was ever true because now he never stops doing all of those things. But that's... Continue reading

I have two quilts that I finished ages ago and gave away to the same family. Last week I borrowed them back so I could take some pictures! My friend's 5-year-old daughter Olivia is a fellow cat lover like me,... Continue reading

I just listed five new quilts in my Etsy shop! This has been a long time coming. I started working on these back in April, with the intention to have them up by, oh, mid-May? Ha! Life obviously got in... Continue reading

It's September again, which means it's time for the DC Modern Quilt Guild's annual charity quilt drive, 100 Quilts for Kids. I had several yards of this blue print that someone gave me a while ago, and I decided this... Continue reading

So I mentioned a few posts ago that I was trying to sort through my fabric with the intent to sell some. My goal was to have it all ready to go by the end of August, which I most... Continue reading

He seems so big to me right now. He's tall and he talks all the time and learns something new every thirty seconds, and sometimes in my head I catch myself thinking about "my two-year-old" and I have to remind... Continue reading

This poor little blog is always the last to know everything. But yep, I'm pregnant! Joey will have a little sibling in January. We're so excited! I'm mostly feeling like myself again, and finally catching up on everything that slipped... Continue reading

Try growing some zinnias in your garden! I've found them easy to grow, they make great cut flowers, and pollinators love them.

Hey look, it's time for my annual spring garden post! Last year, despite my good intentions, my garden really got away from me. When my mom showed up in September, the weeds were taller than the plants, the pots of... Continue reading

YES. THE GRAVEL. What is up with that!!! The fascination just started for Joey last week. So funny to see he's not unique in that.
I really enjoyed this episode! It's easy to find people talking about what inspires them or other parts of the creative process, but the nity gritty business stuff is not usually discussed as openly (that I've seen, at least). It was really interesting to hear what Katharine had to say.

ok also (i have a lot to say about this apparently?!) i saw in one of your older tova posts that you were looking for more indie pattern designers to check out. i don't know if you still are, but i recommend checking out Megan Nielsen and Grainline Studio—both rad designers who make really great wearable patterns.

this is so cute! i've only ever sewed one tova as a practice...i've been wanting to go back and make one for real. i love the fabric you chose. i saw your comment about the seams on the inside and just a tip: you can zig-zag on the edges of the seam allowances to tidy them up and prevent fraying if you don't have a serger. it's not quite as neat as a serger, but it works well enough and looks much better than nothing. that's what i do! and old episodes of parks and rec is never not a good idea.

After spending several days working on two detailed and time-consuming pieces, I wanted to do something quick and easy yesterday, so I made this cute little shirt. I used the Bimaa pattern again, same as for the hoodie I made... Continue reading

Whew! Finished Joey's trench coat and the pants for his Easter outfit. These two patterns (Secret Agent trench and Art Museum trousers) were pretty time-consuming. I kept switching off between them so it felt like I wasn't getting anywhere, but... Continue reading

Hey, day one of KCW is over and I've already managed to complete a garment! I'm so excited. I started with the great Bimaa hoodie pattern and some lime green sweatshirt material I got on clearance at Hancock Fabrics. I... Continue reading

Next week I'm participating in Kid's Clothes Week for the first time, and I'm really excited! It's a simple concept: a bunch of people sign up to spend an hour a day for seven days sewing clothing for your kid.... Continue reading

This morning we woke up to six inches of snow on the ground. It was really pretty, but I'm so over it. Technically it's still winter for three more days, so I guess I can't get too upset, but really,... Continue reading

I finished the quilt top! I'm really happy with it, although it really looks nothing like I'd envisioned at the beginning. I set the blocks with 1" sashing. On Instagram, I think this photo would be tagged #honestcraftroom. Cat sleeping... Continue reading

ok this book is gorgeous, of course, and i love it. but what actually caught my eye in this post is the umbrella prints fabric the books are sitting on, haha! i'm so envious that you have yardage! i adore those heart prints but all i can afford are a few trimmings packs. which of course i'm hoarding and can't figure out what to do with them. do you have plans for the fabric?

I've been playing around lately with Waterlogue, a fun little app for iOS devices. It's pretty simple: insert photo, receive watercolor. I think quilts look especially nice "waterlogued." It makes me wish I could paint watercolors myself...but that's probably not... Continue reading

Another quilt for Joey! (Here's the first.) I wanted him to have a proper baby-sized quilt, and so, at about 35 weeks pregnant, I started on this one. It's a Swirling Medallion quilt from the book Quilting Modern . The... Continue reading
