Thank you for the encouragement--I'm so feeling the late winter blues....I just need a bit of faith that it'll be okay on the other side. It always is!
just a little bit longer
The rule around these parts, I was told, is that you don't open up the hives until a warm day after St. Patrick's Day. But that doesn't mean I can't fret and hover, both of which I've been doing. On warmer days, I watch from nearby as the foragers take a journey here and there to scout it all ...
Congratulations--she's beautiful! Hoping your recovery is fast and easy. (Obviously, that comment comes from someone who's never done it before.) Happy days ahead to you and your family.
And Then She Came
When Augie first saw her he said, "she came out just like I wanted her to." My thoughts EXACTLY. Truly Adele was born Wednesday just after lunch. She was 6 pounds and 11 ounces. We were surprised as everyone as to where the long, dark hair came from. Otherwise, she looks just like Sam but squi...

Lori, I'm using Malabrigo sock--love! (And I'm finished with sock #1!)
Sock Fever
I've got it so bad, it wakes me up in the middle of the night. (Actually, the thing that wakes me up is more likely the deadly combination of overcaffeination, a few after-dinner cocktails and pre-holiday jitters, but whatever.) I started these bad boys on Monday and am working at a fairly good...
I love the idea of a staycation, but I want to go to Naptown even more! Kinda like Brigadoon--if you think it exists, it does!
[10 Tuesday] a perfect vacation
It is still all nanowrimo all the time here, so today's writing prompt is in keeping with the 10 dream vacations theme. You are a worker at the Vacation Planet. Is your planet owned by a corporation or individual interests? What makes your planet so popular for vacations? What is your job? Do yo...
I know what you mean, Kim....kinda scary to think about. But hey, even if you're not into holiday knitting, these little knits would make great baby shower gifts, knitting hostess gifts, wedding gifts....
Christmas is Coming
Which can only mean one thing: The 12 Knits of Christmas, of course!* We'll be mixing it up a little this year, but we love what's ahead and we know you will, too. Third time's the charm? You bet. Fire up those needles, friends. There's knitting to be done. *If you've never received th...
Several of those scenes are very, very familiar! Putting soul (ahem, Soule!) into a wise, old farmhouse takes a staggering amount of work, but dang it, it's *worth* it. Every day I look at our restored original maple floors in the home that's been in my husband's family for 100+ years and feel so lucky. I can see (hear?) your family's pride already--congratulations, Amanda.
family-style
About two hours into our first full day of home ownership, we realized that our vision of family-style home repairs was just that - a dream. My first two hours went something like this: spackle one hole change a diaper (because mama forgot to pack the potty) ma...
I wish you had given me this advice *before* I went to school! Great list!
Ten on Tuesday, Back to School Edition
Today's Ten on Tuesday is an easy one for me: 10 Things You Would Tell a College Freshman. 1. Visit your professors during their office hours. It makes a difference. Office hours are a great time for you to review assignments, ask for extra help, or learn more about a career. Last fall I ha...
Thanks, V. I have a feeling I know a knitter who could help you out....
Spot of Tea
Confession: I don't drink coffee. I quit about a year ago and I don't even miss it. Really. Gradually, over the past 18 months or so, coffee has somehow lost its luster. Which is crazy--sacrilegious, even--because for more years than I can remember, coffee has been one of the shiniest stars ...
Hee. Actually, I'm a plain Jane tea drinker. No sugar, no milk. Yerba mate is my favorite, for shiz, but Angela Macke's (By the Light of Day) Creamy Earl Grey is pretty much heaven on earth. Love green and rooibos, too.
I'm working on a slew of tea cozies for the shop....and soon, tea!

This is a Brown Betty, if that would help you, Zane. Maybe a '6-cup pot'?

Cement board is one of those really great low-maintenance products that is perfect for people who don't want to fuss with the 'real thing'--in our case, it was wood. We wanted to simulate the look of wood siding, which is pretty traditional for the style of building, but seriously--who wants to scrape and paint every two years? (Especially with a westerly facing facade.) Cement board, to my knowledge, isn't really on the "green" end of things technically speaking, but it stands up to time with very little wear and tear from the elements--so really, aren't you being less wasteful in the long haul? Plus, unlike vinyl, if we want to change the color, we can. Without scraping. We sided our own house with it and we love it. It's about three times more expensive than wood, but worth it!
Monday Mindblow
While I knew this day was coming, it's something else entirely to actually see it happen. (Click to embiggen.) Ye olde shoppe is getting one mighty fine facelift. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I forgot to snap a shot yesterday afternoon on my way out the door, but this is still a g...
Thanks, Kim! It's even better in person!
Good Day Sunshine
How's this for bright? Pattern: "Gretel" by Ysolda Teague. Started: Saturday, April 10th, 2010. Finished: Monday, April 12th, 2010. Yarn: Mmmmmalabrigo Merino Worsted in 07 Cadmium, 1 skein. (Oh, how I love you, you luxuriously soft, buttery Merino, you!) Needles: Addi Turbo US 6 (?) 24" ci...
Thanks, Zane! You'll have to wait just a little longer to get your hands on the lusciousness.....the Malabrigo will be here Memorial Day weekened. I've been knitting lots of these samples and stowing them away for when the yarn arrives. Can't wait to see you soon.

I may have started another Madeline Tosh project....
Rekindling An Old Flame: Socks
Vacation knitting all wrapped up, I am now on a mad dash to start--and finish--a bajillion samples before Memorial Day weekend. (Which, I'm happy to remind you, is only nine weeks away.) Summer is the busiest season for business in Leelanau County, and Inish Knits is no exception. We're bring...

You are too sweet. I know what you mean about a roving backload; my stash
was manageable about six weeks ago and then I went on a mini Etsy
spree--yikes! I'll be fooling around on Rav today looking for small project
ideas, too. How about a cowl? Fingerless mitts? Can't wait to see more of
your handspun, girl.
Less Talk, More Wool
Experimented with color in January. "Razor Love" "Almond Blossom" "Montezuma" Up next? Yarn. That is all.
In a side note. Leesh, I didn't realize it was YOU! You went and changed yer name on me, girl. Where have I been for the past six years? D'oh!
Wrap it Up
So there I was, rifling through my cascading tower of knitting, when I discovered there's really only one genre of knitting I've been actively pursuing of late. (That's nothing to say for the eight sweaters, six pairs of socks, three hats and two pairs of fingerless mitts scrunched up in the c...
Most definitely, Alicia! Click on the photo album in the upper left hand corner of the blog (The 12 Knits of Christmas) and the pattern for the scarf is on the page for Week 10. This is very simple--mostly just knitting! Enjoy!

There and Back Again: A Knitter's Tale
Although I haven't spent the last month trudging through the fires of Mordor, I am about as winded as one must be at the end of an epic journey. Since my last check-in, I attended a Fiber Fest (to buy more stuff of course!), dyed 15-ish pounds of BFL, spun five? six? twelve? an unknown number ...
Hi Kathryn!
I plan on having the pillow pattern written by the end of the day---I'll
email it to you. Let me know if you need help in the vintage button
department; my button box is overflowing!

Yes, Sir, May I Have Another?
Another finished project, that is. A pillow with a funky orange-y side, and a (slightly) more mellow green side, sewn together at the sides and bottom, and secured at the top with vintage jelly buttons. Yarn: Noro Iro, 1 skein each in colors #78 and #85. Needles: US 10.5 Size: 16" sq...

hits & misses
So this one was a big ole' miss. Looking at the photo, I know it doesn't look that horrid, awful bad. You'll just have to take my word for it that it was. Truly - Not good. I had attempted to make the Mendocino Sundress for myself (out of the Far, Far Away unicorn fabric). The 'smocking' (tho...
