Suzzallo has always been a library, but it's very reminiscent of a cathedral, isn't it? (That room is just a part of the building – the rest looks like a more typical library.) It's also a designated 'quiet area' – more so than other parts of the library – so it truly is a very peaceful place to be. Wishing you luck with your plants :)

New plants are always exciting! I wish you luck with yours. And yes, about inch plants, I've been very impressed with mine. It was looking very sad at one point, but within a few days of moving it into a brighter area, it perked right up. I think it's my fastest growing plant, too. (And if it makes you feel any better, I have killed many, many plants over the years. Poor things!)

thanks so much, Sera! I hope your year has been going well so far. I'm still writing almost every day, thank you for asking. And I don't currently have other bead colors planned for this new necklace, but could certainly do that – if you have any special requests, feel free to let me know :)

A busy work week. As in, two wholesale orders and a lot of writing. I have always struggled with calling my writing time "work," because I don't earn income from it, and the only person I really have to answer... Continue reading

Hi Tara :) I first read a library copy of Brooklyn about four years ago and loved it, so am happy to finally own a copy so I can revisit it whenever I want to. (I'll sometimes open up a beloved book just to read a scene or two, especially when I'm feeling stuck with my own writing.) I'm very close to finishing My Cousin Rachel and have enjoyed it, but I prefer Rebecca, which I feel is more complex and unpredictable. (Have you read either?) And yes, the necklace is available in silver! I'm glad you like it.

thank you, Chelsey! I was happy with the way the General Tso's chicken turned out. The other two dishes were good but could have used more flavor (my own fault, since I kind of strayed from the recipe). And yes, it very well could become my new tradition :)

This week, in brief: spent an afternoon in the reading room at Suzzallo doing research for a writing project, had tasty meals at Junebaby and Coastal Kitchen, gave my houseplants some TLC, got a rejection letter, watched a few underwhelming... Continue reading

A few things from the first week of the year: Broke my tradition of cooking pad thai by cooking a few Chinese dishes instead: veggie chow mein, fried rice, and General Tso's chicken. Went book shopping and brought home Brooklyn... Continue reading

Hey guys! I'm sorry I've barely blogged this year. Whenever I try to think of something to post, it always ends up feeling too similar to something I've posted before, or feels too frivolous, or forced. But I do still... Continue reading

It was time to finally dig up my lone tomato plant of the year… which left me with a couple dozen green cherry tomatoes on my hands. What do you like to do with green cherry tomatoes? See if they... Continue reading
