Aaaaaahhhhhhhh! Love the Kleybs-centric post. *Kleybs fangirl warm fuzzies*
Oh My Goodness...
Is it really an upset when *everyone* was tapping it to be an upset? JJ somehow gave up a 4-1 lead in the first to lose the set 75. She mounted a bit of a comeback down 0-4 in the second but Kleybs was able to steady herself, crack the shit up out of Steph, Victoria, and I, and take the matc...
Ummm... Your third paragraph. What? The fuck? Oy.
Graduation Day.
It's 2pm, I'm on the couch in my pajamas staring at a pile of toasty laundry trying decide what I need to pack for my week-long sojourn to San Diego. It's stressing me out already. But then I remembered I can keep procrastinating by summarizing my last three days covering Stanford. It was a bl...
Wait.... does this mean no more shots of Corretja on my tv?
Suddenly I am far less okay with this.
I Am Ok With This.
Thanks for the memories, Miles. Hello...(hopefully)... KILLER! I haven't had a whole bunch of time to digest the information but my gut reaction is this: It's weird timing given the fact that the USO, Andy's favorite Slam, is in less than two months. But if he indeed is able to land Kill...
Agreed. Then again, I also didn't see what the fuss was about when Serena was shopping and hanging out at the beach when she was rehabbing her knee, so...
My only concern with Rafa going is that he's been known to be a bit of a jinx for his football teams. :/
Vamos!
The Rafa-less Armada is in France awaiting their Davis Cup tie. I don't think they have tennis on the brain quite yet. So cute. Tip of the cap to you, Spain. You were the better team. No word on whether Rafa's going to hop a plane for the final. But you'd be an idiot to bet against it....
It will be strange to wonder whose half of the draw Fed will fall on and have ppl worrying again about potential Fedal semis.
All Shook Up.
Roger's #3 for the first time since November 2003, and A-Rod drops to #9. And for all his hard work, Halpert got a 1 spot boost. This tennis is a harsh-ass sport. JJ's #2. That's all you need to know.
She said, "Hey Billie, I got you."
Serena has talked on more than one occasion about how much BJK has inspired her and even pushed and challenged her to beat BJK's record. I seriously doubt Serena was trying to disrespect BJK.
Pic This: "Where Da Party At? Girls On Their Way, Where Dat Bacardi At?"
Best martini shaker, evah! A chip and dip plate fit for a queen. Cute. I have joke-lock. Too cute.
Ditto re: the USO (But make that "career Golden slam" - he won the gold in Beijing, 'member?). I won't even be greedy - one USO win would be enough. :)
I love Rafa's "you gonna find a way" comment. I know he was talking about grass, but if he brings that attitude to the summer hardcourt season and manages his schedule properly...
Where There's A Will, There's A Way.
It is finished. What more can be said about Rafa? He did what he does. At this point in his career he virtually impossible to beat when he is healthy and full of confidence. He had a respectable hard court season before going on a tear over the last 3 months. Since stepping foot in Euro...
Whot?!
Mind. Blown.
"Is That A Huge Unavoidable Iceberg In Your Pants, Or Are You Just Happy To See Me?"
Feli and Fernando. You just can't make this shit up. At least now we know who would be the inner spoon. As if there was any doubt.

What To Fuel The Fire?
Interesting segment from French Open Tonight with S.L. Price, who did a piece on Justine (that I haven't read but would like to) in SI. It's worth a watch.
Totally agree re: the negative Fedal baggage. It's gotten to the point where I dread their matches.
I was ambivalent about this match (don't particularly care for either player) and was surprised at how bad I feel for Fed fans, no doubt b/c this match brought up a lot of the feelings I had last year as a Rafa fan.
Robin Soderling: Bridging the Divide Between Fed and Rafa Fans, One Upset At A Time.
On the whole, and to speak in broad generalities, tennis fandom these days is pretty much divided down the line of Fed fans and Rafa fans. Sure, your favorite player might be someone else entirely, but when Fed and Rafa play each other, most tennis fans, particularly the die hards, have a v...
I didn't think it was possible to dislike Huber any more than I did after the Fed Cup thing, but... yep. Ugh. Just? Shut uuuuuppp, woman.
"I Have Common Courtesy."
The Black and Huber saga continues. And it is hilarious.
Didn't even realize I wanted Franny to win so badly until she did. But seeing her joy after the match that continued into her press conference... I've been smiling all day. As someone whose fave player treats the SF as a right, it's nice to have a reminder of what a big fucking deal a slam SF actually is.
I'll Have What She's Having.
Gotta love it. Week two kicks off at RG and we're finally getting some stories that are heartwarming. Tour stalwart, Franny, finally makes her first Slam semifinal at 29 years old. Her veteran game of mixing spins and angles seemed to confuzzle Caro. A 62 63 drubbing? I think Fran mig...
Yeah, well. I've seen that sequence of events so many times that it's pretty easy to predict how each step of the tired dance will go. Guessing you have too, considering the similarities in our edu/work backgrounds. :/
You Like Tennis? ME TOO!
Awesome stuff once against from Steve Tignor, who writes a piece on what it's like to watch matches courtside in the Bullring. Not only does he do a fantastic job transporting you there, but he adds some interesting insight into the two matches he watched: Sveta vs. Petko and Muzz vs. Chel...
*recoils and looks at vetmama with horror* I don’t even know who you ARE anymore. :p
Anyway I’m totally on board the Tignor love train. He writes beautifully about the GAME, no schtick, no potshots, and *gasp* actually seems to like tennis and cares enough to get the details right (apparently these aren't requirements for tennis journos – who knew?). Reading his stuff reminds me of why I love tennis in the first place.

Pretty sure it's a Nike/Jordan thing.
(Besides, Fed only does gold lettering. :))
You Be The Jurge
A perfectly nice interview with Fed on Tennis Channel. But I do have one observation: Either Fed is a really big Michael Jordan fan, or he's back to wearing his records on his clothes.
She is so refreshing (and I mean that in the sincere, non-cheesy sense of the word). Like Bepa sans the emotional sloppiness. My girl crush grows by the tweet.
Now, I just gotta catch one of her matches.
Pulp Fiction and Bloc Party? We're BFFs.
The Andrea Petkovic awesomeness campaign continues, thanks in large part to our very own Maz. Read Andrea's impromptu Twitter Q&A after the jump. She is charming the pants off all of us.

Idiot Development Program.
Sure. Why not. Go play Warsaw and Nice the week before Roland Garros, a tournament that you are expected to do well in, while you've played impacted schedules and are not 100%. Why not! This can't backfire AT ALL. I get it, responsibilities, commitment, "I'm Polish", whatever. Lose i...
Well-said.
Air Quotes: Sigh. True.
“Am I favorite to win at Roland Garros? I was last year and I lost.” -- Rafa, after striking out Fed.
Bwah! Awesome.
I went back and looked at the Sod-tagged posts here and ...LMAO. Guess he didn't realize that you were just yoking.
(And yes, this makes me like Sod a little more)
Game On.
It is on like Donkey Kong.
Agree w/ you re the uncharacteristic hotness of Fed in this pic.
Mirka's 32, but I know what you mean.
You'd Think These Were Taken After His Loss. They Weren't.
The Family Federer wandering the streets of Rome. I have no doubt that Mirka's jeans are not from the Gap. But I swear we have the same jeans. Aw. Proud Gammy.
Heh. Welcome to the Kleybs side!
"She's Like...The Heidi of the WTA..."
So...this was recorded two weeks ago. I'm really sorry. I just had a really tough time cleaning up the sound. BUT on this FD Podcast, we talk about Muzzard's slump, why a certain someone keeps ragging on the WTA, why clay is fucking awesome, and we talk about what our "walk-out" song would b...
Exactly. 3 months is pretty much the norm (at least for all the preggo women I've known) b/c of the risk of miscarriage before that time.
In any event, best wishes to MJS and My Two Dads for a safe and uneventful pregnancy.
So...I Have Some Good News and Some Bad News...
The good news is that I'm having a baby! The bad news is, it's not yours. Rumors have been swirling on the internets and the Spanish tabloids for weeks that Feli knocked up his girlfriend, Maria Jose Suarez. But without confirmation from the spermer or the spermee, we were left just giggling ...
Yeah, the pissed off/ambush theory makes sense. From what I've read, she's been preggo for like 15 minutes...isn't it more common to wait until at least the second trimester to start announcing it to the world and telling everyone that you're better off without your sorry piece of shit ex BF? At least that's how they do it on Maury ...

*scrolls back up to shirtless Fed pic and falls out laughing* You're right!
And LMAO at how Ernie is all "Fuck Effort" in matters of grooming. I could almost smell him through the tv screen. But hey, if it means more wins for him, I'm on board.
It's Ok. You Can Breathe Now.
I love how Ernie isn't even trying anymore. Could the guy look like any more of a scrub these days? Well the scrubby one took out Fed in the first round of Rome, 26 61 75. That's like, 500 tournaments straight now that Fed hasn't made it past the quarterfinals. Or is it three? I don't kno...
Maybe Vee's status was truly up in the air. But it was pretty clear to me that the only way MJF was gonna get Serena to Fed Cup was by tricking her into thinking it was part of some Green Day promo event.
"Dissent's Not Treason But They Talk Like It's The Same."
Listen, Liezel. We get it. You're proud to be an American. On some delusional level (that you make readily apparent to everyone who will listen) you think that you are more "American" than born and bred Americans. I'm not saying you are or you aren't. I'm just saying that the fact that...
