You're lucky you still have your TI. My mom sold mine at a thrift store. And threw away the tapes I was using to write my Double Dragon clone.
TI Basic, how I miss thee. OLD CS1!
on the importance of making time to play the games you like with the people you love
In the introduction to my short collection of gaming essays called Games Matter, I wrote: Of all the things that make me a geek, nothing brings me more joy, or is more important to me, than gaming. I am the person I am today because of the games I played and the people I played them with as I ...

Video of my reading from PAX Prime: Triple Word Score
While browsing Reddit during my morning coffee, I came across this: I remember how much I liked writing this story for LA Daily, but until GenCon, I'd never read it in public. Both times I've read it, though, it's gone over very well, so I'll probably add it - at least temporarily - to my pe...

I'm a bad TMBG fan. I knew young and foolish/ old and foolish was a quote from something, but I couldn't even remember if it was a movie or a video game or what.
Very. Bad. Fan.
From the Vault: "Foster is down!"
Today is the first day in a week that I didn't get up at 4am to go to work. I really wish I could say what I've been working on, because it's awesome, but I have to keep that information in a secure location for at least a few more days. It was pretty great that I got to sleep late - I rolled ou...
I was late for school that day, listening to my walkman as I rode my bike to 6th grade. I remember slamming on my brakes and listening closer. I remember seeing the stunned expressions on the drivers of the cars going by, and knowing they'd just heard the same news I had. I even remember Mrs. Stone being mad at me for telling such a lie as an excuse for being late, just before the news came over the intercom.
We were a gifted and talented class, so it hit us all pretty hard.

On January 28, 1986, I was home from school with the flu. I remember that, no matter what I did, I couldn't get warm, so I was sitting in a hot bath when my mom knocked on the bathroom door. "There was an accident with the space shuttle," she said, in the same voice she used when she told me th...
Like they have to. It's aired on CBS, which is owned by the same parent company as Paramount.
The Wheaton Recurrence
It's Sunday afternoon as I write this. I can't publish this manually, because if I've read my call sheet correctly, I'm currently playing Dr. Isaac Parrish on Eureka. If we're on schedule, I'm working in a scene with Erica, Colin, and Neil. If my experience on the show so far is any indication, ...

As some of you know, for the last six weeks, I've been working night and day on my PAX Keynote, which I deliver in 176 hours. It's been a long and sometimes agonizing road but after intensely bouncing drafts back and forth with Andrew this week, I have a draft that I can begin polishing. This me...
Of course, Wil will just tell her "You. Me. Drinks. 8pm." And Sheldon will have another reason to hate Wil. };-)>

The first appearance of Evil Wil Wheaton on The Big Bang Theory is airing again tonight, so I thought I'd gather up all the posts I wrote while working on it in one place: leveling up while geeking out on the set of the big bang theory I remember being in drama school in my early twenties, and ...
:D Proud-dad moments are the best. My son's entering high school next year and he's going to be in the robotics competitions. Proud-geek-dad moments aplenty in my future. :D

Question referring back to the prior Q&A:
Did you get to bring Nolan with you to be designated pingponger for you this time?

A large number of us in the Denver area have felt that way for some time, so when the RPGA stopped writing classics, we took over.
Character-provided events are alive and well here. :)

If deadlines were dragons, I'd be in the lair with nothing left but my trusty sword and a relentless determination to slay the fucker and take his heart back to The Adventure Hook Tavern as a souvenir. So in place of a proper post, here's what I did this weekend: I'm running a 4e dungeon delve...
Tim's Cascade Style! *drool* Gods, I haven't had those since I left WA and came to CO. Boulder chips are good too, but just not the same.
The Cooper-Hofstadter Coffee Table Proof
(Image by me. Click to embiggen. Please link to this post if you reuse it.) As I walked from the comic shop set down to the bowling alley set today, I passed the set for Leonard and Sheldon's apartment, which is in the center of the stage. I gawked at it the way you do when you're a fan of th...

Because I am too busy for a proper post, I offer a very brief trip report: I went to Seattle at the end of last week, where I not only got to spend three days with my friends from Penny Arcade, I finally got to take a tour of the Wizards of the Coast offices after years of being invited to check...
I just started a thread on the STO forums, too. Hopefully we'll get a lot of creative responses and not just "throw Wesley out an airlock"

Wil Wheaton defended Starbase 24 by himself, with a phaser rifle.
Wil Wheaton disables his personal shield because it's too wussy.
Wil Wheaton measures his day by how many Gorn he bench-pressed.
An Orion fired a disruptor at Wil Wheaton and the PIRATE'S molecules flew apart.
Wil Wheaton was bored on the plane ride to PAX, so he memorized Memory Alpha.
Wil Wheaton doesn't need bridge officers.

I'd be cooler if you came to our con. Andy was our second choice, because we couldn't get you. :)
We got Sean K. Reynolds (Paizo/ Pathfinder) this year for the same reason.

for those of you wondering what time it is...
(Thanks to my friend C., who made this when I needed a bit of cheering up.)
The term you're looking for is "lemon." No, I don't know why. I wouldn't even know what, but my ex was WAY too far into anime.

This post has nothing to do with its title, but after staring at this for 20 minutes trying to come up with one, I just grabbed the first song title I could find. Thanks, The Damned. Once again, you come through when I need you. We've had a drought in Southern California for so long now, even a ...

From the Vault: a design flaw in the otherwise perfect basket
Last night, I stood in front of the open refrigerator and thought to myself, "You know what would go good with this vegetarian chili? That Oaked Arrogant Bastard!" I reached for it, applying my -3 DEX modifier, like you do. A minute later sent the following text message to Anne: "Hey, we're out ...
I love that Nolan's just as geeky as you. I need to get my son to read this one so he doesn't feel like the only teenaged geek on Earth.

I still think it would be a great excuse for you to come onto TBBT again. The guys start playing the game in their birds of prey, sneering at the losers with English names for Klingon ships, when all of a sudden a Galaxy-class cruiser warps in and blows them to smithereens. The last thing we see is Wil's face underlit by the glow of a monitor: "Game over, Moonpie."

Most excellent. That's SO going into a book, I can already tell.

I'm doing something fun and geeky this morning, but I need to close some tabs before I can really get into it, so I'd like to tell you all that John Scalzi's book Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded, for which I wrote the introduction, is now available in trade paperback. I genuinely loved this book, ...

today only ... you ... can ... get ... SHATNERQUAKE ... forfree!
When I was working on Leverage this summer, I spent quite a bit of quality time in Powell's world of books. On one of my trips into the store, I saw a little book with a fantastic cover that I knew I would be buying before I even laid a hand on it. That book was called ... Shatnerquake. I sent a...
