I was late for school that day, listening to my walkman as I rode my bike to 6th grade. I remember slamming on my brakes and listening closer. I remember seeing the stunned expressions on the drivers of the cars going by, and knowing they'd just heard the same news I had. I even remember Mrs. Stone being mad at me for telling such a lie as an excuse for being late, just before the news came over the intercom.
We were a gifted and talented class, so it hit us all pretty hard.
