Mending Fences in Miami
It was Kumbaya Monday at the AmericanAirlines Arena practice facility. Clarifications were on tap. And didn't-really-mean-it-that-ways were a dime a dozen. Ladies were allowed in free until the first "purity" or "resolve" was uttered from Coach Erik Spoelstra's post-practice comments. Which, o...
Yeah, and it's bye bye Lebron!

LeBron isn't signing here anyway, you chromosome-deficient fool.
Raptors 111, Heat 103
Observations from Wednesday's 111-103 loss to the Raptors at Air Canada Centre: The injury absence of Michael Beasley in the second half showed just how fragile this production is. There is a reason why there has been a season-long dance with .500. How much more can Erik Spoelstra ask of Dwya...
Bulls aren't a BAD team. They are 7th seed in the playoffs. They're not good or anything, I'd say they're about average. They have exactly a .500 record.
Posted by: Chris | January 27, 2010 at 10:28 PM
Not only are they not a bad team, they've won 8 out of 10 and will be in the playoffs, possibly ahead of the Heat.
Strangely enough, they're led by a 2nd year guy who Bulls management had the good sense to give major minutes to in his rookie season, even though the guy whose job he took was a better player. Now, they're reaping the benefits of that move as Rose is blossoming into a star. Mindblowing concept.
On the other hand, they are impure and have a major grit deficit.

So Ira takes some slight jab at Beasley for not being able to contain O'Bryant (who from the box score has a DNP), but nary a word Bosh and Bargnani taking turns lighting up Saint Grit like a Christmas tree. Sure.

Christ, Bargnani just went by Haslem from damn near the 3 point line.
ASK IRA: Is Amare a better fit than Bosh?
Q: Do you think Amare would be a better fit alongside Wade than Bosh? -- Chris. A: No. I think there are too many red flags with Stoudemire health-wise and I'm not sure he'd be as willing as Bosh to play center. But, then again, Chris might not be available. If it was as simple as taking one or ...
I don't get why this is so difficult. Beasley is a 2nd overall pick with 2 more years left on his contract after this season. Haslem is an undrafted role player on an expiring contract.

You can't place a price or term on grit and purity.

5th Seede in the East with 4 teams ahead of us and 1-5 Seed in the West adds up to 8 or 9 teams with a higher or the same SEEDING in the league. 9 out of 30 is not mediocre guys. Why can't you show some love fer the team that is playing it heart out?
Posted by: just saying... | January 27, 2010 at 01:09 PM
Seeding? 9 out of 30? Are you serious with this stuff? We have the 16th best record out of 30 teams. Stop trying to skew the matter. This is a middle of the road team and will remain so until Riley scores in the offseason or wheels and deals by Feb. 18.

"I'm ready to get back that spot," Chalmers said prior to Monday's game against the Cavaliers. "The team needs me back there. I want my spot back. I think there's a great chance I can get it back."
---------------
People. Hell. Ice water.
Chalmers and Beasley and contrasting views
So, let's see, Michael Beasley doesn't play during crunch time in Monday's one-point loss to the Cavaliers, and the following day, coach Erik Spoelstra offers, "You know how we do things here: It's about winning. It's about winning, period. And everything else falls under that." Yet Mario Chalme...
Question:
Once Clev shutdown the Haslem-Wade pickNroll, why didn't the Heat do what EVERY other team does and drag fatassss Shaq out 23feet, instead of letting him sit under the basket?
Posted by: FMB(Heat reflects Spo - SADLY) | January 26, 2010 at 02:12 PM
That would require an adjustment. You're asking too much of Spoelstra.
ASK IRA: Is Chalmers' fate third-string?
Q: Chalmers is overpaid. He isn't an NBA-caliber player. -- David. A: The one thing Mario isn't is overpaid, with his minimal contract. But Monday was very, very telling, with Chalmers held out of the second half. For once, the Heat made a stand with his playing time. But why not play Arroyo in...
but he isnt. there is no rhyme or reason to his decisions. Except to remove beasley at a certain time no matter what.
He uses stupid zen catch phrases, yet doenst hardly ever answer a question directly..i.e. what specific plays he wants, either on offense or defense. Just gibberish.
Posted by: doctorb | January 26, 2010 at 11:48 AM
Exactly. It's one cliche or line of BS after another. How the hell do you justify taking your former starter out of the rotation, to be replaced by the guy whose job he took and outplayed for nearly a month straight? Continuity, my ass.
Identity!

I just don't agree with you on Spo's rotations meaning something. I believe Beasley is far better than Haslem, and should play 36 minutes per game at power forward and power forward only. I can back this up with facts and statistics if you like. I believe Jamaal Magloire should be our primary back-up center. I believe Carlos Arroyo is our best back-up point guard. I believe Dorell Wright should get more, consistent minutes. I don't believe the fact that Spo misuses any of those guys is an indictment on them as players, but rather on Spo as a coach.

This.
For all the talk in the media of how Spoelstra is incredibly well-prepared and learned in the game, why is it he continues to place lineups on the court that handicap the team and make things noticeably more difficult than needed? Then, Wade bails him out and some act as if the coaching acuity was brilliant. Bullsh*t. There are hardly ever any adjustments made. For Christ's sake, we got stymied for a f*cking zone defense twice earlier in the season. Give me a break.

Doc I meant Mike Brown. Both Woodson and Brown are better then Spo. The real sad thing for us Heat Fans is I believe both the Mike's are average coaches.
Posted by: nolmt112 | January 25, 2010 at 11:47 PM
They are average. I don't think that highly of either. However, both of them can put a coherent lineup on the court most of the time and make simple adjustments ...which would put them light years ahead of Spo.
I keep reading all this crap about how well prepared Spoelstra is. Where the hell is it during most games?
Cavaliers 92, Heat 91
Observations from Monday's 92-91 loss to the Cavaliers at AmericanAirlines Arena: The second quarter was as riveting one-on-one as you can get during five-on-five, with LeBron James scoring 20 in the period and Dwyane Wade 17. James' 20 points tied Eddie House and Jamal Crawford for the most ...
I am willing to bet Riley gives him a chance next year with the new and improved roster. I think he stays.

Mike Woodsen team has improved their record each year he has been coach. His team is now a force in the east.
How can you put him in same sentence with Spotard?
Posted by: doctorb | January 25, 2010 at 11:18 PM
I think he meant Mike Brown and the shot was as to why it takes him an entire half to adjust the defense to get the ball out of Wade's hands ...cause the story is the same the last 3 or 4 times we've played Cleveland.

It really just sunk in that, no matter what free agency or trade boon we score, there's still a huge mark against this team. How far can you go with a coach who can't or simply refuses to make simple adjustments?

We don't need another scorer on the floor to give the defense something to worry about. We need to embrace our identity.
