Sounds like almost nobody else complained, if only 29 complaints were received. I called in about half a dozen times to report new, separate spates of fireworks, until the nine o'clock hour rolled around and my bit of West Altadena degenerated into Little Kosovo. For two hours, there were nearly continuous illegal fireworks going off all around my house. This year seemed to have an equivalent number of illegal fireworks as compared to past years, only they were deployed within a much, much more concentrated period of time. About 11:30 pm, I went outside to "enjoy" the gunpowder fumes. Amazing the money that a low-income money will pour into these things...

Many thanks to the LASD - it got to the point last night that the dispatcher knew me by my first name. I would not have called at all, save for seeing this piece. If the call I made after hearing one of many new bouts of fireworks go off was actually responded to, my neighborhood had a *lot* of patrols last night. Things do seem quieter this year.

The resistance to "Toilet to Tap" recycled water is a sad thing. After all, *all* water has been recycled billions of times since it was created. Given your druthers, what would *you* do with 250,000 gallons/day of incredibly pure water? Most likely not pump it into the ground... Locally, the LADWP water treatment plant alongside the I5 provides lots of such purple-piped water to Glendale for irrigation, and up into Scholl Canyon, where a huge pipe sits capped off, waiting for the day when Pasadena officials finally see the light and use this precious resource. Until then, the remainder of that recylced/reclaimed water is dumped into the Los Angeles River, to the delight of so many critters, including the humans finally allowed to kayak through it.

The flyer from the Sheriff's Department says that the crime was committed on May 31, 2013. The flyer, which is full of grammatical errors, was created on June 12 2013. Apparently, it was distributed to the media on June 17, 2013. And this is news. What the heck?

I'm glad the good guys went in heavy, as the photo above demonstrates. Better to stay alive, than to fall from a banger's bullet. The use of multiple flash/bang grenades was a bit of a surprise to unsuspecting nearby locals, though. I live on the next street over, but only a couple of hundred feet from the house in question. Woke me up, that's for sure!
