Congratulations and best of luck at SI! Thanks for all the great blogposts here over the years. Right now Kings of Leon's Sex on Fire is playing on my radio and I start thinking about Fernando Verdasco and Aussie Open 09. All because of you and this wonderful blog.
Programming Alert: Major Label Debut.
And if I made a fool, if I made a fool, if I made a fool On the road, there's always this And if I'm sewn into submission I can still come home to this Man. The world is weird. And sometimes, it can surprise you. I've been hired by SI.com as a contributing blogger. This post has been, oddl...
All commentators have been bitching about the top 3 seeds losing early, but all quarter finalists are seeded in the top 15. Compare with the men's quarter finals where there is two unseeded players, Chela and Fognini. Sure, with Serena out the WTA doesn't have anything remotely similar to ATP's top 3 players, but it has lots of depths.
Quarter For Your Thoughts.
Here are your quarterfinal matchups for the ladies. Let's be real. This is pretty fucking badass: Let's cut some fuckin' bitches, you fuckin' bitches. (Pics: Getty, Reuters, AP)
As a Swedish Ana fan living in Estonia since many years it's a bit annoying that all Swedish players, Estonian player and Ana are in the very same part of the draw. But I agree, it is a good draw for Ana. Azarenka is almost the favorite to win this thing if she is healthy, but it is very possible that she will retire somewhere before the 4th round.
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
I'm on a train from Bern to Paris but the Roland Garros draw is out so I thought I'd try and do this post by email thing. So yeah, the draw is out. I'm assuming you know where to find it (read: RG website), though if someone wants to post them in the comments feel free to do so. Rafa and Andy...
Thank you for your advise and surprising knowledge about where I will feel at home. Much appreciated.
And yes, I was exaggerating, but Italy and Spain are the only two countries in Europe I've been to where ordering in resturants or asking very simple questions to shopkeepers in English often can be a problem. My experience of course, didn't know it was so sensitive.
EuroTrip.
Hopping on a flight to Madrid in, oh, three hours. I'll only be hitting the Madrid tournament for a day or two and then off to Barcelona for some vacationing. All that is to say, blogging/tweeting will be light until I can figure out connectivity issues. But don't you fret you weirdo FD addic...
Have fun! Barcelona is a wonderful city. The bad thing with Spain (and Italy) compared to the rest of Europe, is that people don't speak English, like at all.

I think she looks a bit like Dinara.
Morocco, not Monaco.
Here's Lookin' At You, Kid.
That's Nadia Lalami. She's 20 years old. She was born in Casablanca, Morocco. She's currently ranked #497. Prior to this week she had played four WTA matches in her career, all first round losses in Monaco. She beat top seeded Rezza today to become the first Moroccan woman to ever get to a...
Or the goalscorer intercepted the ball from the other team and scored without passing it. Or it was an own goal.
At Least You're Resting.
Moose is out of Barcelona after getting an MRI on his right elbow and being advised to take 4-5 days rest. You know what that means: VIDEO GAMES!!!! Luv ya, nerd. (Pics: AP, Andy Murray's Twitter)
Thank you CNote for touring the world bringing us Ana pics and reports! To answer the question in your twitter tagline, "yes, we are jealous, but also very grateful".
Ana Ivanovic Gets Pissed: A Compendium.
Ana had a successful day at the office but a rough day with the umpires. Her singles match was riddled with questionable calls and her doubles match saw Ivanorazzi get broken in the second set on an overrule from the chair. Ana was...not pleased. But as Petko's facial expressions show, a pi...
I have to agree with JAS as well, tenniswise Ana is looking pretty good, but mentally she still has lots of things to deal with. This was a very winnable match, but when things didn't go her way in the beginning she got more and more negative, used the on court coaching to moan instead of focusing on what she should do. Sometimes she totally disappeared from the match, like in the two first games of the second set. She has to man up and keep her emotions under control.
Barf.
Mono fought off some sort of virus or food poisoning to end Ana's inspired run in Indian Wells, 64 76. It was, to use a technical tennis term, a bummer. All credit to Mono. She was clearly struggling physically but once the point started she wasn't missing off either wing and she was runnin...
Nevermind the court, Eurosport will be broadcasting and it is 20.00 in my timezone! Couldn't be better! Ajde Ana!
IW 2011: Tuesday OOP
"Nah, man. They're on Court 2." Look, I get that people are annoyed that JJ and Ana were put first on Stadium 2. Actually...no, I don't get it. Look at the WTA lineup on Stadium and tell me which match you'd put on Court 2. Oh, what's that? You have a suggestion? Well you're full of shit...
Wonderful pics, looking forward to more from this year's IW.
The 10 Best IW Pictures Taken By Steph, According To...Steph.
To really appreciate the awesomeness of these pics, you need to click on them. You can thank me later. Well done, Steph. (Pics: Forty Deuce)
Nice ones, the "Ana playing football" looks like three junior high bullies playing catch with some poor kid's belongings.
Who is the blond girl in the golfcart video? Vika?
Five Awesome Videos I Captured At Indian Wells.
Nole playing soccer in 2008. Nole makes Viktor walk like a dog. Apologies for the cackling. But you would have, too. Tracey and I say goodbye to Marat after he played his last career match at Indian Wells. Tracey, being awesome, makes him smile. In part of a long-running series of ...
Who is the one to the far left? Pironkova?
Pic This: Ooooooooh. So Oriflame's a Growth Hormone?
That would at least explain how Domi is taller than Dani. (Pic: WTA Site)
Mixed breed, mostly cocker spaniel. :)
Pic This: How We Got Here.
Are we really already at Championship weekend. I have to say, this whole experience has gone incredibly fast. But for all the tennis I've seen over the past four weeks all across Australia, from Perth, to Sydney, to Melbourne, I have to say that in all honesty... I AM SO NOT SICK OF IT. This...
Great pictures! The sweatmark on Kim's back looks exactly like my dog.

Very nice piece! But this green shirt thing with Zoran, I'm pretty sure the Eurosport commentators said Clijsters uncle is attending and he is wearing green pants every match to give her luck. Have all tennis relatives gone green or did the eurosport commies mix it up?
Yay! I Got To Write About Petko!
You can read it here. Click lots. (Pic: Getty)
It was really amazing, woke up and started watching when it was 5-5 in the 3rd. Unlike the Isnut marathon the tennis was great and varied. Should have been on Laver, or have Aussie Open adapted Wimbledons policy of only good-looking players on centre court? Hope Schiavone has some gas left in the tank for her match against Caro.
That's How We Do.
Four hours and 46 minutes. That's the longest women's match in Grand Slam history and it was played today, though to say it was "played" seems a complete misrepresentation of what actually happened when Sveta and Fran stepped onto Hisense Arena (YES IT WAS HISENSE) at 3:22pm in front of a sca...
She should finally get some sponsors to provide her with adequate equipment. Aga always looks mildly annoyed at a tennis court, no matter what happens. Best poker face in the WTA.
Welcome Back, Aga.
And *this* is why you ALWAYS catch an Aga match if you can.
I'd say USO 09 as well, first time she lost in the first round of a slam, and back then everything felt pitch black. This time it feels like she is making progress, she didn't play horribly, and there is still a whole season ahead of her where I believe she can pick up a title or two and do some good results at slams.
I'm also very impressed with how she conducted herself at the net and in the presser afterwards. Go Ana, win Pattaya!
She Rules. 'Nuff Said.
What do you say after that? No really. I've been staring at this blank screen for the past hour and all I can think is "What am I supposed to say?" My favorite player came into this tournament with a lot of hope and just played a gutty match against a game opponent, saved match point after ...
Also, is that a bottle of water in Draganas hand instead of a coffee?
Punky Brewster.
Ana debuted her new Adidas practice kit this afternoon and I'm a big fan. Love the white, green, pink, and black. Clean, crisp, and a bit future-punky. Also, it makes her look even thinner, if that's possible. Yup. The abs are taped at the moment. Luckily she's not due to play until Tue...
I had quite high hopes for Anci in AO this year (QF) after Linz and Bali, but now with the injury and possible meeting with Cljisters in 4th round my expectations is back to hope she survives the first round. Oh why did you have to laugh so much during Hopman Cup Ana and why couldnt the draw gods put you in Wozzies or JJs part of the draw??

Today he was clearly ill, sweating like hell, still beat Gulbis in straights, and Gulbis played pretty well. According to the commies he had four days of off-season. Hope he will take a little break after AO and don't play anything until IW.
Bagel Me At Your Own Risk.
Rafa's under the weather and reportedly on antibiotics but Lukas Lacko put together some inspired tennis to bagel Rafa in the second set of their match. Rafa still won, though. I know, right? (Pics: AP)
Congratulations, very well deserved!
Chicago Politics At Its Finest.
That one's for DonkeyGrooming. You guys voted this here little rinky dink website (I mean seriously, I don't even have a real URL and I use a fucking Typepad template as a web design) 2010's Best Tennis Blog, as awarded by On The Baseline. I am humbled and I will try to do you good in 2011.
Sam did show up, but Francesca was awesome. It is my favourite slam final for the women during 2010. Not that the competiton has been difficult the last couple of years.
Also, the pic of Ana stretching in the year in review post may be the best pic ever in the history of photography.
Required Reading
Rating the top Slam performers. Boris is disappointed in Moose and Falcon. In case anyone was wondering. I guess having "barbies" on Christmas means a completely different thing in Australia. FoxSports continues to annoy the crap out of me with lists like "Who got the most gift-wrapped season"...
I'd like to read it as well. Sure he didn't do much right, but reading about his reasoning would be interesting.
