Thank you Felicia, thank you so much for not turning a blind eye.
Tale of three kitties: Is one waiting for you?
Since Daphne posted the photo of the two kittens at Virgin Olive, Felicia Deal of Winter Park, who found them, has been able to adopt them out to loving homes. BUT now Felicia, who is a veterinarian technician and is trying to reduce the feral cat population in her neighborhood, has found three...
This person is a coward. I hope that he gets a judge willing to set an example. Given todays standard, expect a slap on the wrist and possibly a starting postion in the NFL.
Man arrested video shows cruelty to kitten
This is just horrible. From The Associated Press: An Arizona man was arrested after authorities say they watched a video of him apparently trying to feed a kitten to a python and later killing the feline by drop-kicking it. Deputies arrested 28-year-old Jeremy Tuffly at his home in Mesa on Sept....
I agree Juju, the human tendancy to apply sterotypes goes beyond our own species.
and it truely befuddles me.
Just with humans, black, white and tuxedo cats and dogs are some of the most loving and loyal companions you could ever have.
Take home some love in a black fur coat
Because we know black and black-white cats are the ones most often overlooked, CATS-CAN, Inc. cat rescue is presenting a special Black Cat & Kitten Adoption Event. Come to the Oviedo Petsmart on Red Bug Lake Drive in Oviedo on Sept. 12 & 13 from 12 to 5 p.m. and take home some love wrapped u...
poor simian brothers. you can almost feel their sadness by that picture.
Animals feel. Animals have emotion and animals have a soul.
to doubt this is to doubt your own humanity.
Police clear monkey in couple's deaths
The pet spider monkey found standing guard near the body of a College Park woman had nothing to do with her death, or that of her boyfriend, police told Sentinel reporter Bianca Prieto in this story. Officers found Kathryn Whitson, 72, dead in the bedroom with Amos, the pet spider monkey (seen...
KMF,
Ill first start off, by stating i am no PETA supporter. This organization needs to refocus its efforts a little(ok a LOT), but.they do offer insight to some very disturbing trends in the food industry. They are able to do this due to their size.
anyway,
research "factory farms". Stay away from PETA sites if you want, there are plenty of other non PETA sites that all state the plain facts of how meat lands on your table.
i, too love meat. I also like to know where it comes from. We as meat eaters, should be grateful for the animals that gave their lives for us to eat and be healthy. Some basic respect and compassion should be shown.
cramming 1000s of cows pigs and chickens into cramped qtrs to save $ is not an ethical practice imho.
regardless,
agreed, PETA is at it again.
PETA shames fat people with 'Save the Whales' billboard in Jacksonville
PETA is putting a new spin on the Save the Whales campaign. And it has nothing to do with aquatic creatures. PETA billboards that just went up in Jacksonville take aim at the last segment of the population it's still legal to discriminate against: Fat people. OK, we all know that PETA has nev...
Jacobsen,
Thank you for taking the extra time to care.
What a great story of care and compassion in the face of indifference.
Crush and Smash: "The luckiest cats in the world"
From Rindi White of the Anchorage Daily News: Two tiny kittens owe their lives to a rescue by a couple of seasoned “junkyard dogs.” The pair is a little smudged but otherwise unharmed after the nest of shredded paper their mother made for them under a pickup seat was smashed by a car ...
Ditto to the post above. By all means adopt a kitten or puppy if you plan on giving it a life time of love,
but you will never regret saving an adult pet.
Finding love with a 'less adoptable' pet
Petfinder.com has designated today the first Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day, meant to remind the public that all animals deserve good homes. It has asked its network of shelters and rescue groups to actively promote their adoptable animals who don't normally top the public's most wanted list. ...
typical of what is wrong with modern science, this intelligent bird has been reported and observed using tools for nearly 400 years. Not including the ancient observations noted by Aesop.
For some reason, todays scientists believe they are smarter than their predecessors.
either way, great story about what animal lovers have always known, the animals that share our planet are not mindless automatons, but living breathing intelligent creatures that deserve our respect.
Moral of the story: Crows are smart
From The Associated Press: From the goose that laid the golden egg to the race between the tortoise and the hare, Aesop's fables are known for teaching moral lessons rather than literally being true. But a new study says at least one such tale might really have happened. It's the fabl...
WHAT A GREAT DEAL! Get out there and do something that will benefit your furry faithful friend a lifetime! best yet is FREE

Thank you Judy, our ebony pets are treasured creatures. Not because of their color but because of their indifference to human prejudice and superstitions against color.
it is a sad testimony to the times we live in where a black cat is still feared and tortured on Halloween.
Fighting discrimination against black pets
Did you know that black cats and dogs are the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized? That's according to Pet Rescue by Judy, which made a video on YouTube to call attention to the plight of dark-colored pets. According to the shelter, black cats especially are overlooked at shelters...
My heart goes out to your family. I pray that Duncan will be found soon.
What a handsome looking boy.
Please research the ID Chip implants for when you find him. Regardless of where you move, the chip stays with Duncan and can tell any vet, SPCA, rescue group who he is and how to find you. it is worth every cent.
Have you seen Duncan?
We received this note from Tammy and Joshua Crossman of Longwood, who are desperately hoping their dear pet can be returned safe and sound. They are new to Central Florida and keenly feel the loss of their dog. Tammy tells us: Duncan, our puggle (a pug-beagle mix, left), went missing on Apri...
My pets will also join me as well as anything else my surviving family needs to add to cope with their loss. i plan on being dead while in the casket, so i wont really care much.
It is truly amazing that there are actually laws prohibiting what you can and cannot put into a casket. keep in mind that most states require vaults in addition to the casket.
Regardless, rest in peace Mr King, you too Valentine.
Thanks to Jim King, your pet can be buried with you
This post is about the former president of the Florida Senate, Jim King, who died Sunday of cancer. You haven't accidentally stumbled onto the Political Pulse blog. I was reminded while reading his obituary about his place in history when it comes to Floridians and their pets. King championed a...
Vick is still lamenting his capture and fall from grace only.
Michael Vick is free -- would you trust him to look after your dog?
The electronic monitor came off former star NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s ankle and made him a free man Monday, The Associated Press reports. But would you trust Michael Vick to look after your dog? I'll leave the speculation about his future in sports to those who are experts in that area....
another fine example of Man's ability to bring suffering to the world around him.
also another fine reason to care. Thank you for caring enough to stop and then do something about it. Thank you Cat protection league!
Meet 'The Suitcase Kids'
Here's a wonderful story about a Lake County nonprofit shelter that lives up to its name. Sentinel staffer Martin Comas writes: Lois Lanius thought it was odd that a black hard-side suitcase would be sitting by the side of the road as she drove into the Cat Protection Society, where she vo...
my pets are my family. id die trying to save them from a burning building.
BUT i am not shallow enough to believe for 1 second that my pet has a horoscope. this is pretty pathetic IMO. gives animal lovers a pretentiousness we dont need.
Will iPhone users pay for pets' horoscopes?
Sentinel technology columnist (and my husband) Etan Horowitz blogged about a new 99-cent iPhone app that lets dog and cat owners get a weekly horoscope for their pets. According to Pet-entertainment LLC, the Orlando company responsible for "My Pet’s Weekly Horoscope," there are nearly 50 million...
does anyone know who is representing the state? I am sure given this kids parents, he will have a high $$ lawyer trying to get him out on a technicality.
This kid need some serious help.
What cat-killings investigators took from teen's family
The latest grim news about the Miami cat killings and the teen accused in them. From The Associated Press: Cutting instruments, needles, pills, dark clothing and catnip were among the items seized from the family of a South Florida teenager while police investigated the deaths of more than a do...
i suppose you have to support your rich people showing off their manliness by hunting these animals from low flying planes and helicopters. what true manly men they are.
"fast breeding" considering it took 35 years to get to a populations of only 1350 animals i would not call that fast breeding. but skewed reporting.
Montana, Idaho prepare for gray wolf hunts
From The Associated Press: Montana and Idaho are moving toward becoming hosts for the first open gray wolf hunts in the lower 48 states after the animal's removal from the endangered list across much of the Northern Rockies. Montana wildlife commissioners voted July 8 to let hunters throughout ...
Aptly named Turtle. Needs to be saved, moves in takes up necessary care and leaves.

My hat goes off to you Bryan.
Great effort to bring attention to this cause. Noone is saying chains are bad for your dog for monitored periods of time, but a life time chained enslavement for your living property is no life for anyone.
Animal advocates to chain themselves to doghouse
On July 4, Bryan Wilson of Winter Springs and Christopher Murphy with Superior Dog Rescue in College Park will chain themselves to a dog house at the entrance to Sanford's Paw Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, to call attention to the suffering by dogs that are chained for long period...
Sad story.
JJ Gorsky, I hear what your saying. Just recently near me, the police raided the wrong home.
First thing they did was to kill the dogs. a 15 yr old lab and a 6 mos old mixed puppy. In front of children no less. so they killed innocent pets, scared children for life but patted each other on the a$$ for a job well done. i tell ya, i wanted to climb through the TV to kick some cop butt for how crude they were about the whole thing.
so i have no sympathy for jerk cops either.
i just dont see the fair play in this article you mention. either way, the dog lost his life. i dont care if its a police dog or your dog. it makes me sad when one of them dies needlessly.

what a poor tribute to a faithful friend and loyal human companion.
his life was a gift and a blessing. what a shallow selfish desire to keep a "copy" alive.

What is the evidence that they brought this kid in under? Have they clear it up yet?
this is shaping up like they got the wrong kid or they demeaning the seriousness of these crimes.
Teen in cat-killing case out of jail
From The Associated Press: A teenager accused of killing more than a dozen cats in South Florida was released on $249,500 bond June 17 after a judge ruled he did not pose a danger to himself or the community. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge John Thornton ordered Tyler Hayes Weinman, 18, released after...
That's scary, this kids parents can afford a 1/4 million in bail.
that means here comes the high priced lawyer and insanity plea to get this kid in and out of the jail in 90 days.
not good.
Update on South Florida cat case
From The Associated Press: A South Florida teenager accused of killing and mutilating more than a dozen cats posted a $249,500 bond June 16, but before he can be released, he must have a psychological evaluation and be fitted for a electronic monitoring bracelet. It will take a day or two for ...
This is truly scary for pets and people alike.
It is always a good idea to keep your cat indoors anyway, but it shouldnt be under threat of a psycho Dahmer wannabe.
Scary times for cat owners in South Florida
From The Associated Press: Horrified owners have been finding their cats killed and mutilated for the past month in two south Miami-Dade County communities. Many of the cats were missing fur and appeared to have been cut with a sharp, straight instrument, police said. In all, investigators ar...
I would strongly suggest not using Craigslist.
Craigslist is full of predators both for humans and pets.
Class B animal dealers use Craigslist as a shopping list.
Unless your just going to buy a coffee table or other used nick nack, craigslist should used with sincere caution.
thank you for taking in this poor soul. I hope you can help find her a new forever home.
Stray dog needs a home
From the Animal Crazy inbox, Lisa Reddy of Geneva writes: On Memorial Day I found an old dog walking slowly in the rain behind the local elementary school here in Geneva. She was limping badly and her tail and ears were down - she looked utterly dejected. When I approached her she slowly wagg...
