What would be really awesome was if DLC for a baseball video game was released in the same vein. That would reach a larger audience, thus exploding the kind of discussion you're talking about here.

I'm late to the comment party, but: *Of course* it was exploitative. Every ad campaign is, even those for charity. They prey on the common preconceived notions and/or desires of the audience. This one preyed on the preconceived notion of the geek and tried to change the definition of said word to illustrate that geeks are not social outcasts but REAL PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU AND ME! The hoped-for result is that the audience realizes this and hops on-board for the literacy campaign. I can see where you would be taken aback (I drink Mtn. Dew and energy drinks, and I most certainly AM NOT an attractive female with a killer smile). I am not, however, surprised that instead of a defining statement of geek pride, this was quite the opposite. It was an ad after all.

I think that Jedi Day is a better name for today than Star Wars Day. When I hear Star Wars Day, I think "anniversary of the film's release," and that's May 25.

But what if you also lack a group of friends with which to play, or can be convinced to play? I have always wanted to play D&D, but sadly I don't know too many like-minded people.

I have Slacker on my Blackberry, and it's awesome. How can you NOT like the Eagles?

I have Jinx's "The Cake is a Lie" shirt, an obvious (of course) reference to Portal. I wear it often, and nobody gets it. However, a couple of weeks ago, I went to a video game convention (Carolina Games Summit) and everybody was like "Dude, Portal!" and "The cake is a lie! THE CAKE IS A LIE!" It was awesome. Thanks! Your blog is in my Google Reader, so I won't miss that column. Also, in the past three days you have both left a comment on my blog and replied to a comment I left on your blog. May I start telling people that we're friends now, because that would be really awesome.

Wil, How do you feel about a first-time writer using Lulu to distribute his work? I've had a few publishing credentials, but I can't seem to "make it big." I'm at the point where I'd rather just release my work to the masses in a form that I *might* see reasonable compensation for, as opposed to for-credit-only publications (like I have now). Your opinion?

Just saying, I blogged about like you asked. Yes, I was a bit sarcastic in titling my post, just to be eye-catching and just because that's how I roll.

I take your word that it is indeed faithful, and I'm not a hardcore purists, but if the really big thing is the really big thing I think that you are talking about--there will be blood (figuratively speaking of course). Also, am I the only person that actually kind of liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? It wasn't as good as The Last Crusade and nothing will ever be as good as Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I found it better than Temple of Doom. After all, after watching the Wrath of God melt faces, I don't think that it is too much of a logical leap to go with aliens.
