Hello, everone! It's like I'm coming home from a very long journey - a good one, but a long one! I can't believe how fast life moves at times, and how much change affects everything. Well, let me tell you a story... About 21 months ago, my husband came home from work and shared a(nother) story of how awful his day had been. I won't share any details, but it took him about 30 minutes to share the story, and it was bad, again. I was biting my tongue, my mouth was clamped shut, and I was determined I wasn't... Convention season has come to an end for us. We had a wonderful time at all the conventions we attended this year! The last one was ICHE in Illinois, and it was a wonderful way to end the season for us. We met so many wonderful people there and had an amazing time of ministry. I hope many of you were there! If not, we'll just have to meet up next time... As I was speaking at ICHE, I revealed that I have been working on a book list to release. I am still working away on that list. It's... I can't wait to see many of you at MTHEA in just a week! I hope you come see me at one of my 3 presentations, and stop by our booth - Ancient Paths Christian Bookstore. I love to talk to groups, but I love to interact one on one even better! My family will be there, minus our oldest daughter. She is travelling to a wedding she will be recording and creating a video of! It feels a bit strange, but we have entered the stage of life of having an adult child. I'm too young for this, right?!... Continue reading

We are busy as beavers around here! In just under 3 weeks, we are headed to Carbondale for our annual homeschool weekend conference. It's become a fun annual event, and one that my family looks forward to every year. This year we are using our newest website, Homeschooling With Joy, to take registrations. If you click on the "Upcoming Conferences" tab at the top of the page, it will take you right to the registration page. My husband, Larry, will be joining me in speaking this year. I am thrilled! We will be covering everything from keeping your marriage strong... Continue reading

Let's revive the Friday Fun Feature! I've missed writing about the fun we have here at our house... We haven't stopped having fun, though! This week, we had the opportunity to keep a couple of little ones to help out a family close to us. It is amazing to me how quickly I forget what it's like to have little children around! My youngest is almost 7, now, and I haven't had to take a little one to the potty in years. I also forgot how quickly they can create a village on the living room floor. They kept me... I am so busy right now - however, it's all behind the scenes - FOR NOW! I am working on big things - new products to introduce you to, upcoming events, new blog posts to help you in your homeschool journey. Keep watching facebook and here at the blog to see what I've been working on for you! Continue reading

Wow! THAT was no fun. I went for weeks without internet access, and I didn't like it one bit! But, that's all over with now, and I'm back and brimming with enthusiasm and ideas for the school year that has just begun. I'm pretty sure that I've shared before that we start our school year on Labor Day around here. We get the new school stuff out, decorate our binders, prepare our boxes for the new school year, and Daddy is home to enjoy the day with us! It's always extra special because Daddy gets to be home with us... Continue reading

Now that many of us are finishing up our summer break in the Northern Hemisphere, we are stepping back, evaluating, and planning for next school year. One thing that seems to be on everyone's mind is scheduling. Whether you are happy or dissatisfied with your previous school year, you may be wondering what you can do to improve next years' school experience. And, let's face it, when we homeschool, it's tough to separate school from life. (Personally, I don't even try!) I have had so many people ask me about scheduling for a homeschool family's day, that I finally wrote... Continue reading

We just had a most wonderful trip! We had two conferences to the East of us just two weeks apart, and so we decided to fill in the middle with a vacation and a short stay with family. It was incredible! We saw the ocean for the first time We went to our nation's capitol and saw the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, the FBI building, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the under construction reflecting pool. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime, and I know that we will all remember it for years to come!... Continue reading

One thng Charlotte Mason was insistent about was that every child should be given the opportunity to to have a rich and varied education. A well-educated person doesn't just know the three R's. A rich education includes all kinds of wonderful, fun, enriching, brain-growing, enjoyable subjects! I get to finish up the weekend at HEAV with one of my favorite topics - all the aspects of a rich education! At 4:30 on Saturday, in Room E-24, I'll be giving a talk titled The Extras that are Not Extra. I can't wait! From the conference brochure: "Music, composer study, artist study,... Continue reading

I can't wait to get to HEAV! I am so looking forward to sharing the wonderful aspects of a Charlotte Mason Education. I obviously love this method, and I love to encourage and inspire others to use it and gain the great benefits of it. At 6 pm on Friday, June 8, I'm going to get to share about one of our family's favorite studies - Nature Study! We love to get outside - whether it's a local park, our yard, or our woods, we love to get outside and see the Creator through His creation. The description from the... Continue reading

I am going to suspend my normal routine on the blog, and share some upcoming events, instead! We have two more conventions we are going to this year, and they take place in the next few weeks. On June 7-9, I'll be speaking at HEAV in Richmond, VA. I'm so excited! We will also have a booth there - look for Ancient Paths Christian Bookstore at booth number 524 - almost in the center of the Exhibit Hall. Over the next few days, I'll be sharing my talk topics with you. If you'd like to see some of the items... Continue reading

We will be spending our Memorial Day at our church's annual Memorial Day celebration picnic. We will enjoy eating the hamburgers and all the goodies that everyone brings. We will enjoy the games that we play - softball, volleyball, frisbee, and the playground games are always a hit with the younger members of the crowd. We will enjoy fellowship with each other. We will enjoy having the freedom to do all these things with relatively little to worry about for the day - all because so many have stepped up and given so much so we can do these things.... No, I haven't sent my children to join the circus human cannonball act! Rather, I am now able to bless others with my children. Truthfully, there were days I thought we'd never get here. Training children to be faithful and diligent is hard work, and I often didn't feel that we were getting anywhere in our training. However, I can now offer hope to you! Our 17 year old daughter went to her grandparents' home this week to spend a few days. Her grandmother had major back surgery, and our daughter was able to go a spend some time helping... I have not yet posted about one of my favorite extras-that-are-not-extra ~ Handicrafts! I love to craft, and I love to turn my children loose on crafting. Well, NOW I'm good with it - but for a long time, I let the fear of the big mess keep us from a lot of fun we could have had. Well, now I know better. How about you? Do you need some inspiration to let your children explore their creative side? Sonya over at Simply Charlotte Mason has put together 3 different instructional videos that will teach your child (and you!) a... Continue reading

Once again, I've gotten so enveloped in preparing for conferences, teaching school, and the spring activities, a great new project (I can't wait to tell you about that one!), that I've not been posting! I've really missed the interaction I get with you all here and on facebook! By the way, if you've never liked my page, please go to The Charlotte Mason Girl's page and like it. We have been busy here preparing for our final two convetions this season. We'll be in Richmond, VA at HEAV June 7-9, and then we'll be in Akron, OH two weeks later... Continue reading

I know that I usually save the resource reveiw for Thursday, but this week, it can't wait! I will make this short and sweet - you need to go sign up for Homeschool Freebie of the Day right now! One of the resources for this week is a Shakespeare quotations copywork book. If you sign up today, I think you'll get the current offerings, and then you'll get a new batch of free resources every week. The other great thing about today, is that they are offering a huge bundle of Shakespeare resources for a VERY low price. I don't... Continue reading

"And Shakespeare? He, indeed, is not to be classed, and timed, and treated as one amongst others, - he, who might well be the daily bread of the intellectual life; Shakespeare is not to be studied in a year; he is to be read continuously throughout life, from ten years old and onwards. But a child of ten cannot understand Shakespeare. No; but can a man of fifty ? Is not our great poet rather an ample feast of which every one takes according to his needs, and leaves what he has no stomach for? A little girl of nine... Continue reading

Teaching our children at home is wonderful! All the options available, the richness of the material, sharing wonderful living books with our children, and short lessons all add up to a rich, low-stress, broad education for our children. What’s that? Not at your house? You can’t seem to get it all in? You struggle to keep ahead of the housework while keeping school going? I have no idea what that’s like – NOT! I do know what it’s like to be a wife, mom, homemaker, homeschooler, church member, community member, daughter, sister, and friend – and struggle to fulfill all... Continue reading

Think about the people you know who are well-educated (or at least you think of them that way). Have they read Shakespeare? Probably. I doubt anyone can be truly well-educated without having read much Shakespeare - including our children. I know, I know - there is a lot of raunchy plots and speech in his plays. After all, he wrote honestly about the human condition - which includes a depraved heart. In fact, Karen Andreola says it this way - "Shakespeare didn't point the moral. Instead, he painted it." That he did! So, when I first read that Charlotte Mason... Continue reading

Today, I'd like to talk about something that, when I came out of my 16 years of education, I had no clue about! I'm talking about classical music. Stick with me! I grew up listening to Randy Travis, Glenn Campbell, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers - all the great country music! I liked the sound of the music, I liked the lyrics, and I could listen to it all day long. Now, if you started talking to me about classical music, my eyes would have glazed over, and I would have been totally lost in about 5 seconds. I saw that... Continue reading

I'm so sorry - I will return to regular posts next week. For now, I hope to see everyone in the St. Louis area at the expo! Come see us at our booth.
