Thanks for sharing that Bittman piece. Ag gag is beyond maddening. Fortunately, we have many options locally to buy from farms that we can actually visit to see how the animals that produce our food really live. Kudos to places like Carter and Stevens, Stillman's, Chestnut Farms, Springdell Farm, Pete and Jen's Backyard Birds, and Tufts' Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine (my employer).

Oh, you were right about those patties! I hope we get more. I just posted a comment about wanting to braise cabbage, too.)

OK, I CANNOT wait to try out all these recipes. I did sautee the fava beans as directed (can anything not be good with butter and salt??) with delicious results. The grilling technique seems perfect for us, so I'm going to pick up more when we have better weather (it rained Friday night). Fennel gratin?? Recipe, please! Does the licorice taste mellow out when it is roasted? I hope so. Because that strong taste is my fear about the fennel salads...maybe it's unfounded? That radish leaf recipe sounds like how I cook beet leaves. Yum. Thanks, everyone!

Wow--very creative. Sounds yummy. As a Polish/Irish girl, I've mostly had cabbage either stuffed or in boiled dinner. BUT I have been meaning to make braised cabbage, which Didi Emmons makes sound so good in the Vegetarian Planet cookbook. (Maybe it's not really summer food though...)

I made this on July 4th. It was a huge hit--even though I couldn't score any local strawberries. (I made poor Nate driveall the way into the Cambnridge farmers' market Friday afternoon only to find them all sold out.) I also went with homemade vanilla ice cream made with Shaw Fram whole milk nad heavy cream instead of whipped cream--so, so good!

I'm dying to try out this recipe. Thanks! (I'm close enough to Miel during the day to go grab some local honey at lunch, too. Yum!)

I am really thankful that a sustainable-seafood expert wrote this up. Nate and I eat a lot of seafood, so this is an area we are increasingly curious about. This story helped me get a grasp on the pros and cons of a CSF.
Thanks so much for sharing your good experiences with Chestnut Farms--it's so nice to "meet" another member of the CSA. (We privately call it "meat club" too!) That's a great tip about the ribs; I love using my crockpot, and it'll give me a chance to steal some of the meal prep away from Nate. Definitely let me know if you have a fav recipe for that. I will be hitting you up for ideas on future cuts, too.

A correction to the URL in Abby's comment, as she has some lovely food photography up there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/eyesofab/sets/72157619086609093/

Those look amazing. I'm dying to try this recipe. I always feel good about my health and budget when I cook the greens from my veggies (radishes, beets, etc).

Because all the CSA meat will arrive frozen (and need to be divvied up over a month), we definitely need tips like these. All that's in our freezer right now are Trader Joe's pizzas and some ice lanterns. The freezer space/management issue is about to get interesting...

I love the idea of a stuffing that works with many vegetables. I'll definitely be trying this.
