Photo #1 So one thing I've been waiting on for this new year is to start the 365 day photo challenge. Taking one photo a day for one year sounds right up my alley, totally do-able, rewarding, and well, lets face it, FUN! My friend Carrie did this last year and I really enjoyed following hers. So I've begun a Flickr account but will be posting my pics here too...maybe not each day, but more like a week at a time. Enjoy, join me, and "Choose to LOVE 2012" My prayer is that 2012 is much better than 2011...not just... Continue reading

What an honor to participate. Here are some behind-the-scene shots I took. There were a lot of happy faces on this great day in Louisville at the Jefferson St. Baptist Center. (Click on pic to enlarge) For more on Help-Portrait and how YOU can get involved go here: www. help-portrait.com. Thanks, Heather Words can't describe want this event was like and how it felt to be there...I guess that's why they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Can't wait for next year. Continue reading

For some reason I haven't been in the Christmas spirit quite yet. Maybe we just need to get our tree up and lights on outside and I'll get more into it, but I will say that I've really enjoyed our Elf on a Shelf, Elle. She is quite mischievious this year....very messy and in to all my things, but Em's laugh in the morning makes it all worth the while! Here is what Em has woken up to the last four mornings. Snow angel Snowball fight Tea Party Fishin' for goldfish Em's face each morning is priceless! She doesn't know... Continue reading

Last year we made this advent calendar... It was made from paper that I turned in to pouches by sewing them up the side. In each pouch Em would get a little gift (a sticker or candy) and then she'd get a sentence or two of the story of Christmas. On the last day of the calendar we put all the slips of paper together and read the whole Christmas story. It was great fun! This year I changed things up a bit by creating this little calendar... No gifts of candy or stickers this year though. To create, I... Continue reading

It was such a memorable Thanksgiving with our family in the Carolina's. I know there are a lot of people out there who say this, but I truly come from the best family (on both sides). I have aunts, uncles, and cousins galore and we only keep multiplying...my grandparents would all be so proud that the legacy of family continues on to this day. I can see the pride in family that all the little ones are being instilled with and it brings great joy to me...I could well up with tears at just the thought of it, to be... Continue reading

I realize I'm behind. I've been working A LOT! It's amazing how many couples wanted their baby to be born on 11/11/11...therefore, my job of taking baby pics was CRAZY! It was so fun, but we're finally slowing down from all that madness. I'm about to have four days off, so we can take a road trip to the Carolina's where we'll meet up with family for Thanksgiving and also go to my aunt's wedding. I can't wait for Em and Joe to meet the Tate side of the family (my mom comes from a family of TEN brothers and... Continue reading

I like how you handled this with the boys. I often struggle with news events that Em needs further explanations on. It really is a fine line between answering their question and at the same time not giving them more than their little hearts and minds can handle. You put the story into an overall bigger life picture...good job! Talking threw tears is never an easy thing either.

I made this today and the house filled up instantly with this aroma that made me want to curl up with a book and coffee...so homey! I served it over chicken flavored rice (Uncle Ben's). Sprinkled it with cheese and a dab of sour cream...oooh so good! This in now one of my top 10 fav Fall dishes! I found it on Pinterest (of course), but it comes from ( http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/02/crock-pot-santa-fe-chicken-425-pts.html ) Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken Servings: 8 servings (Great for leftovers) 24 oz (1 1/2) lbs chicken breast 14.4 oz can diced tomatoes with mild green chilies 15... Fall has only just begun and I have found myself already very bored with our evening meals! So where to go for a bit of inspiration (or should I say pinspiration)? Just a few clicks and a couple of scrolls and voila! We have a new menu for the week. Here is what we tried and what we liked! You'll notice that there aren't too many ingredients in either recipe and to make it even better both of these recipes shared ingredients! I hate reposting from another site...sorry it's not original, nor does it have my own photos, but really...is... Continue reading

Well the week started out with my phone being stolen (then returned) and ended with me having a stomach flu (the worst you could imagine) from Friday night until Sunday morning (hence, all the Pinning I did Sunday morning while lying in bed). That being said...there were plenty of things to be thankful for this week. Happy, blogging, & finding new music just before my phone was stolen. ...and happy after it was returned! Thank you Nicole & Highland officers. Our first Halloween in the Highlands Date night w/Em. Who says only dads and daughters get date nights? Ready for... Continue reading

Kindness, generosity, and compassion...those are the words I want to talk about. I've had a lot of time to think lately...maybe too much time, but I've come to the conclusion that those three words (ACTION WORDS) are the most important things that I can teach my child. I believe in hard work, independence, resiliency, curiosity, and perseverance. All of these things I of course intend to pass on to my daughter, but all of these things are of no importance to me if she does not embody and practice each and every day KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, AND COMPASSION. In this day... Continue reading

Dinner w/Bella crew Em & Pawpa Furniture measurements Small girl BIG heart Gift from cuz Nora :) This week brought on a lot of emotion and new realizations about love and how important it is that we show it, verbalize it, and be grateful for all it in our life. December is the month for Help Portrait and I'm excited to be doing this with a few of my co-workers from Bella Baby Photography. Just in time for the holidays and during a month and season that can find many people feeling low...it's just the right time to get out there and get involved and give give give...give of yourself. Give time, talent, attention, and support. Please check it out. It takes photographers, stylists, and coordinators and is done all over the world. See the video's below and learn more about how you can get involved (there is still time!)... Continue reading

I sit here in a house that is in the process of being "put together". Boxes are gone for the most part and now I can sit here in the formal dining room with enough room to breath, light a candle, and reflect a bit on things. I sit here staring at the frames leaning against the wall (still to be hung) and I have this one frame that holds 39 memories in it. 39 pictures that bring a wave of emotion over me as I stare at them. It makes me think about all that we were then (cause... Continue reading

It's a gorgeous Monday morning here in Louisville, KY. I'm off work, my daughter is in school, and I'm using this time to have a nice cup of coffee here at Starbucks and put together a Fall Music List...my favorite things...music and fall! Things that inspire a seasonal list like this are the crisp blue skies, scents of candles burning in the house, meals I know we'll be cooking in the kitchen, and driving my car through the multicolor foliage. I will warn you...I like pretty mellow stuff for the most part, but love good beats! Don't worry though. I... Continue reading

I realize it's been awhile since I've been fully committed to this old blog of mine...to be honest...I just stopped feeling the need or desire to come here and share. I could say "we've been busy" because we have been, but the real reason is that I that I just didn't have anything I wanted to share. We've been having some great times lately and we've recently been on project overdrive, since moving into this house, and I could have written about all of that and shared the dozens upon dozens of pictures I have from all of that, but... If you haven't heard of Bon Iver then you need to go to iTunes right now and get his latest self titled album. I first fell in love with him when I heard his song "Skinny Love" from his album For Emma, Forever Ago. Now his latest album is on constant rotation for me. I was even happy that it made it's way into the yoga studio that I'm trying get into. Here is a taste of a couple songs. 1.) Skinny Love 2. ) Flume. And on another music tip...Mat Kearney was fantastic at Headliner's in Louisville last night.... Continue reading

This afternoon was the color of water falling through sunlight; The trees glittered with the tumbling of leaves; The sidewalks shone like alleys of dropped maple leaves, And the houses ran along them laughing out of square, open windows. Under a tree in the park, Two little boys, lying flat on their faces, Were carefully gathering red berries To put in a pasteboard box. Some day there will be no war, Then I shall take out this afternoon And turn it in my fingers, And remark the sweet taste of it upon my palate, And note the crisp variety of... Continue reading

I have wished a bird would fly away, And not sing by my house all day; Have clapped my hands at him from the door When it seemed as if I could bear no more. The fault must partly have been in me. The bird was not to blame for his key. And of course there must be something wrong In wanting to silence any song. Continue reading

The sense of danger must not disappear: The way is certainly both short and steep, However gradual it looks from here: Look if you like, but you will have to leap. Tough-minded men get mushy in their sleep And break the by-laws any fool can keep; It is not the convention but the fear That has a tendency to disappear. The worried efforts of the busy heap, The dirt, the imprecision, and the beer Produce a few smart wisecracks every year; Laugh if you can, but you will have to leap. The clothes that are considered right to wear Will... Continue reading
