"Business is business and the league needs to draw the line somewhere in salary negotiations with the referee union."
Man, these billionaire owners needs to chill and just give the refs their salaries. I can't believe you're excusing them for locking the refs out and bringing in scab refs. Sure they make mistakes but that doesn't mean they've lost the right to earn a living. The league want to make things a whole lot worse for the refs in the terms of employment, and I sympathize completely with the refs on this issue. I'm actualy thinking about boycotting the league until this is solved. It makes me sick.
Pierce Pissed Off About Replacement Refs
(Warning: Video contains NSFW language) Paul Pierce is not happy that the league is willing to start the season with replacement referees: “I think it’s terrible that they don’t have a deal in place,” Pierce said. “The league needs to step up and get it in place. Last [season] they talked a...
If Buford is having Pop pull all the strings, that makes him a great GM. You can't really argue with him being no. 1 for the decade, three rings? With that budget?
BDL Ranks Danny 4th Best GM of Decade
Via Ball Don't Lie: If it seems odd to rank this guy so high, considering he's spent years presiding over some pretty rank teams, I can understand your fears. But this is a decade-long list, and while some of the men at the top of this page may have better futures (and won't have to pay Kev...
Not only was he good on defense, he sank two extremely clutch free throws to win the game for Turkey. A really nice pick by Ainge, if you're to draw any conclusions from this one game...
Erden Dominates Gasol in Eurobasket
Via Jess Camerato's Green Street Blog: The Boston Celtics 2008 second round draft pick Semih Erden has yet to play in an NBA game, but he has already defeated one of the Los Angeles Lakers. On Saturday he helped Turkey defeat Pau Gasol and the Spanish team in the EuroBasket 2009 Group F quali...
Word up!
Let the debate begin
The most epic draft ever was held last night. Chuck and I have each put our teams together. Here's how they all shake out: RedsArmy Starters: C: Bill Russell 1958-59 16.7 ppg, 23.0 rpg, 3.2 apg, FG 45.7% FT 59.8% (block stats not kept) F: Kevin McHale 1986-87 26.1 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 2.6 apg, 2.2 ...
So are we cheering for scabs here? Man, stop it. I'm all with the refs on this one.
Will replacement refs learn how to suck in time for the season?
Labor talks between the NBA and its refs have broken down. Which means we could start the season with replacement refs. No further talks are scheduled between the sides with only 22 days before the league's first scheduled exhibition game Oct. 1. The likelihood that replacement refs will be...
Does anyone hava a compilation of what PG's are realistically available? Heck, how much would Starbury cost at this point? He seems motivated for coming back and to me the whole streaming thing isn't that big a deal. The biggest reason not to would be if the videos have made him unpopular among the other players.
What to do with the open roster spot?
Chuck was holding his newborn son in his arms when news broke that Marquis Daniels was coming to Boston. Today, as Daniels prepares to sign, Chuck will help his son move into his dorm as he starts his first year at Emerson College. Get what I'm saying? This has taken a while. And by the end ...
White and gold without green? Seems to me that there should be some green around there... I agree about our uniforms being the nicest though. Other than us, I'd say the sixers, the bobcats, the spurs, the rockets and the trailblazers are neat as well. Among the ugly ones the knicks, the warriors, the lakers and the magic come to mind. The Warriors are probably the worst.
The Celtics are a stylish bunch
At least Ball Don't Lie thinks so. Kelly Dwyer put the C's at the top of the list of NBA uniforms. It's green and white. When they're at home, they wear white. When they play on the road, they wear green. It looks fantastic, and it's been around for about a trillion years. Or 63 years. Whate...
I'd say Scal is more like a '98 Buick with 80 000 while TA is more like a Nascar. Now, you could use a racing car for getting around, you just have to be careful and take it nice and slow. I'm not saying that I'd RATHER play TA, I'm saying I'd JUST AS SOON play TA. You could get better, you could get worse.
The Latest Non-News on Marquis Daniels
Via John Hollinger's chat on ESPN.com: Q. Who should the celts sign as back up PG? JH: They already have a deal with their guy, Marquis Daniels, they just haven't inked yet because they're desperately trying to make it a sign and trade. Daniels will play with House in the backcourt with the seco...
It seems they believe quite a lot in Bill Walker, let's just hope he's ready. TA isn't really THAT awful, he's just not good. I definately would rely on TA just as soon as rely on, say Scal or Shelden Williams. I can see a second unit like Daniels; House; Walker/Allen; Davis; Wallace. It's actually a pretty strong second unit.

I always thought Haywood had the best blog among NBA players, but have to agree this one was terrible. Homophobia was outdated in the 30's or thereabouts.
Brendan Haywood should just worry about trying be good at basketball
... and not about what Stephon Marbury is doing. This is what he said about Stephon Marbury's live streaming madness. “At first it was cool, but after a while it just became disturbing. He’s on YouTube crying with no shirt on for no reason, sweating while his boy’s rubbing his shoulders. What...
Magic over Big O? Magic was great but Robertson was incredibly good. I mean incredibly.
All time would go something like
PG Oscar Robertson
SG MJ
SF Larry Legend
PF Duncan
C Wilt Chamberlain
An alternative would be to have Russell play the four with Wilt center, like they used to play in the all-star games in the sixties. That is some frontcourt. But since Bill is a natural C, I have to go with Duncan. Barkley is a candidate in that position as well.
Happy 50th Magic
I respect Magic more than any other Celtics opponent. Without him, the Lakers-Celtics rivalry wouldn't exist as we know it. If I was starting an All-Time team... Magic would be the point guard. Happy 50th birthday, Magic.
If 20/10 is criteria, Zach Randolph has 20/10 per 36 minutes over his career...
On the serious side, the 5 "undebatables" are undebatable, as is probably 2-time MVP Steve Nash. Jason Kidd seems like an obvious choice as well.
If Pierce is a candidate based upon Finals MVP merits, D-Wade has a lot better career averages and is an olympic champion. Ben Wallace is a four-time Defensive PotY, four-time all-star, five-times all-defenisve 1st team, and the 7th highest total rebound % all time. Then again, Dennis Rodman isn't on the original list, so I guess truly great defense isn't that valued. Speaking of which, shouldn't Rodman be there?
Great Debate: Which 10 to add to the "50 Greatest" list
The Hoop Doctors has a great debate going on right now on the site. Since the NBA... at least as a brand name (explanation on the site)... turns 60 this year, which 10 players should be added to the "50 Greatest Players" list. Here's the original list. Now... you CAN'T pull anyone off the list...
Man, couldn't we even get him the minimum with a team option? This is getting depressing...
Powe close to signing with Cleveland
According to Adrian Wojnarowski on twitter. If Leon Powe's rehabbing knee checks out with team doctors Tuesday in Cleveland, he will sign a 2-year deal with Cavs, source tells Y! Spts I find it interesting that his knee would be healthy enough right now for a team to sign him. Credit to Leon f...
That's a hard one. Obviously Magic was better than Cousy and West probably a better 2 than Pierce (considering he's out of position), but Bird is definately a lot better than Jerry West ever was, and I don't see any Laker PF:s as good as McHale (if we can't have KG, you can't have Malone). At Center, you can't have Wilt since he was mostly a Philly player, but Kareem should suffice with Shaq as backup. Kareem or Russell? I'd go with Russell, but these are both top-5 centers all-time. Hard to say. In whole, the all-time lakers would be better offensively, but the all-time Celtics would be a lot tighter defensively. It'd be close. It's the two best franchises in the league.
Introducing... your "All-Celtics team"
Yeah, it's a little slow around here. But that just gives us a chance to get creative. And one thing that I know we always like debating is "All-Time" teams. So I'm going throw out my "All-Celtics" team. PG: Bob Cousy - The "Houdini of the Hardwood" set the stage for all future point guards...
And Havlicek off the bench;-)

KG is probably than McHale was, and together with Russel he'd form the most frightening interior defense concievable. However, that woudl alter your thought behind the whole thing so I can see why he's left out. Allen would probably be on the bench. Everything else seems about right.

"Storytelling" by Todd Solondz or "Kill Bill" by Tarantino would probably get my votes. Most great movies are from the 90's though.
We Read Bill Simmons, So You Don't Have To
Bill Simmons recaps the NBA off-season in a two-part epic on ESPN.com. Minus all the quotes from "Almost Famous," his laughable choice as the best movie of the decade (off the top of my head - I'd take "Remember the Titans"), it's a good article about the NBA. He's not a big fan of the Rasheed W...
Yeah, this is just awful. I really wanted Leon back, he's just a great guy and a great player. He earned an extension. I think considering the low salary they really should have given him a chance. I hope he returns but understands if he doesn't, considering how he's been treated. He is a fan favorite and has a bright future once he becomes healthy again.
Baby gets offer, Powe doesn't, & Sheed news
Scott Souza has the scoop. While the Celtics did retain the right to match any contract offer to Glen Davis through the qualifying offer, Ainge said the injury status of Leon Powe - who had reconstructive left knee surgery after tearing his ACL in the playoff series vs. the Bulls - was a determi...
Welcome back Eddie Money, this is great news.
Eddie House is coming back!
Eddie House won't opt out of his deal. He has chosen to come back to Boston for the last year of his deal. "It was a tough decision," Bartelstein said. "We went back and forth the last couple of weeks. But, when it was all said and done, Eddie loved his time in Boston, he feels like he is on...
I'm not so sure this is such a weak draft. It is weak in wing players but in big men and especially in point guards there are several interesting prospects. One player I would love for the C's is DeJuan Blair, maybe we can trade up for him in the mid first round. For the Wolves, they can get two top prospects with picks 5 and 6, I'm not so sure they'll go for Rubio. Think James Harden to take Millers spot at the 2 and then there will be several PG options at the 6: Most likely all but one of Holiday, Curry, Evans... I think they don't have to trade up.
Wizards - TWolves in 5 player trade
.... Aaaaaaaaand... THEY'RE OFF!! The pre-draft trading is suddenly getting hot... with the Wizards and Timberwolves swapping 5 players and the #5 pick in the draft, according to Sports Illustrated. The Wizards and Timberwolves have agreed in principle to a trade involving Washington's No. 5 pic...
There are loads of people who don't overcome, but at least learn to live with alcoholism and lead their lives sober. And there are loads of people who die from it. It's a psychological disease, part of the definition. It's not about "wanting" to get rid of it: you could as easily talk about how people have to "want" to get rid of cancer or whatever. One out of ten who starts drinking actually becomes an alcoholic eventually.
Old Big Men Who Blew It, Yet Still Want To Play
Old friend Vin Baker is still playing professional basketball, I think. According to Marca.com, he's signed with Marinos de Anzoategui of Puerto Rico. I wish I could share more details but I can't read Spanish. I'm guessing Baker is doing this for money and not for the love of the game. His $...
Are you seriously mad at Baker for being an alcoholist? Man, it's a disease. Hate the sin, not the sinner. You guys are promoting alcohol quite a lot on this blog yourselves, maybe you should drop that shit instead of hating on a great athlete with great problems. I feel genuinely sorry for Vin Baker. I hope he can overcome his addiction and set his life straight.

Villanueva would be great, only problem is that if he'll have to do with the kind of money we can offer him, he'll surely re-sign with the Bucks, which he has said he want to several times. I really can't see him coming here, unless we trade for him.
My Father's Day Wish List
Since it's Father's Day, I'm feeling a bit entitled. So after cracking a Labatts with my eggs and giving my kid a chocolate bar for breakfast, I've decided to write up my "dream" Celtics roster for the upcoming season. This is a realistic wish list. In other words, if Danny builds this team for ...
I'm not judging, just saying it's a pretty real possibility Doc quits because of his family. He's said so several times.

Doc Rivers is always talking about spending time with the family, how basketball comes second etc. Thibs can take over when he moves down to FLA for good.
