I've been wearing this skirt nearly all summer so I suppose I ought to share it, especially since I love it so much! It's got a great little swing to it and it's breezy and cool to wear since it just skims your body... Plus, it's so very easy to... Continue reading

I thought it was funny that Jess and I had the same problem...I could not believe it when it happened, my mouth dropped open and there were likely some expletives muttered under my breath! Kristin suggested that perhaps interfacing might help? That might be worth a try... It is a lot of dress to pull through a small but fairly long opening. The double gauze I used (as you know) is so light and airy that I wonder about getting the quilting cottons through... just go sloooowww!
thank you! :)
I know! As I was reading Jess' post this morning I was like wait...what?! Surprised to know it wasn't just me, but yes, perhaps a bit of lightweight interfacing like shapeflex or the like might be helpful...or just go very very very slowly. It's a lot of dress to pull through a tiny hole, and the DG is so light and airy that I wonder about getting the quilting cottons through...
I really do love it b/c it seems a bit more "sophisticated" for older girls, especially when you pick more "sophisticated" fabrics ;)
Today is Violet's first day of First grade! It's funny how much hand holding there is for both kids and their parents the first days of Kindergarten, but for First grade it's nearly already old hat! On Friday we visited the school to find her new teacher and to see... Continue reading

We've got one more week of "summer" left here in our house. This week we are getting back into our school year routines, earlier dinner and bedtimes, etc. We are also prepping a bit so that we can start the year off on a nice and orderly organized note! Check... Continue reading

At the beach we are our best selves. At least it seems that way many times. Is it the salt, the sound of the waves crashing or the sand between our toes? Maybe, it's that we simply take time to be together. Really it's a combination of it all. We... Continue reading

Wow, I'm not exactly sure how it happened, all this sewing this summer, I hadn't really intended to do so much, but you know...I love it. Apparently, with all of the sewing happening around here the kids are beginning to catch the sewing bug as well. They've been asking about... Continue reading

Perhaps I'm a little bit slow and still back on the whole Kid Art theme from Kids Clothes Week...Or, more accurately, the kids saw me making my sun-dyed skirt and wanted to get in on the fun too especially since they remembered how much fun they had when we made... Continue reading

A couple of weeks ago I put together a great big roundup of embellishment "how tos" for Summer of No Pants. And today I've got a fun little "embellishment" DIY myself to share... I used inkodye and the sun to add a bit of my garden to a skirt. I've... Continue reading

Yup, more bathing suits, matching ones at that! I mean what's a handmade summer without swimsuits, right! Earlier this summer, even before I began pattern testing for the Cosi swimsuit, Henry expressed a great distaste for his regular baggy bathing suits and wished he had a pair like his beloved... I am thankful for children who gasp with awe when they spy a hawk overhead! Who are excited by even the tiniest of living things. Who like to get dirty. Who are excellent fruit pickers (and eaters). Who give me so many moments of childish pleasure and let me feel... Continue reading

It's time for this year's installment of shorts for shorts on the line... This is the third year I've participated in shorts on the line (you can see past shorts here and here) and each year I tend to go super summery. Bright colors, birds and a beachy feel...and this... Continue reading

How is it August first already? It's crazy how fast summer is moving along. It seems like once the kids are in school summers begin to move a little faster doesn't it? Or is that just me? Well, despite my wish that this last month slooooow down it's likely not... Continue reading

As I mentioned last week we celebrated my in-laws 50th anniversary a few weekends ago. For the party I made Henry a dapper little bow-tie and shorts outfit and Violet got a pretty purple dress. And, for me, well I had big plans since vintage May to make myself a... Continue reading

I didn't get much sewn up for Kid's Clothes Week but I did sew up a lot of tanks! Two more tanks to wrap up the KCW, one for each kiddo... I wanted to do something along the "kid art" theme line so I had the kids draw some drawings... Continue reading

Since it's Kid's Clothes Week I've got a rare Saturday post today...At the beginning of this week I had no real plans to sew any kid's clothes. I've got a few other (thousand, just like us all, right?!) things to catch up on instead...But, as is the usual occurrence with... Continue reading

I've found myself doing a lot of pattern testing this summer. It all started with a bathing suit (and then another) and then the first piece of clothing I've ever sewn for my husband! I've had a lot of fun joining the testing process, seeing the changes that are made,... Continue reading

I've had the Caroline Party Dress pattern ever since the Perfect Pattern Parcel #2, however, at the time I only had a chance to sew up the Celestial Tee and the September Dress. So, for my husband's parent's 50th anniversary party I knew I wanted to make Violet a special... Continue reading

It's Kid's Clothes Week! Are you participating this season? I'd say that I'm "sort of" participating... The theme this season is "kid art", of course that can be taken many different ways, but I thought it'd be fun to get the kids involved and let them add some of their... Continue reading
