LOL! Daily backups and warning devs "Don't pull!" for distributed version control! I still think rewriting internal history on version control is a bad design decision, i.e. fatal flaw.

Thanks for the suggestion, but hooks won't work in this situation... they will create irreconcilable differences between the developer's clone and the central repo. If I wanted to be a technical fascist, I would set up a central Subversion repo and have my developers use git-svn. As for trust, this word has a lot of implications. This is the way I see it: Do I trust my developers to work hard to deliver great software? Absolutely. 100%. Do I trust my developers to never make a mistake? to handle merge conflicts correctly all of the time? No. Do I ever make mistakes? I know this to be the case! I trust responsible developers will read this post and realize that 'git rebase' is running with scissors. It's there for when you really need it, but it should not be a part of normal, daily workflow. The better alternative would be to use plain-old git merge.
