How Art Saved Me • by Suzi Blu
I tell you my story not for sympathy, but to prove there is a way back. I Am Dysfunctional Hello. My name is Suzi. And I am dysfunctional. Have you ever dreamed you were falling and just as you were about to smack into the pavement you woke up, short of breath, unable to move, sure that the...
Super sweet! I bet the pieces will look great as they age and take on a little patina.
Wooden Matching Memory Game
I was thrilled when I bumped into Lemon Tree Studio today and found that she hand-stamped forest imagery onto these wooden chips to make a Memory Game. I bought a bag of the same blank wooden chips over a year ago that I intended to screenprint for a personal project but I never got around to it...
The little necklace is so sweet!

And to think I dream of renting sometimes! :) Owning a home is great for many reasons, but when the water heater goes out, all the sinks back up, and the furnace kicks the bucket...and you have to pull out the ole wallet. ugh. In those times I think back about the convience of calling a landlord! I hope your rental is on the mend & good luck with the house hunt.
Houses, oh my!
Well, hello!! oy vey, this last week in our house has been very, erm, unusual. I was taking a shower on Wednesday and right before my eyes a HUGE crack appeared on the other side of the tub basin. It went all the way across the tub. I hopped out and sure enough water was pouring into the basemen...
I'm sort of obsessed with changing my backgrounds too!

If I were to have another child I'd definetly do it at home. I had two "easy" hospital births, were I showed up at the hospital pretty much ready to push. I know having already given birth twice, I'd have the confidence to do it at home. There's so much about being at the hospital that I hate. Being at home would make the day much more personal.

King Henry Welcomes You to Court!
Don't you love Tudor portraits? All the pomp and fabric and jewel tones? Have you ever wanted to draw the 3/4 face but omg what the frig angle is that how come the eyes don't line up right? I myself have found it maddening and have avoided it for most of my life. But when my students a...
I love the blue and yellow walls! I want that yellow color on my backdoor. It's sunny, but doesn't hurt your eyes. Perfect. Any chance you recall the color/brand?

Incredibly brave and honest writing from you Danita! I think art helps a lot of people cope with many different things. For you to be able to help yourself and inspire others, well it just doesn't get much better than that. xo Lindsay
Crazy Without Art • by Danita
I like a saying in Spanish that translates something like, “Share your joys to the world, save your sorrows to yourself.” Art helps me a lot to deal with my problems. I suffer from depression and I’m not on medication (I’ve tried it but I got a false sense of happiness … more like an “I don’t ca...
My 6yr. old daughter loves to collect dead bugs. I should enclose them in something like your gift. I'm a little sick of seeing dried broken off legs on her nightstand!
Sea Monster Specimen
Thanks so much for all the fantastic comments on the book gift-away. Your "handmade present" stories/thoughts were so much fun to read through - and so sweet! The winning four commenters are Terry, Maria Isabel, Moonfairy, and Penny. Congratulations, you guys...I hope the book is fun and helpful...
The view is lovely. And your fresh salad looks delish!
solitude
I've just had three days completely to myself. Nights too. I don't know if I've ever been alone for such a long time before. It was lovely. It helped me remember who I am. I put on a ridiculous outfit and my silly gumboots. I planted broccoli, leeks and lettuce in my little stone walled veg...
Really good post Suzi. A reminder to shake off all those negative nelly demons when they show up. I think they sneak up on everyone sometimes, myself included. Beautiful journal pages too, btw.

White Bean Soup
It's cold today and I need something warm. So I fired up my Whole Foods app and picked a soup. YUM and EASY. And there's no one dead in it (if you use the veggie stock). Ingredients 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth 1 large yellow onion, 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into large ch...
These are pretty fantastic! Love all the color.
Fiona Hewitt
I can't imagine at this point that you aren't familiar with the illustration of Fiona Hewitt. Maybe best known for her Miso Pretty series with Blue Q. I took some time to see what more I could learn about this design wizard. English artist Fiona says she has been deeply influenced by her ...

You're never short on passion Suzi! That's what I like about you most.
And you dare say it belongs to you
No, you don't need me to tell you this. Of course you are an artist without anyone having an opinion about it one way or the other. And you might be like well FINE SUZI pshaw...I guess cause yOu say I am one then I must be, right? (your eyes rolling the whole time). You already know who...
I can understand the studio growing pains. I work at the dining table too, my art supplies stashed in the laundry room, shipping supplies in closets, printers, scanners, etc. stuffed everywhere! Last summer I decided to lease a studio (800 sq.ft)...and it swallowed me whole! I felt so sad there without my girls in the background, without my little yard to eat lunch in, no trees outside my window. I sub-leased the space and moved my stuff back home. Crowded again, but now I appreciate it. :)
I really enjoy your blog and your work.
A little rest
Today I am just resting. It's been a very hectic week, I've had more and more wholesale orders come in for the holidays and I can really declare that my little studio is growing by leaps and bounds and is soon to take over the dining room, I really must find another solution, but I love to work ...

Dreads in Bed!
She can only do it a few hours a day because its a lot of work making my non cooperative thick straight hair dread, so its taking us longer than we thought. At first we rolled but now (whats this we its all Mara, I just sit and complain) we, I mean she, is crocheting my hair. There are severa...
