Will the iPad ever be a true corporate device?
Hi All Thats one for all of to think about. I will be doing a blog very soon on (BYOD) and what it is all about so stay tuned into the the Mad Hatter. The iPad is used in enterprises today but will it ever be a true corporate device or just one that IT departments create workarounds to support? Bring your own device (BYOD) programmes are being introduced at businesses to give staff the freedom to select the device they want to use at work. These programmes might involve the employer paying and supporting the devices or just supporting... Continue reading

Mobile malware up 163% in 2012
Hi All, I spoke about security a number of blogs ago and it is gett worse. We need to keep safe!! Mobile malware threats increased 163% to more than 65,000 in 2012, according to thelatest security report from global mobile internet services provider NQ Mobile. The company warns that the problem is becoming more complex as smarter mobile malware can better target connected devices. Nearly 95% of all mobile malware discovered in 2012 targeted Google’s Android operating system (OS), while the top three attack methods were repackaging malware in seemingly legitimate apps, malicious fake URLs, and SMS phishing known as... What to do next Windows XP is no more?
Hi All, Well it has finally happen Windows XP is dead and support is coming to an end. Check out the artitle below. Many thanks to computer weekly for this. CIOs may not wish to carry on running a 12-year-old desktop operating system (OS), but many have no choice. Support for Windows XP will end on 8 April 2014, but there are thousands of applications that cannot be moved to a newer OS because they are incompatible. Originally launched in 2001, Windows XP is Microsoft's most successful operating system. Once the company had revamped security and hardened the bug-ridden Internet... Continue reading

Concerns over those "security questions" on Web sites?
Well i am back on my horse again about security check out pas blogs. So lets get to it. The Mad Hatter The people and the overall atmosphere are friendly, the weather is almost always pleasant, and the "island lifestyle" is all so kicked back that people just aren't in a hurry. This is the only place I know of where many people actually drive at the speed limit or below it, and a car horn is almost never to be heard (OK, maybe on Oahu). Boy, I sound like an infomercial for Hawaii, don't I? It's not my intention,... Continue reading

What are the pros and cons of Web-based e-mail systems?
Check it and tell what you think The Mad Hatter. if you asked me 10-plus years ago if I would trust a Web-based e-mail client to use as my main e-mail address, I'd probably have answered no. No, because of a limited amount of space, reliability, and most of all, fear of compromise. Back then I always used two clients, my Web-based e-mail for not-so-important e-mails and the desktop client Outlook to retrieve my e-mail from my ISP for my important e-mails. Eventually given time, as Web-based email services grew more robust -- with more storage capacity, more reliability, more... Continue reading

How can I make my Windows 7 machines boot up quickly?
Hi All, Well How can I make my Windows 7 machines boot up quickly? the simple answer to that is you can't. Sorry windows fans. Just joking!!!! Read on. Just have a read through your fellow CNT members' suggestions, there could be many factors that are causing your Windows system to boot up slower over time. It can range from your PC being infected with viruses and spyware and having an overly defragmented drive to an excessive amount of programs running in the background. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. As a few people pointed out, the main... Continue reading

'Bye, Google Docs; hello, MS Word'
Hi All, This is a good Article on Cnet. As long as I can remember, I've used Microsoft Word, for writing college papers to doing my work today. However, a couple of years ago when I got my new home computer, rather than loading Word on my PC, I figured I'd give Google Docs a try since it was free. To my surprise, Google Docs word processing isn't bad. I mean don't get me wrong, it's not a full-featured word processor like Word is, but it suits my needs for home use. And I like that I can import my... Continue reading

For an elderly person, is the tablet a good move from a desktop/laptop?
Hi All, This is a good question for you all, as i have elderly family members and they use laptops to keep in connect. But i have notice that they like the tablets you know that i am a Apple tablet man. tell me what you think. With there busy social schedule, I figure they would enjoy the convenience of a tablet and not being tied down to a cord or desk. He would primarily use it for Internet browsing, checking e-mail, dabbling with games, and watching movies, skype. The only two concerns I had is there sight and there... Continue reading

Will iPad become generic for 'tablet?'
Well All all i have to say the iPad is the new standard and all the other tablets have to step up to the plate? What do you call the flying disc that you throw around at the park? I call it a "Frisbee." I still got one it's great fun. When you tell someone to search the Internet for some information, how do you tell them? I say, "Google it." All these terms are brand names of products, but over time people eventually just came to use a brand name as a generic term for those items even though... Continue reading

E-mail account compromised. How do I stop the spammers?
Hi All, I have a freind who thinks his e-mail account has been compromised and the perpetrator is sending out spam e-mails in his good name! As if receiving e-mail spam isn't annoying enough, now people are receiving it from you. That's got to be disturbing. The good news is that you aren't alone, as many members said that they, too, had experienced the same thing. After going through our members' advice and suggestions, I found numerous ways this could happen. A common one is e-mail spoofing, when the spammer has changed the "From" line to display your e-mail address... Continue reading

Ok all i coud not resist this hot topic subject...
Ok all i coud not resist this hot topic subject the contributor Geoffrey Morrison, who is a huge fan of projectors, and prefers them over "regular" TVs for home use. In his blog entitled: "Poll: What's stopping you from getting a projector?," he wants to know why projectors still remain a tiny percentage of the video market when their prices have come down substantially. And he's curious what's really stopping folks like yourself from moving to projectors from traditional TVs. Is it because of the limited amount of space, picture quality, the cost of replacement bulbs every few years, the... Continue reading

Why You Should Make More Mistakes
Hi All i just had to share this with you The mad Hatter. Thank you Linkedin Think about the last time you made a mortifying flub at work. The email that went to the entire company instead of its intended recipient, or the words that – even as you heard them come out of your mouth – you regretted saying to your boss. Whether you stumbled 15 years ago or last week, the misapprehension and dread it inspired probably feels just as fresh as when the mistake first happened. Big errors are burned into our memory so that we can... Continue reading

Hey All this is an interesting thought for you....
Hey All this is an interesting thought for you. Happy Weekend guys its sunny here in Nottingham UK This topic about donating his old cell phones to charity for reuse or recycling, but before doing so would like to wipe them clean of all personal data. However, making this challenging is that he doesn't have the power adapter to power up the phones with, so what can he do? First, I, as did member "High Desert Charlie," would like to thank Nate for being responsible by recycling the phones and not just chucking them into the garbage. This topic only... Continue reading

Does it make sense to buy a PC with a touch screen?
Hey its the Mad Hatter again check out this in for i spotted in my travels tell me what you think Touch screens on smartphones make perfect sense. And how could you use a tablet without one?! But what about touch screens on traditional desktops or laptops? Personally, I can see how a touch screen makes sense on a convertible (hybrid) laptop since it's used more like a tablet than a traditional laptop, running many apps for which using a touch screen just makes sense. However, on a traditional laptop or desktop computer where more complex software programs are used,... Continue reading

Security on tablets, should we be concerned?
On my Windows PC I have firewall, anti-spam, anti-key logger, and antivirus to prevent breaches of security. On my iPad there is apparently there is no need for any of these, at least to my knowledge. I can use my bank's app for secure transactions as well as other secure transactions. Why is there such a huge difference in approach to these devices, and is the iPad safe out of the box? What about other tablets running Android or Windows tablets, are they safe also? Since there are so many tablets out in the market these days, should tablets users... Continue reading

Apple iPhone 5 features and iOS 6
The wraps have finally come off the iPhone 5 and iOS 6, and you're probably wondering what the implications are for your IT department. Users got a lot of new features in the iPhone 5 and iOS 6: better connectivity, a faster processor, a lighter device with a bigger screen and more. Apple iOS head Scott Forstall is leaving the company. Reports indicate the iOS 6 Maps snafu and battles with other execs led to his departure.
Apple CEO Tim Cook is widely perceived as a quiet and courtly man, but he’s not adverse to shaking things up: the company announced Oct. 29 that Scott Forstall, head of iOS and a longtime Apple executive, would depart next year. In addition, retail head John Browett is also on his way out the door. “We are in one of the most prolific periods of innovation and new products in Apple’s history,” Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, wrote in a quote accompanying the statement. “The amazing products that we’ve introduced in September and October, iPhone 5, iOS 6, iPad mini, iPad,...
