Inspired by the ping pong club SPiN New York and a passion for ping pong, West Coast Event Productions owner Duane Smith has opened Pure Pong in the Pearl at Pure Space in Portland, Oregon. Pure Pong officially opened on March 15, 2013, and... Continue reading

Spin, the elite ping pong club in New York City, recently began filming an episodic ping pong documentary television show—under the working title The Magnus Effect—which focuses on the characters who train and frequent Spin New York. The title of the show refers to a phenomenon in which an object such as a table tennis ball spinning through the air creates a whirlpool of air around itself, and experiences a force perpendicular to the line of motion. The show will initially follow some of the top junior players and Olympic hopefuls, including Michael Landers, the current U.S. men's singles table... Continue reading

Influential Japanese manga artist Taiyo Matsumoto’s five volume graphic novel series Ping Pong (1996-2001), published by Shogakukan, explores the relationship between two teenage friends and ping pong players. The coming of age story told in the series was the inspiration for the 2002 movie Ping Pong.. His drawing style has a kinetic energy which captures the nature of ping pong and moves the reader through the pages of this graphic novel at a dramatic rate, with a few moments of quiet contemplation. "American comics are powerful and cool. European comics seem very intellectual. And Japanese comics are very light-hearted. If... Continue reading
