Looks yummy -- sorry I missed it!
Fruit Pizza and Drinking The Kool-Aid
A couple of you asked for the dessert recipe we served at Bernina Club this month. It's SO easy because it starts with ready made Pillsbury Sugar Cookie dough. I'm usually one to make my cookies from scratch but these were so good and couldn't have been quicker. Great for a large group and perfe...
Thanks for the tour -- can't wait to see what you bring back -- fabulous stuff, I'm sure! Enjoy your drive -- Doug and I are headed up that way in a couple of weeks.
Spring Market 2013 - It's a wrap
I always have big plans to blog and tweet and post on Facebook while I'm working the show but I always seam to come up short. I get totally caught up in the ordering and catching up with old friends and before I know it the day has gotten away from me. It's not that I don't think about you all...
I love Tanya Whelan's fabrics, and Rosebud Petal would be at the top of my list. Any floral/shabby chic/vintage fabric fits in perfectly with my style!
:: a happy friday giveaway!
Oh, it's been a good week... Found this bundle of Mrs. March's 30's prints on Etsy and though it looks amazing sitting on my shelf right now... I am in search of the perfect quilt pattern for it. The possibilities make my head spin. And lots of other fun stuff arrived this week but I'll hav...
Everything you do is just too cute beyond words -- I love your style! My all time favorite fabric line is Paris Flea Market by Three Sisters. I have saved everything little scrap!
a Pin cushion or Mouse pillow :: Giveaway!
Surprise mail is the best ~ especially when it delivers exactly the thing you didn't know you really really wanted. Um no, not this canning jar pin cushion. I was inspired to make that after I spotted the pretty things at this shop. No, it's these cross stitch stamps. They came in a smal...
Sorry, Suzanne. It's always difficult when life throws us these curves. Hopefully you will not follow through with your pledge to retire together. You are in my prayers, as always.
Grieving
Tonight as I pulled into the garage Bill asked if I was okay. He could tell by looking at me that I wasn't. I lied and said I was fine as I headed inside. Today my long time friend and Moda sales rep drove to Bakersfield to tell me he was leaving the company. Today I feel like I lost a friend...
Love the colors -- they would be just great with my new infinity scarf!
Dots nice
So Sunday I was back at the store fluffing and puffing away for our upcoming shop hop (everything must be neat and tidy for the massive amount of company we are expecting) when I thought, hey, I should count the polka dot bolts, just to see how many we have. I've always been curious to know how...
Can't wait to see what you come with -- looking forward to Thursday!
What I've been up to
I wasn't going to make "party favors" for this weeks Bernina Club because our Make It - Take It is a bit over the top but decided at the last minute you can't have a proper party without party favors. I whipped out fifty of these babies, all from my stash, proving once again that it IS necess...
You're five years ahead of us -- we celebrate our 40th this December. Even though you were not at your best on the big day, you two know how to make a marriage work! Congratulations! As always seems to happen, Doug has a conference in southern California the weekend of the Shop Hop. We will swing by SP on our way home on Sunday -- hope there will be some prizes left! Will the celebrity chef make an appearance this year?
What a difference a day makes!
Bill and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary on Friday. I had an eye infection. He suffered from a bout of diverticulitis. I went to bed with a hot compress. He took antibiotics. We're such a fun couple. I've been under a bit of stress lately - emptying a vacation home and gett...
I get asked why in the world I drive to Bakersfield every month for Bernina Club -- here's one of the reasons! I don't know how you accomplish everything you do -- but we appreciate it!
A Tale of Kindergarten and Bernina Club
This past week has been a doozy: A quick trip to Ventura a week ago Saturday to haul stuff home - (it looks like our house there has finally sold). Back to Ventura on Monday afternoon to welcome spring break kids from snowy Kansas. Back to Bakersfield Wednesday afternoon for Bernina Club Wednesd...
Wonderful BC again -- love the towel -- I'm going to get right on it. Really appreciate all the cute, creative things you do -- we LOVE being spoiled!
The way I see it, this is the very best "problem" we could have
I got home after Bernina Club last night and got to make more of these and more of these. Then after only four hours of sleep, got up extra early to make more kits for these - our make-it-take-it project for March (tutorial to follow). Although we always plan enough kits and go...
Your post was a great start to what promises to be a busy, hectic day -- need to remember what's really important in life! Suzanne, you blessed this lady in such a special way. I admire you for using your shop, not just as a business, but as a way to make people's lives better. Thanks!
The best sale of the day
The phone rang early this morning - well before it was time to unlock the doors. It was an elderly customer that lives seventy miles north of our store. She was looking for a particular fabric to make a quilt for an autistic great grandson. Since we didn't have the fabric she was looking ...
I was a little bummed myself yesterday. My sweetheart was out of town for a conference. (What kind of company schedules conferences over Valentine's day?) But then a dozen beautiful roses were delivered -- all was forgiven -- what a guy!
Love thy neighbor
Valentine's Day has gotten to be a bit, er... trying for me. You see we share a parking lot with a very popular local bakery and although we have five plainly marked parking spots reserved for Strawberry Patches employees, finding a spot to park at 9:00am on Valentine's Day is next to impossi...
Said a little prayer this morning for the #badnews tucked into your post -- know you've had some issues in the past. Looking forward to seeing you at Bernina Club.
The past week in review
I've been quiet lately, I know. Here's what I've been up to. Last week I: 1. Watched my car's odometer click over 100,000 miles. I've never driven a car this long. I really hope feel it's just getting broken in. #fingerscrossed 2. Made fifty two treats for Bernina Club. 3. Worked on the fina...
You're right -- great book! I especially like Comos and Violet Cathedral.
Meet Terri & Violet and let's have a Give Away!
You know, I see a lot of books in this business and to be honest, I haven't been a huge fan of late because I rarely find books with more than one project in them that I think you all would want to make. #runonsentence It just seems rather expensive to have to buy a whole book for one stink'n ...
I was going to ask if you were sewing corn tortillas together for an exotic snack, but since Bill isn't eating, I guess that's not it. I'm with you guys -- sewing and watching the good parts.
Super Sewing
Prepping for some mindless Super Bowl sewing. Will you watch the game? Sew? Or like me, do both? Encourage one another,
I echo everything my friend, Beverly, said. I always enjoy being in the shop and driving down for Bernina Club is well worth the drive! I've already started on my name tag and looking forward to the next meeting. I have one question, however. In the "Classes" section on the website, it lists the February meeting as being on the 13th and 14th. Has that been changed to the 20th and 21st?
Sharing and caring
Gosh, here it is the weekend again. This week flew by for me (which is good because with all of the short holiday work weeks we've had recently I was worried I wouldn't be able to get back into the grove of a five day work week again - those three and four day weeks kinda spoiled me). This week ...
I'm going to try to make it to Bernina Club on Thursday. LOVE the new fabrics -- always so much fun to see them in person -- worth the drive down! Incense and Peppermint has my name on it.
Fabric Update - Day 3
Let's continue on with our new fabric tour, share we? This is Salt Water by Tula Pink. Anyone who names a print with life preservers and anchors, Floaties and Sinkies is okay in my book. Too funny! Our precuts of Comma just arrived and the yardage should be here in a few days. Sadly the L...
LOVE Fireworks! Hard to pick just one -- they're all great!
Five new patterns
Four weeks ago a box of happy-go-lucky (our newest line of fabric) landed on my doorstep. It was love at first sight. I've been sewing like crazy ever since, and have 5 new patterns (and 8 quilts) to show you. Finally! Since there are so many photos I'll try to keep the commentary to a ...
Oh, my, I guess I've been out of touch. I didn't know Amanda was expecting another child. My prayers will certainly include Baby Will, and the other dear friends you mentioned. Thank you for sharing.
Gratitude
I've been so weepy lately. I'm fine during the day but once Bill goes off to bed and the house gets quiet I loose it. I must say I've had my share of things to be sad about. Last Friday Bill and I attended our forth funeral in less than three weeks. As we drove north to the service the news of t...
What a beautiful post, Suzanne. My heart goes out to Bill. It's so difficult to lose your mom, whatever age. Sounds like they broke the mold when they made this lovely lady!
The road that leads us home
We lost Bill's sweet mother this week. She lived a long life filled with love, laughter and a lifetime of great friends and wonderful memories. The journey certainly wasn't always easy but she never doubted where the road would lead. (I love Chris Mann's beautiful voice) Roads There ar...
Love this!
A fun way to serve milk and cookies
We served milk and cookies at the store a few weeks ago and found these cute mini milk bottles here. They make something as simple as milk and cookies seem extra festive and special. You can find the stripey paper straws in every imaginable color there too. Fun for kids and those of us just...
I'd have to say I like them all, but since you're making us choose five, I'd say Glamping, Posy, Avalon, Larco and PB&J. I'm looking forward to the yardage arriving!
Sharing the Moda Love
Today my Moda sales rep paid us a visit and he came with gifts! Norbert knows how much I love my blog readers and he thought you guys might like to be the first to own some of Moda's hottest new collections. So here's the deal: Tell me your favorite five collections shown here and I'll rando...
Who--Whee!! You're taking us along on a virtual tour, right? I want to be there for the Paul McCartney sighting. I love London -- so much to do and see -- you will have such a great time with the grandkids. Good decision!
And then, out of the blue...
A few weeks ago our son Bryan and I were catching up a bit. He was telling me of their tentative travel plans for fall. He and Jen have wanted to take the kids to London and had decided now was the perfect time, before the kids get into high school. Well, after we hung up I got to thinking about...
My quilt room is absolutely my happy place -- my favorite place to be. Thanks for all your inspiring ideas!
Getting organized
I hope this post doesn't come off as know-it-all bragadociousness. It's just that it has taken me a whole lot of years to figure this thing called organization out and I feel the need to share! Since recently completing a creative space makeover I have discovered firsthand how powerful a well or...
Great idea -- wish I were on that bus!
Tutorial Tuesday #47 - Fat Quarter Suckers
We're hosting a small bus load of traveling quilters on Thursday and wanted to give them a little favor to thank them for stopping by. So Monday Annette and I made homemade suckers in yummy favors like grape, chocolate, blueberry, lemon, lime, strawberry and orange. Here's how we d...
