I will be at GenCon, but running the D&D Championship for most slots. (Come see us in the Mariott this year, True Dungeon got our old spot in Sagamore)/ I hope you got tickets!
Suggestions for TableTop:
Lunch Money
Any variety of Flux
Three Dragon Ante
Angry Birds (?) - the live action version
BattleTech
Screaming Eagles (Cheesy board game about F-14's fighting each other. I have a copy in storage here.)
Pokemon?
Is it really only 2 days until GenCon? Yes. Yes it is.
On Wednesday, I'm heading to GenCon in Indianapolis. I had a great time when I was there before, and I'm looking forward to attending this year. Here's what you need to know, from GenCon: Wil will be signing autographs in the Autograph Area of the Exhibit Hall, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mo...
All that remains are the giant foam dice, a Portal gun rattle, and a Psyduck plushie.
The Force Will Be With Him...
My nephew will be joining Team Humans sometime in July, so today we're having a baby shower for my little sister (who, at 33, isn't little, bit if you're a big brother or sister, you know what I mean.) My brother in law is awesome, even though he's Dallas Cowboys SuperFan Number One Top Guy Fore...
That is far too funny for words.
Well, except those ones that I just used....
Stop looking at me like that!
She rolled a sixteen. Good for her!
When Ryan was a Junior in college, he moved to a place where he couldn't have cats. Anne and I agreed to foster them until he took them back. That was nearly three years ago. When he moved across the country for his job, we officially adopted the cats we'd been fostering for years. Ryan misses t...
Yeah, and I wonder if she starred in a TMNT porno?
Your move, Fan Fiction Writers
This is Safe for Work. As Chris Hardwick says, I think I'm going to buy this, and skip the naughty bits so I can see the story. (There are a bunch of NSFW behind the scenes pictures from actress April O'Neil -- who is a gigantic geek, apparently -- right here.)
See, this is why I'm glad the State of Michigan now as an entire sub-division of the Department of Labor to deal with raptor incidents. We're at 11 days and keeping the fingers crossed for more. That poor trainee.....

This is in the Electric office here in Los Angeles. I took this picture when I joined John Rogers and Beth Riesgraf there last year for our live chat after The Ho Ho Ho Job aired.
You've gone this long without a copy of Lunch Money? You should have just asked me. I could have gotten you a copy pretty easily.
So, now you have a gnome-sized Shatner? Or a Shatner-sized gnome?
A weekend of gaming, from Cal & D to Power Grid
Saturday, I got together with Cal, Martin and Steve so we could finish our now-epic one-shot of Cal & D. The plan was to start at 10, because Martin had a family commitment that we all decided (despite his disagreement, which was wrong) that wasn't nearly as important as crawling the dungeon and...
Hmmm. So, I can threaten people with punches in the dick to game? Interesting idea for a membership campaign. "Come game with our club, or we'll punch you in the dick."
"In fact, I've never seen her this excited for me to go play D&D."
In my keynote to PAX East last year, I said that gaming is the foundation of, and the mortar that holds together, the strongest and longest lasting friendships in my life. I've been playing with the same guys since high school, and even though we all live in different states (and some of us live...
Poor Wil, you never had a chance. I never had a Swatch either, but they weren't in style her in Michigan in the '80s.
Check. And. Mate.
On our way home from the grocery store tonight, I said to Anne, "Have you heard of this Tumblr called I'm Remembering?" "No," she said, "what's that?" "It's all these images and things from the eighties and early nineties, and it's pretty awesome." In spite of myself, I added with a rather copio...
What I like is that all the supplies are 4th Ed proper. I would have gone with classic 2nd or 3rd ed. But I suck at Photoshop.
what is this i don't even
Apparently, a challenge was issued on EN World that went something like this: I see your Betty White, your Bea Arthur, and Estelle Getty and Rue McClanahan, and I raise you ALL of them playing D&D with Wil Wheaton in the middle of an iconic D&D bar fight, framed in bacon… Even though I haven...
So, what color DOES a Smurf turn if you strangle it?
[Yeah, not that great, but the first thing that came in my head.]
merry smurfin' smurfmas, mothersmurfers
This is crying out for a caption. I'll choose my favorite, and send something neat* to whoever writes it. Submissions open throughout the weekend, one per person, and can only be left as comments here (it's too difficult to track on Twitter or via e-mail). *definition of 'neat' will be at my s...
Great shirt. All you need are 3 more, switchblades, and some fingerless gloves, and you could be a bowling team.
Or a street gang. I always get those two confused. Though, I prefer gladii or wakizashi to switchblades.
in which i spend a day as both father and a son
My son Ryan came home for Thanksgiving, and before he left, my dad and I had planned to take him and his brother to play Frisbee golf. When I got up today, it was fifty-seven degrees below zero, and the wind was gusting with gusto (HA HA HA), and I knew the conditions were not, shall we say, opt...
Like this. But I have to say that when I saw the original page, and again this shirt, I thought of Appa from Avatar:The Last Airbender.
Yes, I'm silly. And an adult. And I still would love to have a flying bison.
i got a new t-shirt today ...
I did a bunch of writing this morning, but I still don't have a monster to unleash on the villagers. I'm not going to lie to you, Marge, it's kind of frustrating, and my goddamn inner critic is screaming at me that I'm terrible and it's stupid and they're all going to laugh at me, which doesn't ...
YES! Epic!
Testing the theory that one can not have too many dice
Just before I went out to GenCon in August, I wrote: I have one request, which I hope isn't unreasonable: I'd like to test the theory that you can't have too many dice. If I see you at GenCon, would you give me one gaming die? I'll bring home as many as I get, dump them all on my office floor, ...
That would be the Xorn. Those guys have gone through a few changes since the original FF.

Is it wrong that I actually laughed loud enough to wake the dog at that one?

Ah, science nerd humor. The best kind of humor.
we can't rewind, we've gone too far
I'm home for a few days before I go back to Vancouver to finish out the season on Eureka. It's nice to sleep in my own bed, actually see my family, and work in my actual office, instead of sitting at a desk in a hotel. Doctor Parrish was very heavy in the last episode I shot, so I worked 5 of 6 ...
I remember hearing this at GenCon. It's a really cool and sweet story. I am okay at Scrabble, but consistently lose to my sister because, despite having a larger vocabulary (Science will do that.) she plays words that are just long enough to make me miss the bonus boxes. Worse, is this other version of Scrabble on Facebook, (WordScrambler) that has a changing board and up to 5 Word/Letter score zones.
And it's also frustrating to have O, O, Z, Q, V, Y, X and not have a single E available on the board. Talk about vix-ing...
Video of my reading from PAX Prime: Triple Word Score
While browsing Reddit during my morning coffee, I came across this: I remember how much I liked writing this story for LA Daily, but until GenCon, I'd never read it in public. Both times I've read it, though, it's gone over very well, so I'll probably add it - at least temporarily - to my pe...
Woot!
i have the heart of a dragon (no, really, i do)
Home from GenCon. Happily exhausted. I killed a dragon with one hit. Now, it's time to sleep for two days.
Yours too? Neat! This was the first year GenCon actually fell on my birthday. Next year, it'll happen again.
Oh, and where in Canada? You might be able to drive it. Toronto would only require about 11 hours. (It's 5 hours from T to me, and 5 hours from me to Indy.)

First off, that was a great talk. Even with the threat of imminent coughing fit collapse (For which we were all to remain calm about, as it would pass) you gave us some good stuff. Wish I could have swung buying the chapbook, but until my great parking scam on Sunday (I'll have details in my blog before the end of the night, along with the rest of GenCon memories) I did not have the money, but having a signed copy of "Memories of the Future" will more than make up for it. Will probably ship the others to be signed in a SASB when they're out.
And, I found the d6 that was missing from the set I gave you. It made it's Stealth check and hid behind my sunglasses. Instead of feeling bad I didn't give you a full set, I now have another cool reminder of a fun weekend of gaming and meeting cool people.

I forgot to invite you to the D&D Open Championship when I stopped by. You could have fought Orcus! If you made it through to Sunday morning. You should try to get in next year. It'll be fun (and maybe I'll be your DM!)

My mother has hummingbird feeders hanging off the overhang of the back screened porch. If you're just sitting out there, quiet like, they come zipping in, sounding like giant bees, and feed, then fly out.
If the one female doesn't DIVEBOMB them for going near HER feeder...
singing fun fun fun
Yesterday, I got an e-mail from John Scalzi, reminding me that my Unicorn Pegasus Kitten fanfic is due on Saturday ... I'm going to skip the part about how I began to hyperventilate at the thought of actually turning something in to John that people are going to read and OH MY GOD THEY'RE ALL GO...
Do you know what kind of paint it was? Next time (If there's another section of brickwork painted over) go hot Home Depot, Lowes, or your local paint store first. There are far less painful ways to remove the paint from brick that are both cheap and non-toxic. Unless you're looking at some of the thicker lead-based paints. But I'm not really an expert on this (Just a wad of experience helping fix up family member's houses) so that may have been your only choice.
nobody can see in our holler tree
Tomorrow morning, I leave for Portland, where I'll spend an all-too-brief week working on Leverage. For those of you who don't know, I'm a recurring character on Leverage. I play a computer hacker called Cha0s, who is a nemesis to the Leverage team, but especially to Hardison. I first played th...
I STILL hand-draw maps. Not a big fan of the Dungeon Tiles (Though I do use them from time to time) and I have a nice battlemat and fast drawing skills from spending years as a draftsman.
Now, if you run for Paizo, you can get the flip mats and the mini-map cards, and you'll be set for ~90% of the Pathfinder maps. And Staples draws 1" square graph pads for around $20, so you can draw maps to your heart's content.

While walking through Comicon three or four years ago, I stopped to look at one of those booths that's filled with a hundred different T-shirts. Somewhere among the various superhero crests and clever nerd phrases and obscure sci-fi homages, I saw a fairly simple design: an Atari joystick, sitti...
I've been using both types. The "official" dice TSR sold had the numbers on the bottom (And even told you to read around the base for what you rolled) but Chessex printed them with the numbers on the points. So I guess it really doesn't matter.
