THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the dozen members & friends of Cornerstone Masonic Historical Society who participated in the "Monroe Clean Sweep" on April 26. At 8 AM we had bagels and coffee, picked up our green clean-up shirts and garbage bags with other Monroe volunteers and then reported to McGarrah's Stagecoach Inn Museum where we raked leaves, fertilized plants, cleaned up the kitchen and office, and cleaned out the basement rooms of 15 years of clutter. I mean it when I say that I hit the brakes to admire this building. it is the only house I have ever seen that has a simulated thatched roof…a cutting edge style to make the Tudor Revival cottages built in the early 1900’s look more like cottages…very sweet. I took this picture last fall on my way to an event that was a little out of the way from where I normally trek. Anyway, this style is one of my favorite revival styles at the turn of the century. Join us as we participate in the Monroe Clean-Sweep program to make our town and village a cleaner place to live and work. We begin, with other groups from Monroe, on Saturday, April 26 at 8 AM at St. Anastasia Church, Rt. 17M,for coffee and bagels, pick up a tee shirt and junk bags and proceed to clean up along Stage Rd and Maple St. Then we spruce up the grounds of McGarrah's Stagecoach Inn, do some cleaning inside, enjoy a hot dog lunch about 11 AM. SAFE launched “Say YES to Egypt” campaign three years ago in response to the frightening news about the looting and destruction of Egypt’s cultural heritage. Their goal was to raise awareness about the situation and show solidarity for the people in Egypt. The Cornerstone Masonic Historical Society is hosting the Wallkill River School of Art for a special Plein Air Workshop every Sunday in September, weather permitting. The teaching professional artists will be leading the workshops, and the painting featured above is from the executive director and teaching professional Shawn Dell Joyce. The first workshop was held on the Goosepond and was a great success. Next Sunday, September 8th, the Artist will be at McGarrah’s Inn on 300 Stage Road, and will be painting nearby historical buildings and sites. On August 27, 2013 our own David Roman, Keri Nygren and Claude Gillman gave a presentation that succeeded in the Village adopting a resolution to rescind their request to have the plane removed! On June 30, volunteers helped to install the first phase of the landscaping plan designed by Chad Wade, of LandArch Studios. Volunteers worked to plant Oak Leaf Hydrangeas and boxwoods across the front of the building to grace the newly renovated porch. Volunteers included Susan Roth, David and Linda Roman with their children Matthew and Nathanial, Greg MacLeod and his daughter Sarah, Robert Dingee, Paul Miller, John Ziegler, and David Panebianco.
