I found some adorable "green" crafts for Christmas so I thought I'd start a new post called "Going Green for Christmas". I love this cute little ornament made out of pistachio shells. Not only would it be fun to make, but delicious too. I think when I try to make this I'm going to fashion an owl out of it somehow. I'm thinking I can do it with pieces of felt for wings and eyes? I'll let you know how that goes. Otherwise, it still makes an adorable earth friendly ornament! Medium egg-shape foam, such as Styrofoam Hot-glue gun and... Continue reading

I can't tell you how excited I am to share this amazing Christmas album by Sufjan Stevens. I first heard it three years ago and Christmas wouldn't be the same without it. I adore him and I think he has amazing talent. Please go buy this album, it's a five disk set and you can get it on amazon for $19 which is crazy for all of this music! Here are just a few of the songs from this set that make my heart melt, in a good way. Continue reading

Christmas is only 40 days away. I know it sounds like 40 days is a lot, but we all know it will be on our doorstep before we know it. So here are a few things to help with your holiday wrapping. I love these hand made tags I found on Etsy. The first tags are just adorable. They are hand stamped by Low Fidelity and come pre strung on cute red and white bakers twine. A set of 12 is only $4! Next we have the 12 days of Christmas gift tag set by K is for Calligraphy. I... Continue reading

Today I am inspired by Houndstooth. Lucky for me, when I searched it on Etsy it came up with 1,607 products for me to choose from! These were some of my favorites, though I only made it through eight pages. First we have this adorable bow from Hopelessly Devoted which is attached to a little comb for easy placement in your hair. So cute. Next we have a fool proof plant made of fabric! I love the modern and fun look of this potted plant made by Jane Joss. I'm not a fan of silk plants, but I am now... Continue reading

I'm starting a "Thanksgiving Workshop" and for the next few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving I will be posting recipes, crafts and decorating ideas to help you with your holiday planning! I'm starting it off with this mouth watering recipe for "Pumpkin Whoopie Pies" from Martha Stewart. Don't they look amazing?! I actually used this picture to bribe some family members to join me for Thanksgiving down south, and it worked! The recipe is really easy and I can't wait to make them in a few weeks! I might have to test the recipe before Thanksgiving, that way I can... Continue reading

I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday! I found this Oversized Wool Wrap from artLab over on Etsy and as usual, I'm in love. It just looks so cozy and I love how you can wear it so many different ways! It's kind of rustic looking, but the ruffled fabric on the collar softens it. So pretty. I'm thinking this would be a staple in my fall/winter wardrobe. A long sleeve cotton shirt, pair of dark skinny jeans and my brown riding boots...oh happiness. Continue reading

I've got the sweet tooth again, so I popped over to Etsy and found some yummy treats. Let's start with that amazing caramel and chocolate covered apple. Yes, it's covered in caramel, then chocolate, then smothered in toffee bits. I'll take two please. Then we have these pumpkin truffles that I might have looked at a hundred times in the past month. I should probably just order some already! Anyways, they are made with gourmet bittersweet chocolate and filled with (real) pumpkin ganache. Ahh Yum. And last but not least these adorable "Gobble Pops" which are little cupcakes covered in... Continue reading

My new favorite song is "Swimming" by Florence + the Machine. She has a voice like no other and boy is it fun to sing with her in the car. Her voice sounds like it comes from the depths, and she has some seriously awesome lyrics. Please go read about her and listen to her songs at Florence + the Machine. I also love her because she has gorgeous red hair and I'm sure it's ahem...natural just like mine. Swimming by Florence + the Machine Continue reading

I am finding so many amazing things this week! When I saw these lace necklaces over on Etsy my heart started fluttering. They are so gorgeous. I love how delicate they are, but they make such a big impact. It's the perfect addition to your little black dress. And how pretty would this be at a holiday party? I can't wait to buy one. And they are very affordable too! They are made by White Owl on Etsy and sell for around $28. I guarantee you will get plenty of compliments wearing this unique piece. Continue reading

So since my last "Handmade Christmas" post I've had two more dreams about it being Christmas Eve, and I haven't bought any presents. So I guess I better post more of these! I found this over at Martha Stewart and I can't wait to make them. I think every gal loves an apron, and just think of all the different fabrics you could use to make one! What a nice gift. It seems very easy to make, even for beginner sewers! Sewing machine and thread Fabric Scissors 21-by-45-inch piece of eyelet Ruffle foot 2 1/2-yard piece of 2-inch-wide grosgrain ribbon... Hello! I found these gorgeous leg warmers on Etsy this morning and I am obsessed. I think they are amazing, and I love how structured they look. I also love them because you definitely will be the only one wearing them out, which is what I love about shopping on Etsy! So I'm thinking an adorable outfit would be either dark skinny jeans or black leggings with a sweater dress AND remember that amazing plaid coat from Anthropologie that I posted earlier?? That would be so fierce! (Yeah I went there) So stop by Ashes & Empires on Etsy and... Continue reading

I've been trying to decide what kind of plant to bring into my living room. I spent the spring and summer gardening outside, and always wanted to bring some of that greenery in the house. But I just wasn't finding anything to suit my fancy. Until I found these amazing terrariums on Etsy made by Wee Green Spot . I am in love with them. There are a few people selling Terarriums on Etsy, but these are my favorite because I love the little handmade lamb, and the little tea cup with a little tiny plant growing inside. So cute.... What a great way to spruce up an ordinary cupcake! These are great, especially for the cupcake decorating novice! Good morning! I love Saturday mornings. I get to sleep in, then move my laziness to the couch and flip on some HGTV for the next couple of hours! So I figured it was a perfect time to post about my new favorite song by Passion Pit called "Moths Wings". Oh I love this song. It's only so often that I run into a song that gives me that fuzzy feeling in my chest, and this is certainly one of them. I really love how this band started. In late 2007, Michael Angelakos (lead vocals/keyboard) had started "Passion Pit" as... Continue reading

I've had so many little projects going on lately, and the one that is taking up most of my "blogging" time is my new Etsy store Under the Oak. It features hand made party goods, and is mostly filled with these tissue paper poms shown above. I'm very excited about this new venture, and have already had two sales and have been featured on the front page of Etsy! So exciting. When I started this blog I thought it would be a piece of cake to post at least twice a day. Well, let me tell you I was wrong!... Continue reading

Over on Etsy I found these great rings made by Garnet Girl Designs and I can't stop looking at them! I think I've visited her shop once every day this week! I especially love the stacking rings. Such awesome colors, and I love more than anything that they are made by hand for you. I think the stacking set on the bottom right corner would be perfect for any fall outfit. Please go take a look! I keep wondering why I'm so hungry lately, and I'm starting to think it's probably because I spend hours looking at treats on Etsy! The reason I've been on a bit of a hiatus from the blog is because I just started an Etsy store, but more on that later! For now we must focus on the amazing treats shown above. Bliss Candies is the maker of these mouth watering goodies, and you can find them at her shop on Etsy for $17.95 Mmmm...what a steal. October "Nibbler Sampler" -3 fat Caramel Pumpkin Pie Candy Squares -1 Pumpkin Cake Cookie... Continue reading

My friend/boss (I'm a nanny) brought home this amazing baby sling (above right) and I am in love with it. The picture does it no justice. It has amazing detail and I can't wait until the new baby comes so I can wear it around like my new favorite article of clothing! It's from a shop called Serena and Lily which is full of the most amazing baby bedding I've ever seen. They also have many other spectacular items, so please go take a peek! Continue reading

One of my recurring nightmares is that all of a sudden it is Christmas Eve, and I haven't bought any gifts yet! I have this dream very often, so this year I am doing something about it! I am starting early, and in light of the economy I am trying to hand make a lot of my gifts. I found this amazing "Quick Quilt" from Martha Stewart that is so easy to make, and such a personal and cozy gift! I can't wait to make it...and I'm not going to! I will be prepared this year. Goodbye Christmas nightmares! Fabric... Continue reading
