Congrats!I've been reading the site for nearly 3 years now (creepy lurker for the first I confess!) and have always loved it,all the best for the SI gig!
P.S. Say hi to Boyfriend Jon for us ;)
Programming Alert: Major Label Debut.
And if I made a fool, if I made a fool, if I made a fool On the road, there's always this And if I'm sewn into submission I can still come home to this Man. The world is weird. And sometimes, it can surprise you. I've been hired by SI.com as a contributing blogger. This post has been, oddl...
SHE PRETTY.
Also she so either went abroad for schooling/went to an international school, she's got the rich Euro kid English accent down.
HOLY SHIT JELENA'S ENGLISH.
Hmmm. I think I'm officially a little bit in love with Jelena Ristic. And while we're on the subject (we're not really on the subject), what is up with the Serbs and their ability to rock the English language? It's so impressive.
I LOVED that SATC/Gossip Girl blog, also now I want a reporter to ask Fed about Chino at Montreal...

Oh to be a Maria Sharapova fan. Bojangles' agent should be fired. Have you not heard of Google? GOOGLE THAT SHIT. Ryan Harrison has some advice for Roger Federer, YOU GUYS. Steve Tignor on why Serena matters. Please back this up, Ernie. We need more Ernie like Walken needs cowbell. Blah ...
So when do we think Fed joins now?(Even though he's said he won't,but I want him to)
Bepa's surely a pretty great example of what happens when a player actually gets to control their Twitter account instead of their agent....:))))))
Tweet Responsibly
So Rafa has made good on his promise during Wimbledon to join the awesome heaven and hell that is THE TWITTERVERSE. Good news? Bad news? I genuinely don't know. Twitter has been a boon for fans, players, and organizations who choose to use it as a medium to show off their personalities. I...
Listen to JLS (clearly you're up on your Brit boyband knowledge)-She Makes Me Wanna, they've clearly followed the Jennifer Lopez rules of air travel :)
Tuesday Tunes: Marion Bartoli
Every Forty Deucer knows how much I love music. I'm not all that great about telling people what I'm thinking or what my mental or emotional state is at any given time, but if you ever want to know where I'm at, just look at what I'm listening to that month, that week, that day, that minute. I...
She could try hooking up with Isner,I'm sure he'd be more than willing...
I Kinda Always Knew I'd End Up Your Ex-Girlfriend...
Holly Sweeney, Rory's ex-girlfriend, with...an odd tweet. It's officially making me uncomfortable, you guys. I hope you know what you're doing, Caro.
*obligatory AWWWWWW*
I always like Maria so much more in her "real" life when she's normal and kind of awkward (I mean that as a compliment),instead of shiny-hair,impossibly gorgeous and glamorous "brand Maria Sharapova".
The Most Adorable Videos of Maria Sharapova You Will Ever See.
Everybody say "awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..." Thanks to The Double Bagel for the tip.
Well,Mirka did get preggers pretty soon after the whole Crazy Eyes episode last time,so there may be some correlation there...;)
GOAT vs. GORC. GULP.
I am just...so not looking forward to this. I just feel like this is destiny for Fed. It already hurts. Rafa took care of a very game Andy Murray on Friday. I'm proud of Andy. He chipped his tooth, he tore his ankle, and he's Andy Murray. He really could have just thrown in the towel ...
You go,Crazy Eyes(and er,bulging shorts)!

But there's no Serena,no Venus,no Kim and definitely no Jooostiine,THE WTA'S DEAD!!
Um no,seriously, you know it's an awesome list when even Marion gets to legitimately qualify as awesome. You go Mensa!
Quarter For Your Thoughts.
Here are your quarterfinal matchups for the ladies. Let's be real. This is pretty fucking badass: Let's cut some fuckin' bitches, you fuckin' bitches. (Pics: Getty, Reuters, AP)
Gotta be honest,I'm not sure there's much that would please me more than that last scenario (apart from the whole throwing yourself into the Seine ;)).And that's really nothing against Nole,as Rafa's said,it's more 'when' then 'if' he's going to get to no.1.
But yeah, those were pretty big dick moves from Fabio,it was apparent to just about everyone that he wasn't going to be able to play the next match...and the histrionics, ugh. What is it that RG brings out in him?!
And as for Nole losing momentum, nope I don't see it,if Fed gets through and keeps his standard up though I really do think he has a chance to win.
Sewage.
There came a point while I was watching Francesca drop that second set to JJ when I thought "I refuse to live in a world where Fabio Fognini goes deeper at Roland Garros than Fran. I REFUSE." But THIS FUCKING GUY. Did you know that in Italy they call him "Fogna", which means "sewage"? And ...
Not really an Ana fan (or hater for that matter),but jesus christ is Matt Cronin *actually* trying to make her cry? That's just sad to watch!
One Down. Three To Go.
Roland Garros has made me way emo. More on that in another post. But basically I'm so ridiculously sure that all my favorites will lose that I can't even muster up a reaction to Ana losing yesterday. I've gone completely numb. There was a time when Ana didn't lose first round matches at Sla...
I just assumed that the subtitles on everyone are there mainly for deaf viewers, rather than the ATP worrying that people won't understand Rafa or whatever...
Still think it's weird how low-key the coverage of the Nike exo was though, didn't there used to be a Nike Cup thing back in the 90's that was a semi-big deal and raised money for charity?
What, Gimel Couldn't Be Bothered To Shave?
Gimelstob's toolish 7 o'clock shadow was a distraction. As was the weird subtitling of Rafa, which actually didn't accurately subtitle what he was saying, which didn't need to be subtitled anyway because you can totally understand every word he's saying thankyouverymuch. But the foo...
Wow I wasn't expecting this rollercoaster ride when I opened up the comments!
The thing I find most confusing about the snide comments from certain members of the "tennis establishment" is that, especially considering the struggles that the tennis media is facing, surely they should be glad that there are people around who really care about the sport??
Bloggers like you and others clearly want to report on these events well (both with player access and mere practice court stalking ;)) ,and be able to provide a genuine insight into their inner workings. If there were a bunch of people getting credentials and repeatedly asking dickish or inane questions, then yeah, fair enough I'd understand why the veterans would be annoyed, but (from what I can tell) absolutely no one is doing that!Instead people are using the access to write even in an even better way about a sport they're passionate about...so where's the harm?Just because they're new or can never say they were courtside for Borg/McEnroe or whatever,it doesn't make their presence in the media room or their writing any less valid.
So yeah, basically, don't listen to them C Note :) And as someone else said, the hits you get from USA Today articles are something many of the "real" journos could only dream of!
Please. Don't Let the Facts Get In The Way of Your Journalisming.
So Petko's blowing up. We all know this. Yesterday she got the Pete Bodo treatment. Now, I know what a lot of you are thinking, but surprisingly, no, he did not describe her as being "strong like a Munich beer wench." I know. I was shocked, too. It was actually a very nice, positive take ...
Okay,I admit it,I laughed when I first saw this result because it was just so absurd, but after reading that?
Yeah feel totally sorry for him,he sounds like he has about a million different thoughts going through his head about how he should feel, how he should play etc and is at a total loss as to how to actually implement them.Eek.
No Answers.
So...Andy hasn't won a set of tennis in almost two months. He hasn't won a match since beating Daveed in the Australian Open semifinals in January, and he's 0-3 since Melbourne. For the second straight tournament he lost in straight sets to an American wildcard, this time to #118 and Ashley ...
LOVED IT.
For those who don't know it,Comic Relief (and the Red Nose Day event)have a pretty amazing history, founded by Richard Curtis (as in writer/director of Four Weddings,Notting Hill,Love Actually etc,guy basically guaranteed a knighthood)in the 80s and now a part of Brit pop culture, and all for ridiculously worthy causes :)
Also,if you haven't seen Outnumbered,YOU NEED TO.It's a show pretty much everyone I know is united in loving (a load of people are going to say they hate it now aren't they?),and kudos to Andy for getting involved again!
Equally, this needs to be seen http://www.youtube.com/user/BBC#p/u/1/NW12S4-KB1I
"Try and look more you. Like, emo."
Well done sketch for Red Nose Day, the British equivalent of Comic Relief, aka "Giggles for Charity". That kid rules. I wonder how much weed she smokes between takes.
Something about the Safin family inspires this reaction from on-court interviewers.

Dinara Safina, Ladies and Gentlemen. I Think You've Met Before.
Safina d. Stosur, 76 64. Nailed, Coconut. NAILED IT. Did anyone see this coming? Not just posting up a win over a top 5 player, but playing as well as she did? In between my moments of absolute disgust over Sam's level of play and my attempts to stave off depression, I was floor...
Even though he does those Armani ads and everything,I still feel weirdly corrupted by Rafa sex face. He's too innocent,I want to see him with Goofy and Mickey back at Disneyland again...
I LAUGHING FOREVER.
Ahem. 11 seconds. WHAT IS THAT FACE.
Pretty tenuous link to this, but I can't understand for a second the whole Charlie Sheen thing.
This is a man who has a repeated history of violence against women,is so wacked out that he loses his job and has his kids taken away from him by the police,in what way does he deserve any of the coverage and even glorification he's getting??Although luckily it seems like very few people are actually laughing *with* him...
So yep, well done Jelena et al,this is the type of winning that actually deserves praise!:)
Winning.
Dear Mr. Sheen: This is what *actual* winning looks like. Much love to Jelena Dokic for capturing her first title since 2003, beating Fran, Bojangles, and Lucie. That's a super-high-quality run and one that should make everyone sit up and take notice. Watch her get drawn as Ana's first r...
"And here I thought she knew her way around a cake."
I snorted at this,well done C Note.
Girl, Talk To Dinara About Cakes.
Pavs successfully defends her title in Monterrey by coming back after dropping the first set to beat the surging-yet-still-sputtering JJ, 26 62 63. She celebrated by eating this: And here I thought she knew her way around a cake. I was horribly mistaken. (Pic: AP)
Austin seems like the right choice, huge crowds virtually guaranteed with it being Andy's hometown,Rafa hopefully being there etc (and this tie definitely deserves to be a sell-out).
Only thing is that (same for San Antonio),surely Austin in July=pretty punishingly hot?I know these guys train for it and are all used to playing in Aussie heat, but don't know if it would make the USTA more tempted to play the tie indoors, instead of on grass like everyone seems to be saying?
Also, nice celebration Andy.I was surprised by how subdued the team were though, all weekend they (especially Courier) were ridiculously calm...
SXSW
The A-Rod clinched the tie over Chile and Spain clinched yesterday in doubles, which means the U.S. will host the Armada in the quarterfinals. So far, rumor has it that the USTA is considering Austin, San Antonio, and Albany (N.Y.). One of these things is not like the other. ZOMGHAVEITINAU...
If I had to make a list of 'tennis wishes',Nalby and Argentina finally getting to win Davis Cup would have to feature. Can't think of any other guy (who hasn't already won) who seems to want it more.
Air Quotes: This Guy.
"I can’t walk a single step. I thought I would be in better shape, but I have felt really bad since the first set. I could finish the match because this is Davis Cup. If it were a tournament from the tour, I would have retired in the second set. But here, I play for my country, with my people...
Well, her boobs are bigger and she seems really grumpy...
Okay seriously,I know it's just the way she's standing/the dress, but if you told me she was pregnant before I saw the photo and I didn't know who she was,I...wouldn't dispute that.
I'm a horrible person clearly, but was just the first thing I thought! Also, that would be the funniest explanation for the foot injury cover-up EVAH. ;)
And,*that's* the Greenday musical set??
Pic This: Let's Check In On Serena and See What She's Up To...
Alrighty then.
Wimbledon have pretty much said that players will be allowed to play in their country's colours, which yep, will be a bit weird!Same for all the sponsor signs etc, can't imagine it...
The Mascot Is Still Retarded Though.
"I'll play mixed for sure. I'd definitely play if Laura's up for it. I like mixed doubles. I don't think it should be at every tournament but at the major tournaments it's a good thing. It's at the Olympics, so I'd go for it." !!! I know it's over a year away, but I'm already so excited for t...
Sex Face.
Oh poor Bec...
Pic This: Okaaaaaaaaaaay...
I don't even know how a picture like this gets taken at a tennis match. I've sat here for 30 minutes running every scenario in my head and I'm really at a loss. WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? (Pic: AP)
