(This is a response from the article's author) It's true that some mailers let you change subject lines. And Vicky's right too that it's not always easy to tell that they let you do that.
What I want is something subtly different from changing the subject line. I actually prefer to keep the original subject line as it helps me remember which email is associated with which other email. And changing the subject line can cause confusion when replying.
What I want is a way to create a TITLE for the email. By default the title would be the same as the subject, but if the subject line is not helpful, then it could be different. That way I have an easy description I can use when I'm scanning through a list of emails without obliterating the subject line.
An email by any other name
When I file something in my file cabinet, I can call it what I like. Same when I file it in my address book. Or my hard disk. Or my recipe box. So why when I archive an email in Outlook or Gmail or Thunderbird or Yahoo am I stuck with whatever subject line the sender decided to slap on it? Ab...
