Well, I can't believe it's September - I know I sound like "old people", but summer seems to be slipping by waaay too fast ... and although I love autumn, I'm not too thrilled about what comes next. This is my day off though, so after I write this and finish the wash (ugh), I'm bringing out the pumpkins and fall garlands and decorating the house for the season. (I've already got my pumpkin scented candle going -- just to get me in the mood!) In my continuing effort to keep you up to date on all the needful things... Continue reading

Edyta Sitar from Laundry Basket Quilts has a new book out and we've got it!! Well, we did have copies when I left work on Friday - but even then they where going fast! But never fear, I've got two more orders of this wonderful book winding their way to us this week! Fifteen beautiful scrap quilts making it a snap to incorporate all your cottons and batiks into wonderful heirlooms ... Just makes you want to start a new quilt, doesn't it? Continue reading

I met with a gal yesterday about a marketing position with Country Sampler. Marketing is something I don't do well, I know this. After all, I'm a quilter and a Elementary Education major - not surprisingly, neither one came with a class on marketing ... big sigh. One of the things she said I should do is blog more often - it should be short and sweet, with just one or two topics. That way it doesn't seem to be should a chore and I'll blog more often. Of course, this isn't anything I didn't know (even without a marketing... Continue reading

Just when you thought there couldn't be anymore new Christmas projects ... I've got some more eye candy for you from the West Center store. (The Country Sampler elves were veerrry busy this summer!) First up is, "Tags of Christmas", a new pattern and kit for the holidays! You can't really tell the size from the picture, but when it's framed it measures about 6" x 24". We even have frames for it too! Pattern is just $9.50 and the kit is $31.98 and includes wool, fabric and five Valdani threads to complete the project. This cutie is called "Frosteez"... Well, I doubt if I'll get all our projects and displays into one blog post - the staff stitched a lot of really super quilts and projects, but I'll try and get a few in today and a few more later. First, let's make a stop at the Papillion shop. Although it's a little smaller than the West Center store, we've got it jammed packed with Christmas quilts, kits, patterns, and new books. Just look at this beauty, entitled "Good Tidings". It has a nice fresh look for Christmas, don't 'cha think? And here's a little closer shot of "Peppermint... Continue reading

If you frequent the West Center Store of Country Sampler, you know that Carol Avok has been the manager there for years - I don't know how many, but Carol has been with us since at least 2001. (I looked for a picture of Carol, but she's pretty elusive when it comes to the camera!) Anyway, Carol's last day is this Thursday. She's moving to Norfolk where her husband has a job with the local paper. We're going to miss her like crazy - she's always been the "go-to" person that helps keep the shop running smoothly (not to mention... Continue reading

I've had a couple of people email me asking when I was going to post some pictures and projects from our annual Country Sampler Christmas in July. But first, let me send out a big thank you to everybody who came out and saw us last weekend for the big event. The staff and I work so hard for months getting ready for the seasons - selecting fabric, sewing, cutting, kitting, and packaging; not to mention... Continue reading

I wanted to get ya some pictures of our wonderful Red and White Quilt Show - now showing at both stores! The pictures are in no particular order and I'm not going to do a running commentary on each photo - but it's great eye candy for your little quiltin' heart! (Oh, and sorry for the ceiling lights in a lot of these pics. I tried to turn them off and shoot in the dark with a flash, but that didn't work either. Big sigh.) I kept the ironing board in this picture - I thought it just added a... Continue reading

Did you have a good Mother's Day?? We went out for brunch with the family. We've suddenly become big brunch people, but I'm not complaining - I love brunch. It's great to combine two meals into one and have somebody else do the cooking! I was really impressed by the salad table - just look at these beautiful creations from Crave Restaurant in Midtown .... Fun, huh? Who knew you could do so much with a watermelon?? Don't forget we've got the Red and White Trunk Show going on now at both stores! Our customers (and friends!) have turned in... Continue reading

Okay ... I admit this has nothing to do with quilting, or the shops, or me ... but I found this today and I just had to share it with you. It's one of those "Who Are They Now" things and reminds me of all those awful pictures they use to take during grade school and junior high. You know the ones. The ones you stuffed into your back pack after homeroom and told people your pictures didn't come or that you have to wait for yours for another 6 weeks 'cause the picture factory had a fire just as... I think we can all use a little inspiration to get us going on a Monday, don't cha think? And what better way than to show you a beautiful quilt and a cool notion that maybe you haven't heard of yet! This beauty of a quilt was designed by Laundry Basket Quilts and stitched by our very talented, Ann Lage, at the Papillion shop. (I think Ann is working her way through every quilt that Edyta has ever made!) And, just let me say ... the pictures just don't do it justice! This is "Reaching Out" ... A little piecing... It's finally beginning to feel like spring here in the Midwest, so I thought I'd give ya a little peek of the West Center store as you walk in the door .... Oh, and just a heads-up. I know I probably don't have to tell you but we'll be closed Easter Sunday to enjoy the day with our families. My family and I are going out for Easter brunch and baby Charlotte will get to see the Easter Bunny for the first time. I can't wait!! :) Continue reading

If you've been in the shops and picked up the spring newsletter, you've probably read that we have a new block of the month -- and it starts next week!! This is "Sunday Ride" isn't it gor-ge-ous??!! It measures 68" by 86" and it's a wonderful spring and summer quilt. Ann Lage made both of our models and she did a fantastic job!! The original quilt (and ours) was stitched using the fusible applique method with a small machine buttonhole stitch, but you can use the applique technique of your choice. Seeww, here's the skinny in a nutshell -- "Sunday... Continue reading

I finally got time to add a few of our most current quilt kits to our website this week. They come and go pretty quickly, so be sure and check these beauties out! "Triple Treat" is the first up! This quilt is from the Happy Hour book and is easy to make and such a happy quilt! (72 1/2" by 87") From the Papillion shop, this great quilt called "In the Woods". The kit includes the pattern and kit, but you can buy just the pattern too! Quilt measures 55" x 55". This is "Scrappy Nines", from one of our... Continue reading

I finally got my quilt done to help announce the Country Sampler Red and White Quilt Show here at both the shops in May, and it's in a little display Carol and I put together by the back cutting table ... Mine is the primarily red quilt on the left hand side .... It's called "Croquet" and it's from this great book by Betsy Chutchian... (I love this book, by the way.) The original quilt was done in kind of muslin color for the chain and then the main fabric was a kind of soft cheddar color. Luckily, the design... Continue reading

Have you started yours yet? Quilts are due into either one of the two shops on April 21st through the 30th, so you need to get hopping on that quilt! The good news is that it doesn't have to be a king size Baltimore Album quilt (like that would ever get done at my... Continue reading
