I found a new love in the quilting world - it's Aurifil’s Monofilament Invisible Thread, and it stitches like a dream. For years I've avoided invisible thread. It was never really invisible and seemed to always have too much shine for my liking. In addition, it was often difficult to use in some sewing machines - they just didn't seem to like it whether it was just in the top or, God forbid, you tried to put it in the bobbin. It was often too thick, too nylon-y, and reminded me of my Dad's fishing line. But not any more!!... Continue reading

We've got a bus trip planned, Edith, and you're going to want to join us!! Eight shops have joined together to create a two day quiltin' bus trip including shops in Nebraska (us!), Iowa, and Missouri. The cost is more than reasonable for two day and we're going to have seewww much fun! You can sign up at either store, although the bus leaves from the Papillion shop this time. Think of it kinda like summer camp for the kiddos, except it's fall and the girls are going shopping! What could be better??! Sign up soon, seats are limited!! Continue reading

I've got more photos for you today! This time it's the Papillion shop and all their gor-ge-ous quilts! No, really. The shop is full of inspiration and I was awed when I went and checked it all out … the girls really outdid themselves. Seewww, how about a little fall and Halloween eye candy?? Here's the double bed, decked out for fall. Rich fall colors and a design that would look great on a bed, tossed on the couch, or hanging on the wall... And behind it is this beauty. The photo is a little funky as far as color,... Continue reading

First, let me give a belated but heartful thank you to everyone who stopped by the shops last Saturday and made our Christmas in August a big success! It was so great to see so many smiling, quiltin' faces! But I know that not everybody who reads the old Country Sampler blog has a chance to visit us, so how about a little tour? I thought we'd start with Country Sampler West Center and our autumn and Halloween display. So let's begin! First up is a couple of pics as you walk in the door ... I got this fun... Continue reading

Two important notes today. First, we will be closed on Saturday, July 4th, for Independence Day, but we'll be open on Sunday, July 5th. Secondly, we've got a Row by Row winner at the Papillion shop. Amy DeFazio, brought her finished quilt into the shop and it's a beauty!! Amy used eight of the Row by Row kits (Can you see the Omaha row at the top and the Papillion snowman row at the bottom?) and several license plates too. And, for that beautiful quilt and for being the first one to bring it into the Papillion shop - she... Continue reading

Just a quick note to let you know the West Center shop has Lori Holt's newest book, Farm Girl Vintage, back in stock -- Hooray!! This is a fabulous new book, probably the "hottest" book of the year and really hard to get ahold of since it was published a few months ago. Farm Girl Vintage contains 14 different projects including ten quilts, two table runners, a table topper and a potholder. The crowning glory of Lori's book is the Farm Girl Sampler quilt on the cover, which is made with the 45 colorful sampler blocks, in 6" and 12"... Continue reading

It's going to be a great summer and we've been working hard to getting ready for the fun!! One of the things we've been working on is the upcoming Row by Row Experience, beginning June 21st. Ann and I designed our rows for each shop and we hope you like 'em - we sure do! Now, the pictures came out a little dark, but you'll get the idea. This is West Center's row, featuring medium to dark squares of blue batiks for the background, with creamy snowflakes floating across the top. And, because they're batiks and won't fray, you can... First, let me thank all of you who have put Country Sampler gift certificates on your Mother's Day list. It's so fun to meet your husbands, sons, daughters, and, sometimes, grand children! We had this young guy come into the West Center store and he looked kinda lost (the young guys usually do), but he bought his mom a $100.00 gift certificate -- that son rocks, huh??! I personally love gift certificates - it's like having free money, and when you've got free money to spend at the quilt shop - it's even better!! And while we're talking, I want... Continue reading

We have sooo many wonderful new fabrics in the shops, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Below is a beautiful fabric line called, Ambleside, from Moda ... Classic & fresh at the same time, with colors & prints that reflect the crisp breath of spring, Ambleside embraces an airy linen white, soft spring hues of duck egg blue, willow, blush, sunbeam yellow & is grounded with a cobblestone grey & a pop of rosy red ... ready to inspire you to create treasures for your home & those you love. (Okay, I didn't write that ... but... Continue reading

Boy-oh-boy, we've been busy girls this past week! We've got the Silent Auction up and running ... who knew we had so many retired models??! Each shop has close to 50 models in the auction - different stores, all different models up for bid. Stop by and get your number and let's start the bidding! But we've been working on other things too! I just received the proofs for our license plates for this summer's Row by Row Shop Hop. I think they look great! I talked about the Row by Row Experience in the spring newsletter, but if you're... Continue reading

Just a quick note to let you know that the spring edition of the long- awaited Country Sampler newsletter is out in the shops now! Stop by and pick one up soon - we've got tons of things going on this spring including a Silent Auction that starts on Saturday, March 14th. Here's the blurb from the newsletter (just in case you haven't soon by yet) ... It's been awhile since we've had a silent auction and it's amazing how many models we've accumulated in that time. Once again, they seem to multiply in the closets and cubbies here at... Continue reading

Well, this cold weather we've been having is certainly great quilting weather, don't 'cha think?? Have you been stitching up a storm? I've had a chance to finally get a little time to work on a couple of projects. At the West Center shop we got in a really neat line of fabric from Moda, called Mixology .... I knew I wanted to something with it - it was just so fresh and fun without being cutesy - and "Spice Drop" -seemed like just the pattern to showcase this line of fabric ... It's so easy and every once and... Continue reading

I hope everyone who joined us in the metro area's first ever Flurry Frenzy had a good time with the shop hop - I know we did. I didn't keep track of the number of fat quarters we handed out, but it was waaay over a hundred per shop. It was great to see some new faces too! So, here's the winners for our Country Sampler's $25.00 gift certificates ... Country Sampler West Center Elecia Busse Joni Gebhard Country Sampler Papillion Diana Southard Rose Underwood Congrats! Tap, tap.... Hello ... hello. Anybody out there?? I know it's been awhile since I last posted, but I have been busy ... or at least preoccupied with other things. I've had the flu twice - and yes, I got a flu shot. Dang! I went to Phoenix for several days where we went ballooning and rode a segway .... first time ever for both. I can take them off my bucket list now. :) Did I tell you my cousin broke her neck jumping from a burning balloon in New Mexico?? Yup. It did give me pause, but I... Continue reading

I thought it was about time to show you a few of the quilts and displays we have for February. It's cold outside, but it's toasty warm inside with all these beautiful quilts and projects! First up is the front display at the West Center shop. See the quilt on the right? It reminds me of the little heart candy that we all had for Valentine's Day - the ones with little messages on them, "Love You", "So Cool", and sentiments like that. We ran out of the kits for it last week, but we finally got more fabric and... Continue reading

We're excited to introduce our newest block of the month .... A Prairie Gathering, from Pam Buda and Marcus Brothers fabric. Isn't it lovely??! As you can see, A Prairie Gathering is a two color, Medallion style quilt. There are blocks in the quilt, of course, but it really isn't a traditional block-of-the-month. During the year long program, you will be making parts of the quilt from the center out. By the third month, the entire center medallion is complete. In a few more months, the flying geese border, and checkerboard border are complete, with each subsequent border being completed... Continue reading

I posted this on our Facebook page, but I know not everyone uses Facebook (and vice versa, not everybody reads blogs) ... so I'm going to post it again here. Several weeks ago, at the West Center shop, we had a lady come in and purchase binding fabric for this quilt ... Isn't it sweet? She stitched her children's (or grandchildren's) art work into the blocks and it is really a family treasure. Lots of work! The strange thing is that she left the quilt at the shop, clearly by mistake, but has never been back to claim it. We're... Continue reading
